Second playthrough, the rest of the crew is decided (cole and Dorian), I just want to know which one is more interesting and/or funny. A lot of people seem to dislike both characters and I'm not sure about them too, but I want to give a chance to at least one of them.
Vivienne vs Sera, opinions?

If you're dead set on only having one of them, I'd say Sera, but clearly I'm biased toward this character. But if combat is also a concern, that depends on a few things, like what class you are, since Vivienne's a pretty good support mage and has the Knight-Enchanter spec, whereas Sera's a good damage dealer with her Tempest spec and you can make some pretty good bows for her.

Dorian's and Sera's banter can be quite funny, but she definitely doesn't get along with Cole. Vivienne and Dorian have a lot of hate for one another and the only thing that they seem to agree on is that Solas is a hobo and that Antivans are inferior to Orlesians and Tevinters. Wonder how Josie feels about that?

Vivienne and Dorian are frenemies. They don't actually dislike each other; it's just more fun to spar with each other. They actually make that pretty clear in one of their banter options. You get a chance to talk to them about it and they both assure you that they don't dislike each other.

If anything, they probably consider each other the most "normal" people in the Inquisition.

If you want funny, go with Sera. If you want an ice queen, go with Vivienne.
I could write a thesis on their differences, but it's something you can figure out on your own within an hour of recruiting them.
I do, however, recommend taking both with you and listening to their banter while exploring the game world.

Kinda like I'm doing with Vivienne. I think she's the worst person in the game only ranking below the actual villains.
But for the sake of content, I'll bring her along next time around.

They're both awesome. You should get them both.
The banter they have with each other is pretty entertaining.

With all that said, I wasn't fond of Vivienne in a party with Cole (she was kinda mean). I never took Sera out with Cole but I did like some of her banter with Dorian.

I feel like Sera is less openly hostile to most other companions. Depending on my party, I have a hard time bringing Vivienne sometimes because she can be so needlessly hostile. I also tend to get irked by characters who always come out on top during banter. I'd be more forgiving if another character could one up her occasionally.
Sera and I don't agree at all, but she at least usually seems to be able to interact with most people without defaulting to mean.

Sera is far more humorous, she works well with Blackwall and Bull
Vivienne and Sera together makes fire works, heavy on the Fire part.

They're both great for banter, but they're actually really good together specifically. I would suggest postponing Cole and going with Dorian/Vivienne/Sera. Those three make for the most entertaining group of congenial one-upsmanship in the whole game, in my opinion.

Hmmm that's tough. I liked both of them, particularly having both in my party for some of the earlier story missions. I didn't know both of them added to some of the story mission cutscenes.

They're both really mean to Cole (Sera calls him "it"). I think Viv might actually be less mean to him, though. In one of their banters he reads her mind and says that he knows she cares about him but hides it because she thinks caring is a weakness.

Unless you have Solas/Cole in your team, plus Viv and that's about 1/3 in your team.

To be honest, i think the banters are pretty great in DAI. I never felt as if one follower produces really bad lines all the time. So I'd say just go with whichever you prefer otherwise,; for me it's Sera 100% of the time, because I feel like Vivienne falls more on the caricature side than the ice queen side she aspires for.

I didn't find Sera to be that hostile towards Solas. She responds negatively whenever he broaches the subject of her being an elf, but he's constantly doing it. You can tell Solas is frustrated in a lot of conversations, but it's much worse when it's with Vivienne, because she's clearly being condescending and he's breaking out a bit more sarcasm in return.

It's clear that she's meant to be the domineering personality in conversation, which is supposed to fit her Madame de Fer persona, but it can also feel like any potential for characters to be able to stand up for themselves in dialogue is neutered to maintain this, like Iron Bull. Solas seems to be the only one to really be able to do anything.

I'd go with Viv. She's just so fabulous. Especially when you take her along on quests where you see injustice done. For someone who claims to be a coldhearted player of the game she really does care for the little people (honestly her pro-circle speech is almost all about how the little people suffer during the rebellion). And she's got great banters and is crazy powerful.

Yeah, I understand why she is how she is and I think it fits her personality pretty well. It's just a problem I have with all such characters. I find Sten to be insufferable because no one ever gets the better of him in conversations (except once for Morrigan maybe, and that's short lived). I don't think I'll ever bring her and Bull along in the same party because I hate how his character reacts to her.
On the other hand, I need to bring Viv and Dorian soon so I can see a lighter side.
