Did this more than once. Surprisingly effective. Multi-Charge --> Mighty blow Mows down everything. Very fun. Also variants of 3x katari + 1 Control Kit (keeper SC, Ele FS, AW Pota, Lego CS, etc). Super fun. Super effective.

My ideal team: Any three others on my friends list. Private games FTW!

Charging in waves or simultaneously?

Waves. One pair charges while the other mighty blow. Entire Mob groups are decimated. If somehow not dead from the initial attack, they're confused, whittled and destroyed by the Katari Cavalry charging through them in pincer manuevers flanked from both direction.

[...] they're confused [...] by the Katari [...]

Your post seemed to have a lot of fluff in there, so I went ahead and cleaned it up for ya.

After all, the Katari himself even observes, "The Inquisition must be desperate, recruiting the way they do. Just look at us." Now we know the "us" is referring to the collective Katari.

Keeper, Templar, Archer, Archer.

Static Cage, Barrier, Horn, Blades, Ranged Death.

Bonus points if the Templar dies and adds an extra 50% damage to the archers.

Having both Legionnaire and Templar seems excessive to me.

Does "ideal" include opening treasure rooms?

If opening all rooms:

Templar/Reaver, Elementalist/Keeper, Archer, Archer - chokepoint Line in the Sand + Wall of Fire + Fire Mine turns the game into a shooting range for the pewpew.

If skipping some/all rooms:

4 x Archers will get it done, provided you all have great gear and and play with coordination (or just spike things down fast).

Otherwise, I would go with 1 Keeper, 3 Archers. Ele can be swapped in place of Keeper. Ironically enough, Ele in this case would be a more defensive setup focusing on CC with Fire Wall + Stonefist + Ice Mine, whereas the Keeper would be there for Static Cage discharge setup and Fade Stepping in to trigger Mana Surge for shatter priming.

One setup I think would be interesting would be 4 x Assassins (needs HoK, of course, for those stray ranged attacks you can't stealth out of in time).

4 x AW for PuGs, cuz if 1 dies, you still have 2 players too many.

General observations: No Legionnaire because ideally you don't need someone drawing aggro, since Barrier pr0. Also, Archers.

It makes me sad that there is no perfect world where a Legionnaire is no longer expected to be an agro sink.

I dream of a day to run around as a high willpower promoted Beast-gionnaire with Caliban or a Dwarven Crusher and one of the 5% damage per enemy shields. (I need one of those stupid shields!).

Lunge and Slash, Payback, Shield Bash and Walking Fortress, get dented a bit to get blood frenzy kicking and just have fun flying around smacking things pretty hard.

Do you mean Dwarven Proving Shield or Dirthamen's Wisdom? I have both and I'll trade you for a Superb HoK ring or Superb Belt of Health.

Haven't run that exact build yet, but my gut reaction question is, "With similar level gear and promotion stats, wouldn't ranged dps still greatly outdo him?"

For tanking in general, I think it's more a case of, "You are the best aggro manager/tank. Others are better than you at DPS. Stick to what you are best at." Which may end up with stale team compositions/roles, but is actually quite reasonable.

Absolutely! My Reaver also outclasses my Katari for damage (by a couple of Katari), but my Katari is still heaps of fun when I'm in a group where I'm not expected to be the main damage dealer.

Similarly, a Legionnaire built for a surprising amount of damage and mobility would be an absolute riot to play, a chain explosion from a good Lunge or Payback Crit with a Dwarven Crusher would be hilarious.

Stuff it, I'm trying Beast-gionnaire builds when I get home - the shield will have to come later :/

Again, yes. But I'm talking a perfect world where you don't "need" a Legionnaire for agro management because the team carves through everything too quick.

Then why bother with a Legionnaire...

See my response to the OP in post #13.

The very last line in my response is that aggro management is unnecessary.

If you're agreeing Legionnaire isn't top DPS, and you agree there's no need for a tank, then why would you include him in "your ideal damp team", as the topic says?

It has nothing to do with my ideal team.  You can see my take on that in post #11

My comments on the Legionnaire are simply in response to your observation that a Legionnaire is not required in an "ideal" team. I would like to just romp around with a DPS Lego, not because it would be ideal or efficient, but because it would be fun. Besides Lunge and Payback Strike still do actually hit really hard.

I'd like to see it, too. It's better than my idea of 4 Legos getting to the 4 corners of the room and taunting the enemy in turns so they run across to and fro.

The mob aggro AI really doesn't know what to do with secondary players intercepting. Their AI is very simplistic, set to only chase one target. You can body block a mob out to chase the targetted player. The mob won't attack you along the way, but consider you a pathfinding obstacle and ignore you until you taunt or do enough damage to out-aggro the previous target player. Even then won't change targets until it completes the current target animation. Usually the enemy is long dead.

If the AI has trouble with just 1-2 player targets, imagine the havoc four katari coming from different directions can have charging through. Confused is an accurate description when the AI mob can't properly adapt and deal with

The words should still read "Arcane" and "Warrior". If things are changing when you're alone, well...you've got bigger problems on your hand.
