She's loyal to Tevinter, but she only turned against him for basically selfish reasons.

Why would players want to recruit someone unrepentant about helping a monster conquer the world? She only turned on him becaus she realized it would be bad for her, and her nation.

It would almost be like recruiting an awakened darkspawn who doesn't regret trying to kill every living thing in Ferelden but turned on the horde because the Archdemon tried to eat him one time.

Is she unrepentant about *that*? As I see it, she got more than she bargained for. She thought Corypheus would restore Tevinter, rally people around a cause bigger than "how can I keep my rivals in check", while at the same time give the Imperium's underclass a role, make them significant instead of wasting their potential. I doubt "helping a monster to conquer the world" was on her agenda when she started out, and later she was stuck in her role.

Also, given her attitude towards slavery, I very much doubt she'd be ok with the Venatori's occasional excursions into blood sacrifice we hear about from a message here and there, and everything else they did can be summarized under "war against people who despise Tevinter". I think she can be excused for not caring a lot about her nation's enemies.

Like anyone who makes decisions that affect a lot of people, she couldn't get things done without getting her hands dirty. We act under the same constraints as the Inquisitor, even though there are roleplaying options that reinforce the delusion that you can avoid that. if you ask if whether what she did - as vaguely defined as that is - is acceptable, I can only reply "acceptable from which viewpoint"?

Having said that, I wouldn't want her as a companion, but rather an independent NPC we can ally with.

"In her Teacher, they saw a being possessed of not only immense power but also divine purpose; Calpernia had witnessed his wisdom and providence for herself already. With the Old Gods gone and the Maker silent, it would take a god’s strength to reshape this world. Calpernia knew that kind of strength was within his grasp."

It seems Calpernia was entirely on board with worshipping Corypheus.

Well, that's a bad mark on her character as far as I'm concerned. It appears everyone needs a god these days. Disappointing. I'd like to know the source of that info though. It may not be reliable. In fact, this sounds a bit like Venatori propaganda.

It's an excerpt from her short story.

And yet you'd likely condemn Gaspard for that mindset, Loghain, Markus any head of state would receive and does receive stigma in droves for that mentality and yet its excused for her?

Calpernia was the leader of the Venatori. I can't imagine how her perspective would have been much different than any other Venatori. They are Tevinter supremacists who believe the Imperium should reconquer the south in the name if their new god. But even if she didn't worship Corypheus (which I doubt) she's still a would be imperialist bent on conquering and subjugating the other peoples world. The Venatori consider the Imperium, as Erimond put it, "the rightful ruler of every piece of ground" in Thedas.

And that itself is a large part of why most of Tevinter's enemies despite it in the first place.

There's a reason that a Tevinter like Dorian finds the Venatori detestable.

Actually, I wouldn't. I don't condemn imperial aspirations, it's just not in my interest to support them as the Inquisitor.
I am, in fact, rather slow to morally condemn anyone, unless their "evil" is of the petty kind or they're the type who chooses the most unpleasant options first rather than last. I think moral outrage is a bad advisor, because it only lets you see a part of the picture. It's a ruler's job to think in terms of raison d'etat. Rulers who don't do that are bad rulers, every bit as bad as those who only use their positions to enrich themselves. Unfortunately, most people are blind to this reality.
