Did anyone else find the "story" when siding with the templars to be less satisfying, or even less urgent, as opposed to the mages?
Siding with the mages you're sent forward into time to literally see what would happen if you fail at your task in stopping Cory. Where as the templars, it just shows your reputation as Inquisitor being destroyed, and you being corrupted, as a demon has taken your identity.
I understand that both of these negative situations would ultimately result in the same outcome, but the mages made it seem SO much more of a serious, urgent, situation. I felt more "pumped" to beat the game siding with the mages.
Or maybe that's just me.
Dissatisfied with choosing Templars?

I would argue that any sense of urgency is wiped out when you come out of the time...hole and Alexius just goes 'oh well I give up' even though nobody besides you and Dorian had time pass and knew what happened. It was a bit odd. Both missions have their strong points. I personally found the templar one cooler because you are basically fighting against possession as the inquisitor. Also the demon's tricks were pretty neat, and Cole's introduction is a lot better and makes more sense. That said I still choose mages for my canon playthrough.

I'm actually very torn between these two. What bothers me is that I cannot ignore my compulsion to follow up on the plot introduced by Dorian in the Redcliffe Chantry, which is what makes going to Therinfall Redoubt difficult. But, on the other hand, I thought the actual Templar mission was very well done. While the demon could have been done better, I actually love its taunting, and Cole's introduction has far more depth to it. On top of that, I like Calpernia much more than Samson, but I enjoy Samson's connection to the previous game and to Cullen.

Wait, who repelled whatnow? With the Inquisitor sucked into a vortex he could very well have killed the people remaining and gotten away long enough for the rest of the Venatori to take Redcliffe over.

I found the Templar quest much more enjoyable. Although the Mage quest does have its good points (Dorian), the thought of not being able to judge Fiona and have her loiter her lazy butt around in Skyhold is just too much.

I just feel like siding with the Templars, and still having Red Templars as a big threat (yes I know it still applies and makes sense). And the lack of urgency leaving the time hole. Idk, overall I just think it's down the to writing being a little off. Seems like they wanted there to be more involved, more side-effects, but the outcome is more or less the same regardless of the side you choose.

No, I didn't even after meeting Dorian plus the things I found in Redcliff like the hut filled with tranquil skulls didn't incline me to want to deal with the mages further without Templars even if that meant I lost them. Also my Inquisitors have all been of the view that filling a unknown magic you don't understand with even more magic as being a good idea.
Besides I enjoyed finding out what was wrong with the Templars and it make the red Templars more shocking. Seeing Templars trying to get thru to people who were their friends, comrades in arms attacking them and being forced to defend themselves. I also found the envy demon to be one the most disturbing demons I have ever seen in any series both visually and its very concept of what it does. I am also a sucker for a redemption story which is what the Templar storyline and its war table missions are.

Alexius managed to beat a hall full of Inquisition soldiers, plus two companions and Leliana, all by himself?

Story wise, I actually like them both. I am partial to mages, but both stories are interesting and I liked Barris.
I have a human mage and a Qunari rogue who have sided with the templars, One thinks the mages should be a part of the chantry and the templars can be a help instead of a threat.
Then I have an elven mage and elven rogue who sided with the mages, both feel the mages should be free and both really disliked the Lord Seeker and would not ask him for help at any price.
Have a human rogue and another mage planned, but I'm not sure what they will do.

I have the same reaction to it, the introduction to Mage side overshadows the Templar side.
I like the Templar side more and I only stick to Mage side because of Samson and his connection to the previous game and to Cullen. Also with Templars you get Barris and the noble guy, with mages you get ..... Fiona.

However!
Under Her Skin is dazzling compared to Before the Dawn, and in general Calpernia is a more interesting antagonist than Samson, IMO. For that reason, I prefer siding with the templars.

Why would the Venatori put him in control of the castle, why were the only people in the castle from the Inquisition those you brought with you? The story is just weird if he somehow managed to escape a room of armed individuals and an army and it is nonsensical if he repelled them.Wait, who repelled whatnow? With the Inquisitor sucked into a vortex he could very well have killed the people remaining and gotten away long enough for the rest of the Venatori to take Redcliffe over.

Promoting Barris was my favorite use of the throne. Doing so as a Mage, from the Enchanter throne, made it extra awesome.

I have only done the templar quest once. Story-wise, I think In Hushed Whispers is much more interesting as a mission. Dorian and Leliana were also great, and I got a cameo from Anora/Alistair.
Why King Alistair is part of only the Mage Quest is beyond me. He had been trained as a Templar before he was conscripted into the Wardens, so you think he'd have a little interest in finding out what is happening to the Templars.

The mages did commit treason against the crown and the royal army was sent to deal with it so its not really surprising that the king would be leading said army, monarchs generally do command their armies in battle in fantasy series and did in RL as well into early modern times.

My first time playing, I sided with the Templars, since I also did that in DA2 and I liked the outcome until I played again and sided with the Mages. I loved the future travel and my first meeting with Dorian in that version. Same with how I met Cole in the Fade. I liked that part of it more then meeting one of them at Haven, though Dorian's entrance is funny, but there's something more dangerous about seeing your ruined future and tortured companions, than seeing a statue of the Empress stabbed.

Barris died on me (if you are referring to me) so never really dealt with him. And I don't ride on the Fiona Hate Wagon so she doesn't bother me. In fact, I missed her presence in the library when I chose the templars. YMMV, I guess *shrugs*You would rather have Grand Failure Fiona over Awesome Epic Ser Barris?

This post reminds of of the thread where the OP asked if he should choose Celene or Gaspard and all the Gaspard supporters made their typical arguments as though they were fact and the OP essentially went "I don't really care about that" or "Why would I care or know about that?" Gaspard supporters getting owned made me LOL.
