It's pretty complicated story to tell in short, really. We only get a full picture of him in TME and he's really some f-ed up person. Like, really. Many people like him because he "fights good" and stuff (you know how it goes, bested Gaspard blah blah blah) and many detest him because he's self-hating elf-blooded racist who likes to slaughter elves and "peasants". Not to mention he f*cked up his duty and let that one demon loose.

I really doubt that's the kind of person the Inq needs as one of it's leaders.

Ah I see, my image of a knight in shiny armour is now crushed. Now I'm even more suspicious about what Celene wants with him.

Him and the entire OCW should've been bigger tbh lol

OCW? help me  here!

As for Cullen admit that is shame that he isn't simple companion instead...so much missed awesome banters...shame.

It is sort of shame, in a sense that I would want to interact with him more, especially post game where they cut all the interactions, whose silly idea was that anyway? But for  the  story purpose I feel that he fits well in his role, so I don't want anyone else as a Commander, especially since i don't know much about Michael.

And, btw, from what I read in here, I think you would be happier if Michael was a companion, rather than someone stuck behind a desk (even if that desk is very sturdy). Isn't it so? :)

Why, Celene has much in common with him actually.

Because Celene is very manipulative. From what I see in the game, Michael knows too many of her secrets, so from this point of view it makes sense for Celene to keep him close. But most importantly by recruiting him you can possibly give him access to your own secrets, which is another reason for Celene to want him.

I would be most happy that instead of Leliana we got someone else! I would be most happy that if there weren't so many special writer's snowflakes in this game and I would be most happy if they did characters as Celene,Gaspard,Briala and Michel properly in game because not everyone read book like me and few in here that is main reason why they should have been introduced to players who don't know them properly not "I'm Empress Celene do enjoy party we shall see each other later we won't talk much at all also I might end up dead without you having any f*cking clue anything about me because not my fault if you didn't read 'Masked Empire' to learn about me" this is problem. So instead of focusing to make Leliana and Varric two new stars of DA:I who players do know they should have focused on introducing characters of 'Masked Empire' properly.

That is pretty accurate dear  ^_^

I think that's a reason Gaspard wants Michel if he's emperor. He wants resources to get one up on the inquisition and Leliana claims that Gaspard also informed Michel of his proposal which results in two things: the Inquisition lets Michel go and he spills Inquisition secrets or they keep Michel who knows that he is being refused the chance to regain his honor and would spy on the Inquisition for Gaspard.

I'm also very curious about Fairbanks. The whole Orlesian Civil War left bad taste in my mouth, all those soldier sitting there and saying "I don't want to sit and wait for my death" was very grim and depressing.

People are also apt to forget that, particularly if Hawke supported the mages and therefore left Kirkwall straight away, the city was in absolute chaos in the aftermath of Anders' bomb and Meredith's action.     It would seem that Cullen helped prevent its slip into anarchy and tried to keep order in the months that followed.   Even if Hawke had stayed around for a while, his assistance was probably still needed to keep things under control.

What the Inquisition needed at the beginning was someone whom the soldiers could respect and would knew about martial training.    Also someone who was trustworthy and could be relied on to do their duty.    As an advisor he was a good alternative to Josephine's cautious diplomacy and Lelianna's sly methods.   Sometimes his no nonsense, cut to the chase, attitude was needed to resolve a particular situation.      I have to admit that I had never been a big fan of Cullen before DAI but my respect for him and liking for him as a character has increased greatly over the course of the game.

As for Michel he is a good fighter but has in fact never commanded men, having spent much of his time as body guard to Empress Celene.    He is not very astute, having been tricked by a number of people in Masked Empire besides the demon.     He also has an odd sense of honour since one would assume he had made a vow to guard and serve Celene and yet allowed this to be superseded by a personal promise to Briala.    I like Michel and was happy to recruit him to the Inquisition.   First play through I took Cullen's advice and used him to help train the troops, which apparently he was very good with.    May be in time he could make second in command to Cullen but I'd only replace Cullen if he could no longer do the job.

This just proves...

..Ser Michel is another story especially if you read 'Masked Empire' then you know what kind hell of a advisor someone as him would make that you wouldn't need any other advisor besides him!

...what I said lol

Gaspard isn't particularly secretive and only works against the Inquisition if you tick him off enough (much like Celene). There's nothing to suggest that he'd exploit Michel like that, especially since he's firmly opposed to playing the Game. Honestly, I think that all the major characters from The Masked Empire should have shown up more frequently in-game.

Ah, so that's how it plays out with Gaspard. All this make me one very paranoid inquisitor :P . Now I'm thinking whenever it is good idea to recruit him at all, since I do let Gaspard live. The whole mirror thing might not worth it, unless Leliana somehow manages to outsmart them all.

It's best not to mistake a certain poster's anti-Gaspard conspiracy theories as canon lore. Michel isn't a liability and makes for a great ally for the Inquisition.

Eh, you can send him back filled with misinformation anyway. That's not to mention that depending on your choices, it's better for Celene not to anger the Inq really, otherwise... Bye throne. And the head.

This is my point!

Not everyone read 'Masked Empire' and there are many new players who never even played DA and yet characters as these are just shown as "Hi.Do mission.Bie!" it is like game is screaming in your face "Read 'Masked Empire' if you wish to know who they are not our job." this is what frustrates me in here. Not everyone knew about whole Briala and Celene thing, not everyone knew how Celene burned entire alienage to cover her affair, not everyone knows that Ser Michel is elf-blooded basterd and not everyone even knows who the f*ck Gaspard is. And best part is that they are all amazing characters and people didn't get chance to meet them properly because they never read book and because game didn't bothered introducing them at all to these people!

Hmm, yes that's true, well this gives me the opportunity to re-evaluate some of the decisions.

Nothing. I find them very alluring, especially when they're genuine like in this game.

I like French accent,I wish I had French accent option instead of American/British. This is why I don't get where is problem with it, I recall one girl who studied in same collage as me that was from Russia saying she finds our British way of talking funny because we both sound and look like when we speak as lightning hit us in our a$$ so we speak that way lol

That comparison though...I remember standing in front of mirror for hours and speaking to my reflection to see do I really look as if lightning has hit me in my a$$ xD

Michel was too busy being the bodyguard of Empress Celene, while Cullen was in Kirkwall where he could be recruited by Cassandra.

Michel was busy being the worst bodyguard ever for Celene. Which I suppose is ok, with

Spoiler

Eh, you could apply that logic to pretty much anything no matter how well written it happens to be. Sometimes people do stupid things, sometimes fictional characters do stupid things. I like that since flaws are interesting. Look at the likes of Ned Stark in Game of Thrones - some of the decisions he make are pretty stupid but it makes sense and contributes a lot to the overall story through ripple effects.
