Adept Discussion

So, what is the general community consensus on adepts? Are there any other really really fun ones, that are a bit unorthodox like the drell adept? I've never owned or played the single player DLC's, so I have no idea what all the weird new powers are.
Also, unrelated: besides reassigning skill points, what is the purpose to promoting classes?

First off welcome, if you can handle sarcasm you can learn a lot here. Secondly, every character in the game is fun and can be used on all difficulties. Promoting only ups your N7 rank and allows you to complete the N7 Mastery challenge. Go to n7hq.masseffect.com to view your manifest and challenges. I'd highly recommend looking into the ME3 MP Resourse Library as if contains a lot of useful information and will answer a lot of the question you undoubtedly have.

I really like the Collector adept also, he's an ultra rare kit though so it takes some time to unlock him. Adepts in general are great starting kits as they can do good damage from biotic explosions so a bit less weapon depandant than many others.
Promoting gives a small bonus to the war assets in SP, but is mainly an epeen meter

The last question is easily answered, and is: nothing else, apart from changing the pixels displayed next to the N7 logo on your characters.
The other question is... A bit subjective, I guess.
Fun, they can all be fun, you'll have to find yourself what's more fun to you.
Effective... I guess the most effective ones are the Drell, the Fury and the Batarian.
Then there would be all the others... Volus apart, they're all pretty decent kits.

The Asari Adept and Asari Justicar are a lot of fun too, especially thanks to their heavy melee.
Only Adept I'm really not keen on is the Krogan Shaman, just doesn't work for me.

Why isn't the Volus any good? Isn't his heavy Melee a bubble shield, and his light Melee a tactical cloak that you can shoot during?

He just doesn't understand true power...

Yeah but that cloak doesn't give any bonus to damage, which is the main reason why the normal TC is considered a strong power. All it does is make it easier to survive.
You'll soon notice that people around here tend to judge things on how kill-efficient they are, more than how much they help you survive. That bias is a direct consequence of the ease with which players can finish games, when they're experienced enough. Finishing a game is very rarely a challenge, so people tend to judge things based on how quick you can do that. That is, alongside what's fun of course, but that's such a subjective thing that you can hardly make discussions such as this, in that regard.
Back to the volus, as far as killing speed goes, his powers are somewhat lackluster. Stasis is a good power, but not extremely so. It provides awesome CC and makes it easier to headshot things, yeah, but apart from that it's not a power that will make you very fast at killing things. Biotic Orbs is a detonator that you can use to detonate stasis, but neither of them has a bonus to BEs, which means your BEs are going to be rather weak. Furthermore, even if you have the ability to make 3/4 of them using only one CD-dependant power, after those you've gotta recast orbs, which has a tremndous cooldown, which will lock you out of BEs for a long time. Orbs are somewhat effective as debuffs, but their long animation lenght means that you're not gaining that much damage by using them before firing, compared to just firing more times. Last, shield boost provides no bonus for your killing efficiency, obviously.
So yeah, the Volus migth be a pretty good kits for a beginner trying to stay alive - but when it comes to actually kill stuff, it's one of the worst kits in the game.

Volus adept is good for running up in the enemies face and shooting it off with the Claymore.
Well, name me one kit that ain't good for that! ![]()

My favorite adepts are the two asari. They are both incredibly powerful, and best dodge in the game. Put them together and you've got yourself an effortless gold duo.

Honestly, the whole adept class is bad-ass (except for the Volus, obv), some of the funnest kits in the game. Its hard to even pick a favorite because they're all so awesome (again, except for the Volus). The Drell and the Slasher are probably my personal favorites, but the Collector and the Fury are two of the most unique and fun kits as well.

Infiltrators and Adepts are two of my least played... With one small exception... Asari Huntress Infiltrator, of course - Quite enjoyed being a Biotic Stealther who, unlike above description of the Volus, can kill things just fine - and blend of both worlds makes it interesting.
Fun is subjective. My real idea of fun in ME3-MP is rolling out my sexy Human Female Soldier, who doesn't even have grenades in her build (so that means she only has two buttons to worry about, one of which you don't even need to press), and just conc-spam-detonate all the things. That'd put some others to sleep - but for me it's "Ooooohhh, shiny!". Boom boom every 2seconds, or watching mooks and unshielded enemies being flung around like wet paper bags - /swoon.

All classes are treated equally. There is no such thing as a bad character.

Drelldept is indeed awesome. Since you say you love his movement speed and casting speed, I believe you will also love the N7 Fury. She's like a pinball that detonates biotic explosions with every collision.
Promotions give you extra war assets in the single player campaign.

Also, my load times are extremely long in this game. Does anyone know why? I just got kicked because I wouldn't load in. I could hear the game going on around me, but the game wouldn't load in. Sometimes, after a round, I'll get permanently stuck on "waiting for other players".

Quick question about warp: does the upgrade to it's Biotic Explosions apply to priming or only detonating?
Both.

1. Drell Adept/Fury. Both are fast and really fun.
2, Regular Human Adept. A real powerhouse and a good caster at all ranges with the most powerful biotic explosions available
3. Batarian Adept. Slower version of the Drell, with no dodge and warp is not as good at as reave for priming spaws. Better at killing armor though.
4. The rest are more dependent on the weapon. Especially the Prollector.

And what you describe is a known glitch, due to lolorigin.
