Bad:

- The triumphant combat theme by Sam Hulick sucks.

Really? Fair enough. I liked it as a tonal call-back to the Victory theme from ME1

"I was born in London".

Mwhaha

And that's why I didn't like the removal of Jack Wall. He did an excellent job in Mass Effect 1 and 2, but let's advertise Clint Mansell...

Ok, the music of ME3 wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I expected. I wish Jack Wall had done it too.

Actually, I think overall the ME3 soundtrack is the best of the trilogy, followed by ME1. ME2 has some great stuff too, but also a lot of throwaway. I just didn't like the Priority: Earth music choices.

I thought adding Clint to the mix was a good choice. I see the Mass Effect series representing every sci-fi property it could. It's as high level as 2001, and it's a bottom of the barrel as Roger Corman's Galaxy of Terror. It's the every science fiction, paying tribute to all of them. And having Clint and Buzz in the game was something I liked. However, Jack Hall, Drew K, and Christina Norman leaving before the final game finished really made some bad korma. They should've stuck around for the last chapter, before taking off. Even replacing Mordan's voice actor was a sign of bad karma.

I thought ME3 had the best soundtrack of the bunch, though with the ME series the soundtracks have always been consistently good. I didn't find that to be the case with the DA series, where really only DA:I had a soundtrack that was somewhat memorable.

Definitely agree with you the soundtracks with the ME series.  I just played the Suicide Mission tonight nuff said.  Not sure if I agree completely about DA though.  While not nearly as good as ME's soundtracks there a few good ones in the DA games.  I really like the Qunari theme from DA 2.

I like Priority Earth for the most part. I'm still not fond of the 'Take Back Erf' premise, and the reason the final battle takes place on Earth in the first place is kind of flimsy (Reapers carting the Citadel there for reasons). But I enjoy the mission itself quite a lot.

I somehow feel that I might have been missing out by always turning the music volume off in my games... lol.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. Imagine a movie without a soundtrack. Just doesn't feel right.

I have a hard time hearing dialogue. Usually if I leave the music on default it tends to drown out the dialogue and I have a harder time hearing whats going on. I already have to keep subtitles on to ensure I don't miss anything. Though to be fair I don't necessarily turn the music OFF... just down really low to the point that it might as well be off. It's a more of a personal flaw then it is anything against the music.

As many have said, it basically boils down to the fact that you collected war assests don't make a difference.

Do you side with the krogan or salarians? The quarians or the geth? Just pick either, it doesn't matter.

I don't think you're alone with that audio issue. Even with loud surround sound, I have a hard time hearing dialogue in games over the explosions, music, shooting, etc. It's like me understanding the story is a low priority compared to everything else. But I never had this issue with ME from what I can remember.

Yeah, you just pointed out, possibly, my biggest ME3 flaw. I just don't friggin care about Earth on a personal level and that intro just made me care extra less.

I guess I circumvent it by reading subtitles over listening to the audio. I miss some details in the action but I just prefer it that way.

The mission simply didn't have the "epic, final" feel to it. There were some parts that were pulse pounding, like the Thanix missiles, or the parts where the brutes burst through the buildings. But I just walked along, talked to some folks, and went along. Where were the resources I scrounged the galaxy for. I wanted to see asari warping building struts and collapsing buildings on Reapers, salarians with perfect killzone sniper zones and crazy-ass tech.

It felt like "a" somewhat long mission, not the last mission.

Like most of everyone else I feel the lack of any usable or even visible war assets was a massive kick in the groin. After collecting all that crap I would have loved to have seen at least something come from it. One Batarian ship perhaps? A cutscene of some Geth dishing out some righteous payback on the Reapers? Nope nadda and it still kinda irks me to this day.

But that is more or less my only problem with Priority Earth. The rest of it I thought was utterly sublime. The visuals. The action. The stakes. The FOB goodbyes. Harbinger's "OH %$!& WE'RE SO SCREWED!" appearance. It all felt genuine in that THIS IS IT kinda way. That this was the endgame. All or nothing. The end.

My fave part though is the second half of the Missile battery defense. Holy crap what an epic fight. It's not enough that there's swarms of Banshee, Brutes and god knows what else but a BLOODY REAPER DESTROYER WANTS IN ON THE FIGHT!!!!! Truly epic.

Hell I'll go right out and say it. I even like the "STEVEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! You sure?" moment. If only for the lolz XD

You know what else annoys me? That daft turret bit at the FOB. What was the point of that? It just breaks up the mood.

The dialogue did it for me, it was almost as bad as Shep talking to the defense committee in the prologue.

"I was born in London."

"rly?"

"STEEEEEEEEEVE"

"I'm ok."

"u sure?"

"Thanix missiles can do a ****-ton of damage."

We know a Thanix cannon is a copy of the reaper beam that shoots molten tungsten and uranium at relativistic speeds. So how is that used in a missile?

Then there's Anderson showing up in the Citadel completely unharmed with no explanation. And the surreal dialogue that happens there.

Not to mention not getting to see any war assets actually fighting. Does anything actually change those cut scenes? Even if you sabotage the cure with Wrex, and let the bomb on Tuchanka go off, you still have Krogan fighting in the cut scenes.

No Hanar/Volus/Rachni/Elcor/Batarian ships.

At no point in the trilogy do you get to see the Destiny Ascension fire it's gun, despite so many characters talking about how kewl it is.

Everyone apparently decided to stop using Thanix cannons for some reason, even the Normandy.

That's what popped in to my head first. I'm sure I'll think of more.

I believe it was put there for the other soldiers to see Shepard in action that will give them the extra boost of confidence when fighting the uglies. Even Major Coates says to Shepard, after arriving at the forward operating base, that they consider her/him a hero and that they fight even harder knowing Shepard is fighting as well. Otherwise I see no purpose in having the turret scene

If your ems is low enough, the reapers are causing a lot of damage to the fleets above Earth. Shepard will even make a comment about it. Even Hackett's ship takes damage as the Crucible is attached to the Citadel. If ems is below 1900, both squadmates are killed on the beam run

That has happened to me as well. I had 0 Krogan war assets and still had a few Krogan on Earth.

If you do sabotage the genophage with Wrex in charge, Primarch Victus will have a comment about Wrex

Yea, I got that bit of dialogue with Victus too, he mentions the bomb as well.

My only Krogan war assets were Aralakh company, and the kakliosaurs(all the Krogan died in the blast, but I still had the forty points from the kakliosaur fetch quest). I'm extremely disappointed that I didn't get to see unmounted kakliosaurs fighting husks. FIX IT BIOWARE!

But from experience it's pretty damn hard to get your EMS that low. Like the "everyone including Shepard dies" ending of ME2, it's damn near impossible for it to occur naturally. The only way to get it is to do it on purpose.

Not really, Depends on what was done during the playthrough. If galactic readiness is at 50%, TMS has to be at 3800 or below. A lot can be done to collect that much. Even if galactic readiness is at 100%, the player still can get his/her ems that low.

Yes I agree the player has to go out of his/her way to get everyone killed. It also depends on how many were recruited. The more that's recruited, the harder it becomes to kill them all especially if all are loyal. Even with all squadmates loyal, at least 6 can die depending on having upgrades and who does what

Sabotaging the cure with Wrex alive and not doing Tuchanka: Bomb mission has a heavy hit on war assets

True, the absolute minimum war assests you can have is around 1800 or so but that involves skipping all the DLC, avoiding most of the side missions and not talking to anyone. Thus you really have to go out of your way.

You pretty much described a typical playthrough for me. When I do a low ems run, I know exactly what I will do. When I want Shepard to breathe, I aim for 3200 ems without having to play any dlc or doing side missions. Its amzaing how many assets can be acquired by scanning the planets

My only real complaints are:

  • Getting killed in the shuttle (it's only happened once or twice but it's a pain and a half)
  • The massive difficulty spike while defending the missiles.

Honestly, the depressing feeling at the base was really nice because it made you realize just how bleak the situation was.  And the goodbyes were all really touching.  A visualization of assets might've been nice but honestly wouldn't have really changed much for me.  It's just that compared to the rest of the game it's incredibly difficult.
