It was short as fok.

Virmire Assault and Suicide Mission blow it out of the water in both complexity and scale. Despite PE being the final battle.

Priority London gives this overly dark tone that is inconsistent with ME series for me.

Priority London is all about London, and only London. Priority Earth should be about breaking the reapers' entrenchments down one by one accross several places on Earth, then pooling resources in London.

No boss fight or unique battles of any sort. You feel like an unimportant grunt fighting a bunch of mooks. Multiplayer has more epic moments.

Forced turret sections and that stupid Marauder Shields moment...

TIM being character-assassinated harder than Kai Leng and Ash combined.

I was born in London.

I was born in London.

Really?

SHEPARD, I WAS BORN IN LO-OMG M92 Cain! It can kill a reaper disguised as a slow shooting defense cannon that a shitty Alliance pilot couldn't dodge!

The song sucked, aside from when your "thanix missiles" hit the reaper mook.

No battles with Capitol ships.

Silent Harbinger.

Careless Harbinger.

Ragequitting Harbinger.

Precursor to one of the most nonsensical and logic defying cutscenes/endings/whateverdafoqs in gaming history.

I was born in London?

I wanted it to be like the suicide mission, where you assign all of these assets a specific job and the success of the mission depends on that. For instance, you have to decide whether the Geth fleet acts as a rear guard and protects the crucible or if they go on the offensive and try to draw Reaper fire away from it, that sort of thing. We just didn't get to see how our assets effected the battle. My favorite parts, besides the obvious choice of crew interactions, were the entirely too small glimpses of other soldiers fighting the reapers. However, whoever decided to have everyone use a bunch of small arms against a reaper was a moron.

I also didn't like that Hackett gave the speech to the fleets. I felt it should have been Shepard. In fact Shepard should have been charge of the entire operation. But maybe that's just me.

Dislike: The camera shaking every time I tried to aim a weapon comes in an easy first for me.  After all. Why design when you can just cheat? I hated it. Perhaps it was made to numb the hands of the controller crowd, but all it did for me was tick me off.

Like: I guess I like that the endless cut scenes finally ended.

What do you mean, camera shakes every time you aim a weapon? The Hades Cannon shakes have fixed intervals and you can aim your weapon between shots without the screen shacking. Video

I must have been one of the few that enjoyed having Harbinger talk smack during ME2.  I think my least favorite part is the quiet.  It just didn't feel as epic to me without Harby mocking me the whole way.  That would have almost made up for a lack of a real boss fight.  Some banshees, brutes, and other assorted Reaper mutations while dodging a laser beam should never constitute a final boss fight.   <_<

I liked it too.

I think it's purposeful though.. I don't think they want to remind people what the Reapers really think of organics. They're trying to garner at least a little sympathy for them in this game.

Harbinger's talk in Mass Effect 2 is one of my least favorite things in the entire trilogy. People complained about Kai Leng's letter as being a petty childish insult. Harbinger has worse lines and he spouts them every 1-2 seconds -_- It is especially noticeable when you don't play a super optimized Infiltrator with a Widow who kills the thing before it even has a chance to talk. And the whole idea of a Reaper trolling Shepard is, well, dumb IMO.

I like it because he's just turning Shepard's words around.

"You're just a machine. And machines can be broken."

Just replace "machine" with vermin and bacteria. The two sides oppose each other with utter contempt, and only view each other as "material goods".

It's complete war.... while ME3 tries to say it doesn't have to be war anymore... if you want. So avoiding Harbinger is calculated on their part, I think.

You're not the only one. I like Harbinger.

I enjoyed the conversation with him in the arrival dlc.

Need to remake ME3 and have Harbinger in a bigger role.

Thing is, do you waste time arguing with a bacteria? The Reapers were presented as uber-powerful entities who don't care about entire species, not to mention single individuals. And then a Reaper goes to specifically troll Shepard, through two intermediaries, I might add. The only reason for this is because "if we lose Shepard, humanity might well follow" -_-

It's because humans are a specific kind of bacteria that is the most useful to them. He wants Shepard to know this... to give in and get the fight over with.

Like look at his preferences to squadmates.

“Quarian; considered due to cybernetic augmentation, weakened immune system too debilitating.”

“Drell; useless, insufficient numbers.”

“Human; viable possibility, aggression factor useful if controlled.”

“Asari; reliance upon alien species for reproduction shows genetic weakness.”

“Salarian; insufficient lifespan, fragile genetic structure.”

“Human; viable possibility, impressive genetic malleability.”

“Geth; an annoyance, limited utility.”

“Human; viable possibility, impressive technical potential.”

“Human; viable possibility, if emotional drives are subjugated.”

“Human; viable possibility, great biotic potential.”

“Krogan; sterilised race, potential wasted.”

“Turian; you are considered...too primitive.”

That's the thing, Shepard is just one human, one bacteria. Irrelevant in the large scheme of things. But the game presents him as special, someone that even Reapers acknowledge as a threat. Which should not be the case.

I disagree here.  They noticed this bacteria when she helped kill Sovereign, and know about it due to the heretics that were hooked up to Reapers.  Through the geth's eyes and through their agent (Saren,) they watched this annoyance derail all of their plans and helped engineer the destruction of Sovereign.  That's why she stands out.

Even in our world, if it's a particular good or bad type of bacteria, virus strain or disease is resilient enough, it has it's own name (think Lou Gehrig's Disease.)  In this case, they named the specific strain of this "virus" Shepard, and the "virus" itself as humanity.   I picture it as being very easy to narrow down what "strain" of the virus was causing the highest morality rate.

Holy crap, I didn't know there was so many diseases named after people.  http://en.wikipedia...._named_diseases

It's not just Shepard though. It's all humans... unlike the Protheans (proxies), we're fit for some other plan (Reapers/ascension).

Some humans are more valuable than others, of course. Shepard the biggest one. If you bring Jack to the Shadow Broker mission though, he'll say she will net almost as much cash as Shepard for the Collectors.

I can see where are you coming from but still, you do not waste time trying to convince that particular strain to stop its actions. You find a cure or, in Reapers' case, purge that strain from existence. And considering that the only thing Shepard does is to delay their inevitable arrival, convincing him to stop his actions is even less important.

You can't create a Reaper just from Shepard. No different than making spaghetti with only pasta. She/He's just the tip of the spear.

Well, considering that the very noise the Reaper makes is supposed to inspire terror as well as indoctrination (over long term exposure,) his attempts at demoralization could be taken as a method of fighting the "infection."  Fear, paranoia and brain washing are apart of the Reaper's MO as much as physical weapons or living weapons like the Collectors.  If anything, I'd dare argue that those factors are even more useful in dealing with the lesser species than any sort of outright attack.  Why shouldn't they try it on Shep as well as throwing their army at him/her?  It's worked for around a billion years or so.  The Reapers aren't known for their creativity, so if it worked all those previous cycles, why not now?

I refuse to believe that Shepard was the first to cause the Reapers trouble, just the first that had gotten that far.

I don't think that Shep would have been made into Reaper Goo.  From the way the games as well as the EU put it, they had something special in mind for him/her.  They probably make some sort of super solider version of a Collector out of Shep.  At least that's my best guess.

I think they did get pretty creative though. They went for the "soft sell" with the Catalyst. :P

Harbinger was just counterproductive... but he/it is pushing for the same things at the end of the day.

I know that technically that the Catalyst was controlling the Reapers, but I don't think the Starbrat dictated their personality.   If they were truly the collective knowledge of an entire species, they probably had some personality traits that developed independently of the AI.  Harbinger was the first and well...yeah, he acts just like I picture Leviathan would they were able to achieve the status of apex again.  An arrogant SOB with far too much power.

My thinking is that the Reapers are basically complex VIs. The two Prothean one's we meet were both created by scanning important Prothean figures which results in them having some semblance of personality. I think the Reapers are similar only they have the processed species flavoring the Reaper's personalities; otherwise though they are programmed to execute the Catalyst's orders.

The species that made all the Reapers other than Harbinger and Sovereign must have been dull as f*ck considering none of them have anything even resembling a personality

There's the one on Rannoch, who doesn't seem that different.

It's funny that they actually have conversations amongst themselves. "Shepard. Harbinger speaks of you."

I don't count the one on Rannoch. It's obvious both it and Shepard got hit in the head with the orbital strike considering their conversation.

Shep: "Why are you doing this?"

Reaper: "Coz you're chaos and we're order."

Shep: "Organics and synthetics don't have to fight each other!"

Tali: "What the hell, Shep? What does that have anything to do with the bloody Reapers?! We spent an entire f*cking game discovering they're not purely synthetic. That dialogue just sounds like heavy handed morality for a later plot point."

Reaper: "The battle for Rannoch disproves your assertion, Shepard."

Tali: "We just ended the f*cking war!"

Yes, but Shep just pulls out the whole "organics and synthetics don't have to fight each other" as though it's a natural part of their conversation. It isn't. There's no logical flow in the dialogue for why Shep should just pull out the organic-synthetic conflict when the Reaper is talking about order and chaos in a really vague context. I suspect that the only reason it sounds alright is that because this conversation is following Rannoch, but the Reaper makes absolutely no connection between chaos/order and organics/synthetics. The dialogue is ill-fitting and clumsily inserted, and this would be apparent if you moved this Reaper conversation to Tuchanka, for example.

Then the Reaper brings up the battle for Rannoch to disprove Shepard or something, even though half the reason the Geth keep fighting organics is the Reapers themselves.
