Which game is the best?

Mass Effect 1, you have that welcome to the galaxy feeling. You actually create your character, if you're a true fan and play games in sequence, and develop who he is there. You see Shepard become the Spectre, gain his friends, lose Kaidan/Ashley, and kill Saren while Soveriegn fell. There is also a huge amount of armor and weapons which makes it easy to have a unique character everytime! There are also PLENTY of side-quests, using the Mako to get to your destination is unique and although a bit frustrating it is fun driving that beast around.
But on the downside, the controls were bad, everyone was kinda narrow-minded, like Garrus "do things fast" Wrex "I don't like anyone" Liara "Protheans...sex maybe?" Kaidan "I have a headache cause of my implants" Ashley "Aliens are bad" and Tali "Pilgramage is the only thing that matters. Also Shepard has NO personality he's kinda boring. Just focused on...nothing really, just there. Plus this unfocused Shepard only gets 2 choices for romances per gender, and if you want to romance a future character and not the ones in this game, it's hard to keep them both from throwing themselves at you without being a dick.
Mass Effect 2 is a good game. It starts off with a bang...literally. Cerberus comes back and rebuilds you from scratch and sends you out to defeat the collectors. Story is great, meeting all these people is great, having so many followers including Tali and Garrus, having to work to gain loyalty by helping them out and even losing said loyalty by not being persuasive. The Suicide mission where you decide who does what which will dictate if someone is gonna die or not. Your choices have impact, and your not bound by the Alliance.
BUT the scanning for resources is kinda annoying, going from fighting a Thresher Maw to scrolling up and down a screen is crap. You can't ignore doing it too otherwise you get no upgrades and people could end up dying on the last mission. Also there are few returning faces. There's Anderson, rest of Mass Effect 1 squad mates, and Joker. The worst part is all your old squad mates refuse to come back. Ashley/Kaidan is understandable, you're with Cerberus! Wrex is busy with the Krogan Clan which is also understandable. But Liara? She's practically the Shadow Broker, which would be an excuse but she joins in Mass Effect 3! Also there's a huge lack of side-quests. If I recall I only remember ever doing 2 side-quests that had me go somewhere and actually fight. The rest are: talk to so and so, mission complete! Last thing is the lack of weapons. There's 3 assault rifles I could have. And only 2 of them fired consistently.
Mass Effect 3 wraps up the series and definitely has the best controls of the series! You can move swiftly from cover to cover without standing up and running. There are plenty of guns. I almost feel overwhelmed by the amount of guns I can use. It's difficult at first but I can easily customize armor after I buy enough apparel to have a choice. It's nice that Tali and Garrus came back again and same with Liara and Ashley/Kaidan this time. There are plenty of romances if you played the 2nd Mass Effect. Also EVERYONE makes an appearance! The War Asset system is also extremely unique. It's a great idea, yet poorly executed. This is also the only game with multiplayer, which gave it some fame. This is the first game where you actually start to feel attached to Shepard. He has a personality, which kinda started in Mass Effect 2, but you never grew close to him until 3. Whether this is because you know it's the end or he/she actually became lovable I don't know. Also the Citadel is a GREAT DLC!!! You actually get to see EVERYONE who's alive still and talk with them. Everyone is like an old friend and you feel at peace. It's the best DLC I've ever played! It's funny, heartwarming, and the party at the end is what makes me just wish I could stay in my apartment with my friends forever! It's sad seeing that I can't do anything so I have to go to the final mission, seeing as you can only invite Miranda to the party if you do the party right before the attack on Cerberus. I wish that that DLC never had to end. Great story all-in-all.
However this game has HUGE setbacks. The war asset is a good idea but making it where you almost need online to survive, without extended ending, is a low blow! This problem was somewhat fixed by the extended ending but not completely and so it still is a problem. The scanning also is annoying! You should have to fight for your war assets not just find a doctor and grab him and run. Now if you had to scan to find a doctor then fight to him or convince him to come that'd be fine. Also EVERYONE you once called comrade has abandoned you. I get that they have their own lives...but why not make it so they won't join you again? What cause is more honorable than fighting the Reapers. I'd rather have 20 characters to choose from than 7. Now I get that some people had to die...Mordin, Legion, and Thane...but we should have a memorial for ALL of them. You can have one for Thane in the Citadel DLC but it does no justice. Everyone knows that the ending of the game is bad. The lead up is fine but there's no final boss! The last hard fight I have is firing those missiles at the Reaper. The marauder is not a final boss. Now the decision is neat...but there's hardly ANY follow up on what happened. Oh you decided to kill the Reapers? All that you see is the army fleets are stuck in the system Sol because the Mass Relays broke. You never see Earth return to glory, do it from Joker's view of the funeral if Shepard died or have a cut scene of Shepard in the hospital a year later. Have him receive a medal for saving the universe. Have that party with your surviving friends and everyone gathers outside to see something interesting like the relays work again or citadel be repaired and have that final big kiss with your lover. Besides that though it is a great game! As is the rest of the Mass Effect games.
So which Mass Effect is YOUR favorite?

Mass Effect 2
Granted, questions like this are like asking what the best color is. You get a bunch of answers, but everyone knows its red.

Mass Effect 2
Why? Here's a couple of reasons

I like them all for different reasons.
ME1 had the most enjoyable story for me. But the gameplay is just atrocious for me after playing the other two.
ME2 had no story to speak of but was the funniest of them and a real feel-good game.
ME3 was (for me) the most emotinal of the games and sometimes came close to making me cry.
If I'd had to choose I' say ME3 though. Because of the emotion and it had the best gameplay. While the story wasn't the greatest ever it was good enough for my standards and overall the game left the best impression.

Mass Effect 2 was like an ongoing television series. The plot wasn't really the focus and it was straightforward... But the amount of world building and character-developments it introduced while constantly moving forward was amazing. There was just one surprise after another.
Mass Effect 3 was like a JJ Abrams movie in both look and style. As a result of added choreography, marketing decisions and action mode creating auto dialogue even for RPG players the player agency felt extremely limited and for all the things it did well, I came out only thinking about how much better the entire thing would've been if Bioware had just stick to their guns of ME2 and ME1.
I much prefer ME2 followed very closely by ME1. ME3 marked the beginning of an era that might ultimately kill Bioware unless they get off track at some point.

lol ME2 was by far the worst part imo, everything i did there felt so... unimportant, and the gunplay sucked. my favourite is ME1.

All 3 are some of my favorite games ever and my favorite franchise but ME3 is hands down my favorite. Can't beat that gameplay and character customization. Also i acually liked the auto dialogue for the most part, sure more options would've been nice(isn't it always?) and i think they nailed it in DA:I but conversations acually flowed naturally rather than beeing stilted and awkward, it also got the actors a chance to act.
Their preformance is by far the best and i'm pretty sure it's beacuse they got to record converstations rather isolated sentances.
It always bugged me in ME1 how you'd be in a dialogue with a character and then suddently veered off in a investigate option and went "WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT EDEN PRIME!!?" and the other character would just start reading from a wikipedia page.

My answer to this question is similar to my answer to which Star Wars movie is the best. I think Empire Strikes Back is superior to A New Hope, but the original movie will always be my favorite. It is responsible for instilling in me the love of the franchise. ME1 hooked me with the opening music and introduction - without that, ME2 and ME3 aren't even on my radar. Regarding mechanics and visuals, ME1 lacks compared to its successors, but to this day I still find myself watching the conversations with Sovereign and Vigil. My fondest memories aren't about combat (though I loved the suicide mission in ME2), they're about those "whoa!" moments when you become the first human Specter, find out who Sovereign is, learn about the Keepers from Vigil, etc

Man that renegade shepard is the best. My favourite game, I guess it has to be ME1, I loved it, still do. ME2 was great but that moment when I got out onto the Citadel in ME1, that moment when I landed on an alien planet and looked up those things made me love the game. ME2 was just icing on the cake.

Mass Effect 2 might be the best game, but ME3 presents the general MEU and story in its best light.

ME2 has a lot of great characters and content wrapped up with an excellent finale, but I'm not fond of the combat.
ME3 is so overtly cinematic and on rails I feel like I'm fighting for control of my experience. If they're going to continue making games that exert so much control over pacing, I hope they will add more opportunities to save the game, allow players greater latitude in triggering cutscenes, and implement pause and rewind on the cutscenes.

I greatly enjoyed all three games for different reasons, but for me, nothing compares to the humble beginnings. I felt like exactly what Shepard was—just a human, trying to make a difference. The story moved me in ways the other two didn't. But the other two had better gameplay and played up the characters a bit. Sometimes felt more like they were more conforming to a gimmick rather than natural character progression. I still enjoyed it! Just not as much as the endless hours of awkwardly approaching Kaidan and listening to him ramble forever and learning more about the ME world through another person's voice. There was something charming about that.
I do agree with you that Shepard felt a little more fleshed out in ME3. I loved the dream sequences and a nod to the fact that Shepard is just human. And they're handling themselves pretty damn well, all things considered.

Most "fun" and maybe even "best" if you ignore that the game is part of a trilogy == ME2
When you factor in ME2's failure to do much to advance the overall plot of the trilogy then the best overall game goes to ME1.

I am a bigger fan of ME3's campaign than the other two's. Add in the MP and it's no contest.

ME1- best for story but worst for gameplay
ME2- best for characters and overall quality, but worst for story
ME3- best for the emotional stuff, gameplay and level design, but worst for replayability [although I find it still very replayable].
2 is my personal favorite with 1 and 3 basically tied for second. The trilogy as a whole is my all time favorite game, and I usually treat it as one

ME2. It has the best mixture of action and exploration and it has the best last mission of all 3 games.
ME1 had a bit too much boring filler content, e.g. the Mako missions or the elevator rides.
ME3 is too much movie-shooter for casuals, without anything to explore. The final mission is the worst of the trilogy in terms of gameplay.

I just needed moar Miranda. And a better treatment for ME2's squadmates.
Combat is great, Story is great, Visuals are great, dat lenses flares and tone. I just love it. Best DLC as well, Citadel.
