Dull? maybe.
Cliche? not quite.
Forced? no.
Worst character? no way.

Nah... Krem is the main reason I will not sacrifice the Chargers. Not only is the character a nice addition to the group (love the stories told when asked), but I also admire Krem when you learn of his past and ask him if he'd use magic to go all the way, and he says no he wouldn't. Just a nice causal character to chill with after a hard quest.

Idk his story just felt as cliche as the personal Dorian dad mission. To me at least.

I think BioWARE forces the LGBTQ issues on we the players pretty ham-fistedly. However, I can ignore it, I'm not forced to say it's good or bad or anything, I can just move on.
I will never sacrifice Krem or the Chargers, but it's not because of Krem that I do it. I just ignore and move on to the other, more interesting, Chargers.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that mission is cliched nonsense.

I can understand how you feel, but for a lot of us, it's what endeared us to the characters more. Truly a matter of perspective and that's cool!

I think he's fine. We don't know enough about him or interact with him enough for me to go all fanboy about it. (I also don't understand Harding, Barris, or Abelas fans for the same reason.) I do think the writing of the scene where you can speak with him about his gender identity is clunky as hell, but that doesn't translate to forced for me. Usually when people use the words forced or cliched when it comes to queer characters, it has little to do with what's actually happening and more to do with the projecting on to the character that the person does.

Does anyone else think his character is rather dull and cliche, and at times seems rather forced?
Or am I the only one who thinks he is one of the series worst characters?
Very much so, all Krem's conversations can be chocked up to "I'm trans" and "In case you need another reminder, Tevinter is super evil and hates females and trans"............. Yeah great Krem.
Didn't find Krem interesting at all

I liked the stories he told me. Like about the Magic Trees, the spiders and the Giant that Bull's Chargers had to get during a mission. They were pretty funny!

Best story was when The Iron Bull, Krem, and five other warriors helped a village against bandits and got paid with rice. Great Seven Samurai reference.

At least the Krem fans can go and talk to him whenever they want. With those others that you mentioned I think it's more a matter of seeing the minor tidbits that the game allows, liking/being interested by/wanting to see more of the person, and that desire stoking more interest than is probably reasonable given the limited exposure. For example, Cullen has had a fanbase since DAO, and he was very minor in that game. Or there might be a villain in some movie that steals the show from a more mediocre hero, like James Woods's Hades in the Disney Hercules.

Sorry if I sounded overly critical of other people's favorites. I don't think it's a bad thing that people enjoy those characters so much, it's just not something that I can personally engage in. I understand that the potential of a character can be incredibly fascinating to people, but in a series saturated with as many complex major characters as DA has, I just can't get worked up about theorizing over a minor NPC. I also didn't give much thought to Cassandra or Cullen before DAI, but now I love them. So, I could potentially love Krem, Harding, Barris, or Abelas if they show up again, but for the time being they're just blips on the radar for me.

Yeah, I think Krem's a bit overrated. Like (disgusted noise), I also think that Abelas, Barris, and Harding are overrated as well. But, to each his/her own. He's fine with me, but I can understand and appreciate that others like him.

I agree for the most part and was just attempting to explain where the fervor comes from, which I can understand to a degree.
RE: Cassandra though, the anime didn't do her any favors. I found her so annoying in that. In fact, I liked her little mage friend more than her, the protagonist of the movie. IMO it's a failure when the characterization leads you to constantly have to remind yourself (over and over again) that she is young and had a personal tragedy in order to not turn off the movie.

Agreed.
I honestly doubt Krem would be a blip on anyone's radar if Krem wasn't trans.

So...if a heterosexual character's story revolves around their sexuality, then would that be cliche, as well? If a cis character's story revolved around them not being interested in gender roles, would that be cliche? If yes, then why? If no, then why are Krem and Dorian's stories any more cliche?

Krem is a conventionally handsome man, and conventionally handsome men tend to garner hype, so I don't think it's all that surprising. As an actual character, I don't think he's fully realized, but again, that might be some part of his charm for some folks? Dunno.
I do agree that some of the interactions we had with Krem felt overtly didactic, and I didn't enjoy them for that reason. Still, I respect the effort to reflect a more diverse population, despite the clumsy execution. These things have to begin somewhere.
