I think it's only fair we allow it if we want any sort of interesting fight.

Cass beats Iron Bull and Blackwall in sparring matches. Cass is just on another level. I'd expect nothing less from a famous Seeker, and right hand of the Divine.

Aveline is a talented guard captain...

Eh, I don't know if that's entirely fair to Aveline.  I mean, she isn't just a guard captain.  She survived Ostagar without injury, which is saying something.

So did a lot of people. I wouldn't put Uldred per se, as the top of my list of powerful mages. Especially since he could control the demons he summoned.

I can only imagine they're fighting because they have different opinion toward Sword&Shield's fanfiction.

Cassandra. Not even a contest.

Honestly, I don't even begin to understand Aveline's memetic badass status. Maybe I just never built her properly in DA2 or something, but I never found her to be a stand-out companion gameplay-wise.

This is secondary to the far more important question: Who would win between Spike and Angel? And, as we all now know, it would be Spike, as is only just and proper.

Cavemen vs. astronauts.

needs to be considered.

Aveline was originally trained as a soldier, meaning her way of fighting would be more suited for formations and mass-melee and individual fighting would have been less focused on whereas Cassandra was trained from the start as a member of a secret police/knightly order where individual combat would be more likely and propably have emphasis on that style. So one-on-one, Cassandra has the advantage.

Cassandra. Aveline is tough. She has been trained to fight, but Cassandra is a Seeker. Templars are among the most well trained soldiers in Thedas, yet the tremble at the thought of Seekers. Plus, Cassandra fights Dragons for sport.

Trained Soldier vs. Dragon Slayer.

Dragon Slayer would win that fight.

Lets see , Cassandra beat Blackwall , The Iron Bull and the Inquisitor in sparring matches so i'd say she wouldnt have much trouble against Aveline.

Aveline can be an dragon slayer as well if she helps Hawke kill the high dragon at the bone pitt.

If we're talking combat prowess in a duel, I'd give it to Cassandra.

If we'rd talking a down and out wrestle and fist fight then definitely Aveline.

Cassandra I guess. Aveline sucks 1 on 1, she can only tank and can't kill anything. When I took her with my party and I got all party members killed other than her, she would just hit last enemy that was left 2 minutes while I'd sit there clicking and being bored as heck just waiting her to finish it and cursing cause I could have finished the enemy with my double dagger Hawke in 10 seconds. It's like Aveline has spoon instead of sword ^^;

Ah, but who would win in a fight between Cassandra and Spike?

In a combat scenario? Cassandra.

In a rough brawl or fist fight? Either way. Probably Aveline.

In an arm wrestle? Aveline.

Cassandra I guess since she has the special training.

Aveline is more badass though.

Proof:

Aveline spends her off duty hours fighting bandits, crazy mages, high dragons and all kinds of crap with Hawke.

Cassandra spends her off duty hours reading friend-fiction about Aveline.

Wait?  What?  When does Cass spar with Blackwall or the Inquisitor?  Is this banter I'm missing? Are there cut scenes?

Cassandra would definitely win and not just because she wasn't stuck in Dragon Age 2: The Worst Dragon Age (sorry, hate that game, couldn't get through it), but because as others have mentioned she's been trained for that kind of one-on-one combat.  Also, all of the other companions in DA:I are constantly noting how bad ass she is.

Close one but Cassandra has Templar training so I'd imagine she'd win if there was a fight but given they're both respectable women I don't think they would

Cassandra and Aveline, yes?

They would probably talk about romantic things and perhaps copper marigolds..

And then they would slaughter any bandit, apostate or something else in sight toghether.

Does Uldred even fight at Ostagar? I thought he retreated together with Loghain.

As much as I like Aveline, I have to say Cassandra and by a wide margin... the Seeker has far more combat experience, especially working alone.  As people have said, Aveline is mainly just good at blocking... that's  not going to win her any one on one fights, especially since Cassandra also has strong defensive skills.

No, he fought. He came back with Wynne, who also fought.
