Mass Effect 2 runs through the intro perfectly, but right before you get to the character creation screen, I get the error Mass Effect 2 has stopped running for an unknown reason.

If you have a working solution, you didn't need to go grave-digging for something so old that was never a complete question anyway. Anyone coming here, hoping for advice from the gamers here (no support here -- that's EA's job), needs to include all of the data described by Chris Priestley, in his pinned message about how to report problems.
