Hi, I'm new player. I played NWN1, NWN2 and DAO (plus some other non-related games) and now I try to play BG1 enhanced edition.

I started to play with paladin (undead hunter), but now I wish to start over and play with bard. I prefer mage users (wizards, sorcerer, druids. clerics, bards), but melee oriented class is OK too. I don't like theif, but I'm really bothered by locked doors.

I like to moderately micromanage during playthrough. I like easy. I prefer being nice to NPC, and solving problems through conversation, but I don't like reading or listening every word. I prefer games like Storm of Zehir, where you have control over conversation, but prime focus is on fighting and dungeon crawling and exploration. I like many skill and ability points.

What happen with skills like diplomacy and lore? I didn't notice them when i created my paladin? What's that with proficiency? Which weapons are most useful? Could I find all weapons in this game in order to use them? Which companions are most useful for paladin? Is bard useful or good?

This month, I can't play much, because I have exams on university (Croatia), but I will have time next month.

Do you have any tips and tricks? Could I be content playing this game?

I did some googling and found out bard class is controversial. Is bard weak or decent? Should I pick skald or balde as my bard package? How to change difficulty mode? Should I pick melee or caster class?

Are potions useful or useless? What is most useful weapon for caster user? Is level progression slow or fast? Is there influence system like in NWN2?

Anyone willing to answer my questions?

So many questions... :)  Why not try for yourself? BG series is such a rich game(s) that even after all those years past and hundreds/thousands run-throughs a lot of people didn't lost interest of them.

Is bard weak or decent?

A: there are no totally weak classes out there. Some peoples even finished the whole Trilogy in no-reload run with them.

Should I pick skald or balde as my bard package?

A: both great. Blade is more melee oriented and could perform even solo whilst Skald best in party (IMO).

-How to change difficulty mode?

A: Options > Gameplay > Difficulty slider.

-Should I pick melee or caster class?

A: it's all up to you. Do what suits you best. Some prefer fighters, some (as myself) mages. You even could create a multi Fighter/Mage (Blade) and try both at the same time.

-Are potions useful or useless?

A: they aren't useless, of course, but at the same time aren't absolutely crucial.

-What is most useful weapon for caster user?

A: Spells of course!

Is level progression slow or fast?

A: depends on char's class.

All in all, try to read some guides on rules, various strategies etc. For example here

And welcome into the BG World! Hope you'll enjoy your stay here  :)

One thing that you're going to find different from NWN and DA is that you don't get skill/ability points in the same way. The stats you roll at the beginning are the stats you keep throughout the game and can only be changed through items and spells. There are no conversation specific skills like diplomacy or coercion, but higher charisma can help sometimes (and if you play a bard or paladin you'll need high charisma anyway).

I haven't played NWN2, but if you're referring to a system that tracks companion approval there isn't one per say. Your companions will react to your alignment, however, and they may leave you if your actions and reputation don't align with their worldviews. I believe the good/evil axis is more important than the law/chaos axis, but I'm not certain. Generally speaking, you'll want to find companions who have a similar alignment to yours, and there are plenty to choose from.

If you're really worried about locked doors, your first potential companion is a thief, so she can handle that stuff for you. You can also bash some locks if you're strong enough or use the knock spell if you have a wizard or higher level bard. Baldur's Gate is a series with plenty of options, and with six party member slots you should be able to cover every skill you might need.

And again, welcome to BG! These are truly amazing and fun games. Always remember to go for the eyes! :)

I have been playing the game for decades and in my opinion it is far better than NWN.

Of course over those years I have tweaked the game with mods to keep it fresh.

You can play the game in multiplayer mode which means that you can play with a party of anything from 1 to 6 from the start.

Personally, I would not start with more than two or three. If you do that, one of your characters can have some thieving ability to open locks.

If you have a thief with 60 in open locks there is a gem somewhere in Candlekeep worth 1000gp!

A fighter with high strength can also open doors. If he/she has 18 then you will be able to open all the doors that you need to open, though you will miss out on some treasure.

The problem with multiplayer mode is that you don't get any conversation with the characters that you have created. Of course you can swap them for game NPCs later.
