Whilest playing ME: Next?
Especially since there is to be NO references to ME3 events, according to the powers that be here at/on Biowarea? I wonder if the new game will/could be 'tainted' by this probable racial memory?

Any fond memory I had of ME123 I had has been either partially or fully corrupted by the ending retroactively ruining a lot of the entire overarching plot, so, no. I just want to forget it at this point and I'm hoping NME can make me feel better about the IP at least a little bit. I love the Mass Effect setting but I used to like its plot too.
I doubt it will really be a clean slate, unless they do an alternate universe thing and that is just going to be a cheap way out. Otherwise its going to be very very hard not to mention anything of a Reaper war. I think what they meant with that is that there is not going to be any characters or story elements coming over, so its going to be a new story with new people in ME universe.
I'd imaginr the reaper war will be mentioned just be kept as vague as possible saying that it happened but leaving it up to the player to try to figure out exactly what besides in my case even after 4 comes out I'm likely to still be playing the trilogy from time to time anyway I just find the games too much fun not too.
I think it'll be easier than any of y'all expect.
I will. That's for sure.
They already said the game will reference the original trilogy. It's just that Shepard and crew are done and they are starting with a fresh protagonist. I imagine it will be similar to what they do in DA where the games are all separate stories from each other but they take place in the same timeline though I imagine that the new ME will have more separation than even the DA games have from each other.
It will depend on how good or not Me4 is. If it's overwhelmingly good I may forget about 1-2-3 altogether.
If it's a steaming pile of rabbit droppings I may be wishing I was playing 1-2-3 instead.
I'll always have fond memories of the ME trilogy.
My memories of the Mass Effect series are primarily of ME 1 and 2.
ME3 was a dogfart from Priority: Earth until the ending credits. The overall arch of the story and feel of it was pitiful, and the endings sucked donkey balls. No boss fight, brand new bad guy.... Bioware definitely ( and desperately) needs to get better writers. Much of ME3 was watered down, and not polished. The game was rushed out of the door. I'm not in the habit of buying inferior products - or even mediocre ones for that matter.
When the complaints hit the forums BioWare responded by banning, squelching and every other punk tactic that they could to keep things quiet. We fans pretty much got the helicopter trick from BioWare, Casey Hudson, and Mac Walters. The EC did not fix the issues that I wanted fixed at all, but it was a gesture.
Well, now the cycle starts again. BioWare wants some money, and gee, that ME series sure did make a lot of cash..... Lets reboot it! I mean, I'm sure the fans will have forgotten how their Shepard was treated. Right?
TL;DR? Not bloody likely!
Some of my best experiences as a gamer I had thanks to Mass Effect and each of it's respective parts.
(isn't that right, voice in me head!?)
I played ME1 and ME2 in 2010 and all the way until I played ME3 I always told other people if they asked for a good game that "I think Mass Effect is the best game franchise I have ever played since Zelda Ocarina of Time back when I was a kid" and I meant it. That's how much I loved it... ME3 and not just the endings just made me super depressed about it. It failed to recapture what I liked so much about 1 and 2.
I think that ME1-3 are not going to be forgotten. They are the kind of games you go back to year after year. Even if just for a few hours just to refresh the memory of how good it felt. Sure in the end it didnt work out as well as we hoped but thats life for you.
I'll always have fond memories of the trilogy. In fact, I'm already anxiously waiting to throw my money at the remastered trilogy release for next gen. Seriously Bioware, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
how can you forget ?
and if you have forgotten ( witch is highly unlikely)
then you will be reminded as soon as you start the new game.
its still gonna be the same world just new characters
and hopefully some old ones ( liara, wrex, garrus, edi)
and this is just my opinion
im hoping for like a 100 years later kinda of timeskip.
when the new story starts.
but yeah to answer the question i will always remember the mass effect trilogy!
Initially not happy with the ending in ME3. Came to terms with it, never had to bother with ending mods to make ending bearable. However I am curious if they will mention Shepard or anything of ME3 ending or if they can merge that ending into the new game.
Even if there is no reference to the trilogy at all, I would be surprised but not very bothered by it. Stil play the trilogy and if I want Shep and co I'll load Shep and co.
If it turns out to be a truly fresh start, with no references at all, I may someday forgive. But I will never forget.
I have no idea how they plan on making a Mass Effect game that supposedly takes place in the future that has no reference to ME3.
Then again, they don't say when the game will happen. They just dance around the words. It's not a prequel, or an AU, or a sequel, or a sidequel. A reboot?
What the hell is it?
The way I see it, there are only three primary ways to handle ME4:
First option is to make it a prequel, in which case I won't even bother with the game.
Second option is to make a canon ending, which Bioware said they would *not* do - still, should they choose this route, the only way I would get ME4 is if they made Destroy canon. I despised the endings to ME3, but at least Destroy ended with the death of the Reapers
Third option is to make ME4 take place in a different galaxy, which I might be open to, because I can still pretend that Destroy is canon
