Yeah, I do.
It's my second favourite.
Don't get putt off by the humour. It really is one of the best animes created and has a great mix of action, comedy, drama and a sprinkle of romance on the side.
It also has one of the best climaxes I've seen in an anime.
NOTE:
There are two:
2003's Fullmetal Alchemsit
2009's Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Go for Brotherhood, since it's the manga version.
Like I said... give it 4 episodes before you decide on what to do next.
With those you'll get an idea on how the tone can shift from something really funny to something really dark in just one episode.

Lol, I didnt mean to offend anyone. I meant from the gifs they seem silly, I didnt make a definitive statement. Like for example the gif with the guy getting rocketed into the ceiling.
I might give them a try when I have some spare time, tho I am not likely to enjoy them much unless I can find some in English as I dislike reading subtitles.

Not any different from watching TV. If anything, the only real barrier there is if you decide to go for subtitled versions instead of dubbed ones, as hearingt he original (mostly Japanese) and simultanously reading the subtitles can be a bit distracting at the start (though in my opinion is well worth it as the original voice-acting is simply always the best, all those little nuances that can get lost, the emotions carrying over through voice, etc., though I'm also biased because I learn Japanese, so decide for yourself).

Don't mind him. Don't mind me for that matter. If you ask any of us what our favourite anime is, you don't get one per person, you get around a dozen at least. It doesn't help that the Japanese language doesn't have a seperate plural form to it, so "anime" can mean singular aswell as plural, which we'll always abuse to greatest effect when someone wants us to choose

Which is a great gate-way anime, with tons of action and very 'grown up.'

That's the best way to go about it really.
I gave up Anime after the Naruto fiasco of 05.
Then I watched the odd series. Afro Samurai, High School of the Dead, etc.
Then came RWBY, got really into that which helped.
Then after my third and fourth cons I noticed a rapid influx of Attack on Titan Cosplay, and figured to give it a shot. Here I am a year and a half later.

Thanks. The whole anime thing is really confusing with all those names and titles, it's hard to choose a name to begin. But I'll try and start with one of your suggestions and go from there

The Wind Rises is another favourite of mine as well. I don't want to go to off-topic, but yeah, there are many excellent films that you can enjoy immensely, even if you aren't a fan of anime. I don't personally watch a lot of "series", but I've seen a few.
