Beacuse they created a deep and interesting universe with plenty of room for more stories and expansion. That's it.

I love all 3 games dearly, and the plot/writing is probably my least favorite part of the trilogy and i'm really curious to what they come up with.

Plenty of franchises started as isolated movies/series/whatever but became so much more beacuse the world they created, Mass Effect is no diffirent.

You think it's going to suck? Good, people should seriously stop hyping up games in their head, that game will never be more than an idea and reality will always be dissapointing. Keeping your expectations realistic and critical, you'll at worst be right and at best plesantly surprised.

Hell, that goes for life in general.

Because the Mass Effect universe is interesting. It is also large enough for more than one story, and more than one hero. The setting is a galaxy filled with perhaps hundreds of colonized worlds and space stations, with trillions of inhabitants.

Prior to Star Trek: The Next Generation a lot of Trekkies were making the same argument, that there could be no Star Trek without Kirk, Spock, Scottie, and all the other characters from the original series / movies. Fast forward twenty some years and the cast of characters from TNG are as beloved as those from the original series.

For me the star of the Mass Effect games were always the Mass Effect universe, Shepard was just a guide in that universe.

I don't get people who think ME is exclusively about Shepard and his band of merry men. The ME universe has so much more potential to it, the races, the politics, the exploration, and much as I enjoyed Shep and pals they were largely just a proxy for exploring it. Shep in particular existed pretty much as a set of ears and eyeballs to learn about the world through. His story was barely his story at all. It was a story of hearing other people's stories.

Here's the way I see it;

I loved the first three Star Wars movies. I detested the prequels. I stayed away from everything Star Wars for several years. Now, because of my love of the sw universe, I am curious about and look forward to the new movie.

Same applies to Mass Effect. I loved me1 and me2. I detested the me3 endings. I stayed away from everything Mass Effect for several years. Now, because of my love of the me universe, I am curious about and excited for me4.

I keep hoping that they can re-establish the universe wihout alienating me and make a good standalone plot. Hasn't happen since ME1 IMO. ME1 had a great plot, ME2 had great world-building and a straightforward unsurprising plot, ME3's plot was a mess and NME will have whatever quality of plot it might get.

I just hope Chris Schlerf understands Mass Effect and I hope he doesn't realism-ize everything too much like he did with Halo 4. The worst thing about Halo 4 compared to the older games was that the tongue-in-cheek charm was completely gone and it felt like watching The Walking Dead TV show (which is terrible btw) -- took itsef way too seriously. It can make very dramatic moments seem overdone and even cringe worthy if there isn't enough levity and room to breathe or comic relief.

Mass Effect 1 had Renegade Shepard and Udina was also a very caricatured character which honestly worked to the story's favor. ME2 and ME3 has a lot of silly stuff by patrick weekes and John dombrow which lightens the tone when needed.

I always appreciated ME1 for not breakin the immersion with fanservice and such, so I hope Chris Schlerf can write a good and very serious plot but then the senior writers can add some brevity to the writing and Schlerf can keep them in check so they don't overdo it either (because they did in ME3 with all the bad inside jokes, like Garrus constantly calibrating)

Because people like the Mass Effect universe and would love to play in it even if Shepard is not in the picture.  I know, crazy, right?

But which universe?  It keeps changing with each game.

Which version of Cerberus?

Which version of the geth?  (heck will the geth even be around?)

Red ending, Green ending?  Blue Ending?

Tough-talking bad@ss marine with controversial opinions?  Or soft-spoken, hard-drinking officer in thigh-highs?

Mako or Hammerhead?

Our protagonist or Mac's?

What is the "Mass Effect universe" and what will it be next time?  What can we trust it to be next time?

I have no problems with any variation of the outcomes you listed, provided they are implemented well. But I'm going to wait for about 1-2 months after release to get it, as I do with any other game, regardless how much I wait and want it. I can't afford gambles such as preorders.

Mass Effect is good Sci Fi.  I don't even know why you still post here Iakus you have been whining nonstop for  three years straight now.  Move on already and leave those of us that love this series alone already.  Go to forums of game you actually like instead.  Posting the same whiney crap three years after the fact isn't going to get them to change ending of ME 3 or how the rest of the game was made.  ME 3 isn't changing it is what it is.  Either you like it or you don't but either way it isn't changing.  At this point you are just so bitter because they didn't tailor the last chapter of the series to all of your little whims that you are just determined to troll them to punish them somehow.  Talk about being narcissistic, bitter, and unable to move on.

If you have suggestions for the new ME game than that is fine but you don't do that you just whine about the franchise in general.

It's been said by plenty of others but there's a lot more to Mass Effect than Shepard and the Reapers. I really liked Shepard and crew but there's no reason the same couldn't be true for others in the same setting, and the Reapers were one of the weak sides of the whole thing anyway.

As said by many, Shep was the beginning, and one story of many to be told.  ME Universe has much to offer.

Bioware gives me a nice diversion/distraction I can get thru from A to Z.  That is way more then most other games provide.  I am not waiting for "the perfect" game just an entertaining one.  ME1 thru 3 did just that.  Shepards story is done so whats wrong with a new one.  Actually kind of glad Shepards story is finished.

Ah, I see OP has left the DA:I forums for a while and continues his general negativity in the ME sections.
