Maybe mass effect should become more like Dragon Age. Or perhaps more like Assassin's Creed with its 3 titles and than a new setting and protag.

Wouldn't hurt, since even Saint's Row figured out there's only so much ways your 1 character can be shown a badass before the whole shtick gets dull and loses all its fun.

Hey, I'll be happy if they take a new direction that can be defined as "run away from ME3 as fast as they can"

But i'm not going to say I'm looking forward to a new Mass Effect game just "because Mass Effect"  The franchise simply doesn't have enough of an identity for me to get excited over the name.

Yeah i was attached to Shep's story. After ME3 fleeing that mangled trainwreck is the only viable option i see.

There's a certain identity to the franchise so far based on the races and structures but seems in air how much will be retained in whatever is to come.

Right now i'm interested in ME4 because i want a RPG space Adventure.

I really don't get it

ME was always about Shepard and his crew and the threat of the reapers

You didnt read any of the ME books, did you? Cause there was no shepard and VERY little about reapers.

I always felt like ME was a one time thing

Thats probably the most important sentence of your posting. Is it so hard to understand, that personal feelings are a personal matter and other people can have quite different feelings? Do you really think all people like the same food like you? The same girls? The same books, movies... and... yes... the same games?

In your terms: I dont get it - why do people think all other people share exactly the same feelings?

This isn't DA where every game has a new protagonist or AC with every game in a new time period

I always felt like ME was a one time thing

Apart from that they really rushed ME3 in my opinion and screwed the whole Trilogy as a result

(The terrible Beginning, Priority Earth, Crucible, The terrible ending, the auto dialouge, screwing the ME2 squad as a few popular examples)

yes ME3 was rushed, yes EA whips every franchise they acquire until it either churns out a game every year (fifa) or dies from utter sucking (most of the rest) but we do not know yet if that applies to ME..

time will tell, if the next ME game(s) suck beyond belief then that means the end of yet another amazing series, killed in its prime by a money hungry evil company.

Not all fans have the same opinion....but that was never in question. There will be people who want to see a new spin on a familiar series just as there are people who will never accept anything but the original.

I probably should have explained my point a little better - there will always be people irritated about something. I think there are two "camps," one that thinks that ME is only about Shepard, and those who are wary of anything Mass Effect after the way ME3 was handled. I was really referencing the latter

My opinion on this: I love the ME universe, but hated the ending of ME3. Bioware lost me as a fan at that point, just as Lucas made me skeptical after Jar Jar and midichlorians. When I say a "fan," I mean someone who has preordered everything Bioware since the Baldur's Gate days, most of those CE preorders. So whereas normally, I would have been all-in for a ME4 and beyond without a second thought - Shepard or not - I am now not going to preorder, and I won't even buy it if there is a hint of green glowy Synthesis bits, if it's a prequel, or if there is a Shepard Catalyst. I will spend my money elsewhere ...

I'm so over Shepard it's beyond where I ever dreamed I'd be. I still love the Mass Effect Universe. As far as I'm concerned they could declare Shepard dead. I don't care about Shepard. Shepard was ruined by bad writing in the end. I've moved on. I've let go. But I still love the MEU. As far as I'm concerned I think any ending but synthesis would really work for a sequel. They'd have a hard time explaining synthesis. Just send the reapers out into dark space in the Control ending after they fix everything, and make no mention of exactly what happened at the end of the war at all. If the reapers sit in dark space for another 50,000 years they're totally irrelevant for the story. Shepardlyst can reap in 50,000 years if (s)he wants, and no one will care because we'll all be dead or have technology that surpasses the reapers. Who cares?

Just write a story and make it a good one.

this is what I don't understand if you got burned by the ORIGINAL
trilogy ( like you apparently, me too) why would you want to play the next game set in that universe?

only to be reminded how Bioware screwed up so badly with ME3?
its like hating the original star wars movies but looking forward to the new ones (prequels don't count)
This is directed to all those who were disappointed with ME3

Hell if they didn't rush ME 3 and made it awesome I would probably also be looking forward to ME4

Personally, I Wouldn't mind it if ME died out and it got replaced in time by a new sci fi series.

I want more of the galaxy I've already spent thousands of hours learning about and exploring. All of the alien species and cultures, I want to see more of Salarians and Turians and Quarians. They all have so much more potential to be expanded on in new directions.

I really want ME4 to let me play as different alien species, so I can dig deeper into the lore and alien cultures that I already have grown to love from the ME trilogy. Salarians, Turians, Krogan and Quarians are some of my favorite alien species of all sci-fi, so I'd love the opportunity to get to live in their cities and civilizations.

I never really cared about Shep to be honest. I didn't dislike Shep, but I never got emotionally married to him/her the way some people have. I always viewed Shep as just a shell that can be whatever I want and because I played so many different Sheps, it was never about Shep being "one character" but rather, just a vehicle to roleplay through.

Also, I'm sick of the reapers. They had a good run, but they got their asses kicked, I'm thoroughly done with them. I am much more interested in just seeing the ME Galaxy post-ME3 ending and seeing how all the different species are trying to rebuild. I would be totally happy with ME4 not having an ancient evil that everyone needs saved from.

I agree with this then I might be interested again

They should ME rest don't know why they think that after screwing up and rushing the original trilogy (at least with Star Wars only the prequels were ****) another ME is needed

Bioware have created a deep and engaging universe that I want to revisit and explore further.

For me it was never about Shepard, it was about my created character and how they interacted with people and events.

Playable alien species? Unless they spend big $$ on the extra voice actors, animations, cinematics etc I don't see it happening.

Plus I'm sure it will look amazing on nextgen without the tech restraints.

That's not going to happen as long as enough continue show interest in the franchise.

Plenty of people "hate" Return of the Jedi for many reasons, and feel it was full of wasted potential after The Empire Strikes Back.

It's arguably where the appeal to children and ultra-corny dialogue really started. Granted, they existed before, but they definitely took out a lot of the darker undertones for a more fantastical and idealistic portrayal.

That's not to say its a bad film. Hell, take out the Jar Jar scenes in Episode 1 and people actually thought that, sans Jake Lloyd shouting 'Yippee!', it was actually a tolerable film. Some guy actually did it. Episode 2 is the clunker of the series imo. The love story... dear god that was awful. Episode 3 was good, except when Anakin was angsting. Really, anybody who plays Anakin sucks. And the dialogue has always been weak. At least Lucas acknowledges that he's bad at it.

I have no interest in any further Star Wars adventures, though mainly because the EU has been completely nuked. And that's what I considered to be the real heart of the SW universe. I still don't know why they had to declare everything that wasn't a movie or Lucas made as non-canon.

I'm looking forward to mass effect 4 because quite simply, Mass effect is the most well designed, most detailed novel universe that has been developed in the gaming world in recent years.

You can tell the quality of the game because the universe and the characters seem alive and unique and not two dimensional like the universes and characters in every other console or PC game. Obviously a lot of work went into it.

Nuking the EU simplifies things a great deal. Now they can go in whatever direction they want without ever having to consider what the books introduce.

While I have serious reservations about a new Mass Effect game, I want a new scifi game from BioWare, whether it be a new ME or some other IP. I want to explore space, meet aliens, kill a few of them, and so on.

Personally, I'm glad the EU is gone. You lose a few Gems....but get rid of a lot of dross and contradictory characterization and elements.

At least the segment between "Best seats in the house" and the Stargazer?   :D

They could at least hold onto a few of them e.g. Kriea, Sion, the exile, pre-TOR Revan.

Back on topic when it comes to new characters they should be judge by their own merit rather than be compared to the cast from the trilogy. Trying to top any of the characters from the trilogy is just going to result in bad writing.

I'm going to explain it to you:

People love the universe, they want to see more of it. They want to explore the places where Shepard didn't go. They want the lore to be expanded and more stories to be told from this universe.

And Mass Effect is an awersome game series. I love playing them.

You say that as if it would change my interest in the game series....if you want to stricken ME3 from your personal cannon go on, it's your head cannon after all.

Gameplay and story in a setting we love, not constrained by slavish adherence to what's come before, but inspired by it to try new directions.

Pretty much this.

I'm looking forward to people that were so butthurt from ME3 that they vowed to never give EA or Bioware another penny...come and complain about the next Mass Effect.
