But it didn't stop them going foward with it, people will be upset no matter what bioware does so they may as well deal with endings sooner rather than later.

Yes people will be p*ssed off no matter what they do.

But I believe canonizing an ending, even Destroy, will only add to the problem.  Why bother even importing choices or creating a Keep to set plot flags when your decisions can be erased because it's too hard to account for it?

If they decide to jettison game imports and make a canonical universe, that's fine.  Heck, I've been soured on the entire import system.  But don't jerk people around with "There is no canon.  Your choices matter.  Now get back on the rails"

Why bother because it can link, say, three games together. I don't see how anyone can't see that it's utterly impractical to do that for evermore though, since the choices to account for will continue to grow exponentially. It's either canonise one choice, ignore the whole thing altogether, or only ever do prequels (with a smaller scope so that there aren't any choices that affect the overall game universe). Nothing else is practical. Smaller scope would be a good move regardless.

They only ever said that choices would be imported across the original planned trilogy of games and that is what people got.

Anyone expecting it to continue after the third game does things like let you remove the Quarians and Geth from the setting is being unrealistic.

That's just it.  People do seem to expect it.

Sucks to be them I guess.

If there are actually people who wouldn't buy a sequel because the developer doesn't feel like designing a game around their decision to kill the Quarians/Krogan/whatever, well sometimes you have to write fans off.

It's not a ideal to make one choice canon but it gives the devs something to work with.

I'm dreading the amount of 'Liara in mass effect next!!' topics. The mary sue of mass effect, with her long lifespan. :(

Mess with my waifu and you might lose your laifu.

The Mass Effect titles are one of my favorite franchises since I began playing it five years ago. Despite it mainly being focused on Shepard form the previous games, the ME universe is massive with so many possibilities, history and new ideas that can be implemented. I would find it a shame if they decided it ended with ME3 because it is an amazing title to build upon and to continue to do so.

It doesn't have to end because Shepard's story concluded, hell depending on the age setting on the next game Liara and Grunt could still be alive as well as many characters. So despite it being a new story we have the possibility of familiar characters returning and new characters that we can grow to love once more as we did in the previous games.

I'm honestly hoping that it doesn't though.  There are literally trillions of other souls out there.  Why drag back the same number of souls to bring forth this wholly new and fresh game?

LOL

Peace friend. ;)

I actually like Liara as a character. My issue is with Bioware and the writing team. But that is a very old issue that I would rather not reopen.

She will probably be there as sad as that makes me

the writers REALLY seem to like her

Most of the fanbase does as well. She was the most popular LI. It's the same reason why Garrus & Tali were present through three games...popularity.

As said before, if any squadmates from the previous games are going to be present and the game's set in the future, there's only 4 options:

Liara - she's a relatively young Asari by ME3
Grunt - Krogan are immortal
Wrex - Krogan are immortal
EDI - AI are immortal

But since they could all be dead (though you have to really work for it to kill Liara :P), there will probably be none.

And some of you guys really crack me up. You want the game to acknowledge all your choices but at the same time want it to be set in the future. That's impossible, and you know it. Just say you don't want a new Mass Effect game, it makes you sound a little less crazy.

Nuking the EU simplifies things a great deal. Now they can go in whatever direction they want without ever having to consider what the books introduce.

Which sucks. I'd rather have no new Star Wars movies than cut the books.

Hell, they could have even left the 'Legends' universe, as it's now called, unlocked so that people could still keep it going. They didn't have to completely lock it down and introduce a system of phasing out the old material. Disney really wants everything about the EU wiped from existence it seems.

Plus, it still feels like a huge discredit to all the authors, writers, and creators of extraneous material for the EU over the last 30 years. To just have all their work swept under the rug... It rather sucks.

Disney is pretty much on a warpath of cutting everything out that does not belong to them. Since EU did not and could not be controlled by them they simply nuked it.

I wonder if every LI in the trilogy were avaialble at the beginning of the trilogy and romanceable to both male and female Shepard, how popular would she be then?

The same if all squadmates were available as squadmates in all 3 games like Garrus and Tali, how popular would they be?

I'm not surprised that it happened though. As a franchise, Star Wars is a mess. If Disney was able to undo the prequel trilogy, they'd probably erase that bit as well.

A number of them would have to be mutually exclusive, because there are simply far too many companions across the trilogy.

I don't want Bioware to canonize an ending because I know if they, they'll pull some stupid stunt and pick the worst ending like Synthesis.  For some reason they seem to think that's the best outcome for the galaxy which is laughable in all respects.

I really don't get it

ME was always about Shepard and his crew and the threat of the reapers

This isn't DA where every game has a new protagonist or AC with every game in a new time period

I always felt like ME was a one time thing

Apart from that they really rushed ME3 in my opinion and screwed the whole Trilogy as a result

(The terrible Beginning, Priority Earth, Crucible, The terrible ending, the auto dialouge, screwing the ME2 squad as a few popular examples)

And I know many are not satisfied with it so why are even those excited for ME4? Are all the empty promises and failure's just forgotten?

Of course if you liked ME3 then this doesn't apply to you

I thought ME3 was a good game with a bad ending but because it was also the ending of a trilogy it's bad ending had more impact than it would of had on a single one off game.

I don't need anymore Shepard of story. I could honestly careless about Shepard in ME4. I however think ME was greater than just Shepard's story. And because I enjoyed the mass effect trilogy I want to see more ME games. I also thought DA2 sucked but I was willing to see how DA:I turned out and I was happy with the result, I enjoyed DA:I.

So yes I don't give up on a developer when they make a mistake, but I am not a blind follower. I use to like Blizzard games but they took their games in a very different direction then I liked so I don't buy their games. But I still look at their games to see if I might like it.

I like the way you think!  As Dorian once put it....

The voice of pragmatism speaks!

Although, to be fair, the ME 3 ending was more than a mistake.  It was pure folly.  It was a disaster.  It was an unmitigated catastrophe.  The question is...where is the line drawn? Should Bioware be forgiven for their obvious hubris?

Hubris?   Really?  I do not think that word means what you think it means.
