My first playthrough Human Noble was Cassandra, Vivienne, and Iron Bull just because I wanted to see if he really wore the outfit that Vivienne was talking about in the party banter.
Second playthrough Dalish Elf was Cassandra, Solas and Sera just because I thought it would be funny.
Haven't decided who I'll bring on the current one...

I brought Vivienne because I thought she was going to be insightful and super useful here--what a wasted opportunity. I could have brought someone else for all that it mattered. Very disappointed in that.
But other than her, I brought Iron Bull and Varric.

I brought Cassandra (love intrest) Vivienne because I thought it would be her kind of thing, and Varric because he is a people person. It's funny what Varric finds out at the ball, it's a shame that you need to waste halla statues to find him.

Varric always and Cassandra, the first time I brought Solas who greatly enjoyed himself and the second time I brought Doran who was reminded of home.

Cassandra, Sera and Vivienne

Vivienne, because it's the game.
And I can't really remember the third one. All I know is that I exspected that Vivienne would play a bigger part.

My Lavellan brought Solas, Cole, and Cassandra. The "elven manservant" line dropped my jaw, let me tell you. But despite all that, I'm glad he got to have fun. Cassandra's extra long name was perfect, and well, Cole.... I was worried until I found him in the library. ![]()
My Trevelyan went with Dorian, Sera, and Varric for a different flavor. The asides Sera and Varric have during the introduction were pretty fun. And as others mentioned, I really enjoyed hearing how Dorian felt about the whole thing. It's a comfort that Tevinter isn't all that different...you know, aside from all the murder and assasinations. There was a little of that anyway though, ne?

First game I brought Solas (LI), Vivienne, and Cassandra. I was disappointed with Vivienne too....she told me I should find all of the Council of Heralds since they were all there, but I think I only found one of them (Gaspard's uncle). And the dowager, but she wouldn't talk to me. ![]()
Second game was Varric (never found him), Dorian, and Cass.
This time I will bring Blackwall (LI), probably Dorian again, and probably Sera for the laughs

The Dowager will talk to you after the second bell, if you offer to dance with her she sets you off on a series of war table missions to the theme of dance.

Cass is a fixture (Get on with it!)
Varric is another because I spent a couple of PTs trying to locate him. A friend said he's standing at the stairs near the entrance to the vestibule but no sight of him. Another said he's behind a pillar. Nope. He's in a room full of his admirers in one of the rooms of the vestibule. Nope. Finally someone said he's behind one of the doors in the lower garden, it has to be opened with halla statues. Well blast him, he's probably baring his chest hair to admirers for I know, he can stew.
Dorian and Solas rotate. I brought Viviene once; she isn't much help.

Cassandra, who is a permamember of my party. Like Alistair and Fenris before her.
In all my playthroughs, I've brought all companions with me at least once. And I found Cole, Dorian, Solas, and Iron Bull to be the most amusing/insightful... besides Cassandra ![]()
I brought Blackwall out of curiosity at one point, and was a bit amused at the noble harassing him in his little hiding spot. 'Do I know you from somewhere?' Of course you do! Maybe without the beard...

Cassandra and Vivian seemed like obvious choices. I can't really see how you could justify *not* bringing them. Although as people point out, both of them do basically nothing, which was a huge disappointment (but then neither does Leliana really).Lastly, I bring Cole because I'm hunting for an assassin and having someone who can (to a certain interpretation of what he does) read minds, might be handy. His power isn't quite so clear cut, but I thought it had to be worth a shot. (Again though, he does nothing).
The others all seemed like they would be counter-productive to bring along. Sera is an urchin from ths streets who hates nobles, Iron Bull is a Qunari, Dorian is from Tevinter (not exactly illegal, but likely viewed with suspicion), Solas is an elven apostate, Blackwall is an uncouth noble hating lout (as they would see it anyway, but actually a pretty fair description which he probably wouldn't argue with).
There is always Varric of course. He's the other obvious choice, but I like to rotate the party so everyone gets a main quest and there aren't many to go round. I'd used him in several missions already, so he had to warm the bench on this one (as he is basically a lock to be included on Hawke;s mission).

Cass is for the romance dance, Varric because he is noble and can pick lock a d Viv is clearly the best for a noble party like this.

Sera because I am an awful person, Viv because I'm a good person, and Varric just because the first time around. I've tried a few other combinations since then.
But there was something satisfying about two dwarves and Sera strolling up, and Viv muttering along behind them.

I wanted to bring those whom would reflect best (or least bad) on the Inquisition to the court nobles, while also balancing party combat skills should the need arise.
So Cass, Varric, and Madam de Fer.

Depends, if my Quizzy for the game is trying to look good, Dorian, Vivienne, Cassandra. Doesn't care, Varric, Solas, Cassandra. Would rather give off and "I don't want you to like me" vibe. Iron Bull, Sera, Blackwall.
Can you imagine if those 3 actually acted like themselves and could mingle in there?

This time I'm romancing Cass. Will she give me a dance as well?

Typically, I bring Cassandra (since she's the Hero of Orlais), Vivienne (because there's an Amulet of Power for her and it seems like the place she would be) and Varric (because I never go anywhere without the dwarf)

First play through.
Elf rogue inquisitor. Cassandra, Solas and Iron Bull. Was romancing Solas so they danced at the end.
Second play through. Cassandra, Sera (Hilarious with her) and Blackwall who my inquisitor was romancing. They danced at the end as well.

1st playthrough as Trevelyan: Cassandra (LI) Vivienne, Cole
2nd Playthrough as Adaar: Team YOLO (Dorian, Iron Bull, Sera)
Cassandra and Sera have lol moments as they are introduced. Cole, also amusingly, isn't introduced at all.
