Now that Firestorm is fixed, I want to try a build with four offensive abilities.

Does this violate any unwritten code? Should I even worry about it? I pug 95% of my matches.

I haven't had barrier on my elementalust for the longest time. All of my abilities have always been offensive in nature.

Is barrier not worth the damage bonus on your spells?

If your running perilous, firestorm, firewall, barrier + whatever you want

Not running barrier makes things a lot harder.

For Threatening do whatever the **** you want cause its so easy every build roflstomps

The only time I'm not in perilous is the four matches after I promote.

A lot of the replies shocked me. I've always had barrier. Never tried Firestorm until last night. Crap, I've been using all my flashpoints for barrier. Thanks for the replies. Going balls out dps this promotion.

Honestly, I would rather have firestorm, wall of fire thing, barrage and meteor shower over that.(I probably got a few spell names mixed up, but you get the point. Kind of tired atm.)

Pretty much ^this.  It isn't essential to use barrier in perilous, but it sure is helpful.

Every elementalist I've ever seen sucks at using barrier anyway. They prioritize offensive spells and don't know how to manage their mana. Might as well go all out.

I like it. It does decent enough damage. I also have 2 unique staffs with epic mods on it, so it packs a punch.

When you save flashpoint for barrier, an elementalist is as good or better than a keeper at keeping a group alive.

I guess I see keeper more as a support role while ele is more balls to the wall kill everything character.

I've been running a lot of Ele with Barrier, Fire Wall, Stonefist, Ice Mine. With Flashpoint thrown in the mix, this setup is better support than the Keeper (though I love playing both).

I see the ele as more control, firewall and firestorm don't really do a lot of damage.

Eh, for Perilous, especially pugs (and especially for the pugs I see, I'd use barrier to keep others from perma dying and buffing the rest of the mobs). I go Firewall, Barrier, Fire Storm, and Decloaking Blast.

Firewall is great to get your double proc for firestorm/barrier and if your party doesn't have a dedicated barrier user. I use decloaking blast to walk over anyone who die in a group. 3 Second invulnerability while reviving them, then a CC knock up to buy you more time to pick them up.

Iunno, unless you just happen to run w/ a group who can roflstomp w/ high tier weapons or have a lot of promotions under their belt, it's pretty difficult and I always assume that the other people in my Perilous Pugs are bad. I'm usually right, and usually glad I built mine with Barrier.

Is there a perilous code? No, you can do the hell you want, but if you wanna increase your clears you better be confident you can clear a final stage w/ 3 people perma dead (meaning enemies are buffed), with the boss and assassins looking to bring you to their prom as their date.

You could go more offensively I guess, the best form of CC is killing things, but then again...dead dps is no dps. I'd worry less about your personal dps and think of your group as a whole and focus on your group's dps, and if it will generally be higher by covering someone's butt with Barrier, then you're generally better off going more defensively.

I barriered everything when mages were my favorite class.

Uh oh. The last venatori of the wave looks dangerous. Wouldn't want to lose my full health. Casts barrier and watches venatori fall to teammates before even attacking.

My design principle is this:  Is this skill fun?  Is this skill efficient?  will skill X or skill Y help most when PUGing?

For Ele, IMO, Barrier helps PUGs far more than a 4th offensive skill.

You can't guarantee a Keeper;  you're far more likely to get a warrior;  Barrier can clutch a situation;  Games broadly go far smoother if someone can cast Barrier.

So yes, i take Barrier, but prioritise on damage/AoE.  Depending on party composition, i'll Barrier more or less, even not at all.

I don't use it.  You can pretty much solo everything anyways.

If I wasn't pugging and I was playing perilous with competent players then I would bring it.

Math to brighten your day:

DC = 33% of bosses

Bosses = 10% of a match (at most)

Only 3.3% of your game is now pointless

You're welcome
