Yeah, I can see why this was pulled just due to awkward timing, but it does raise this question: should you re-enlist Samson into the Templars, does this suggest he was already recruited by Corypheus at that time?

I can't even wrap my brain around this, this is a big deal. This adds pre-meditation, potentially years of pre-meditation, considering you can do Legacy at any part of DA2's 10 year timeline.

How would you imagine a Samson romance?

A little bleak I think given what's happened to him.

As Tigrae says, the issues of trust are pretty much in the forefront of a romance with him.  Trust and pity aren't the same things and if not handled well it could easily fall one way rather than the other.

Yeah, I mean it's pretty clear that's why it was cut. Without actually placing a canonical time for Legacy to occur, it just doesn't work. But the nice thing of semicanonical information like this is it's much easier to hack it up for parts...

I'd imagine it often, and in great detail.

How would you imagine a Samson romance?

A lot.  Too much.

Ok, mostly just what everyone else said; lots of trust issues, power-imbalance issues.  I think it would be key that the Inquisitor was clearly communicating that they wanted to be in the relationship as equal partners.  I think he would need that re-assurance because his trust has been so ridiculously violated over the years.  I think it would be a pretty slow-burn.

Hey ppl, I've been wondering: Thrask refers to Samson as a templar who retired from the Order due to philosophical differences.

So every templar in Kirkwall knows of Samson's gruesome fate after being expelled. They are also well aware he helps smuggle mages away.

So here's my question: hasn't any of them helped Samson somehow? Providing him with regular dosages of lyrium, asking friends outside the Order to let him have a place to sleep, etc?

What are your thoughts on this?

Probably not. To me, most either agreed with Meredith in expelling Samson and the rest would be too scared of being punished for trying to help him.

Lyrium, absolutely not; that doesn't violate just templar regulations, that'll explicitly get the chantry on their butts if they get caught. Checking up on him, maybe finding him short-term work, that's at least within the realm of possibility, I'd think. Getting him to accept the help from people who are currently Templars is probably tricky, though. The pride, again. He's begging, sure, but those are strangers. And not strangers who used to be his peers.

I think we discussed at some point Thrask and sympathetic Templars he's known helping him out from time to time. I imagine the Templars look out for their own, sort of like the police.

The official word might have been that he was let go for "philosophical differences" but I'm sure the women and men he'd been living with for most of his life knew it was the letters (and maybe the philosophical differences were him thinking of mages as people, unlike Meredith and her cronies). It probably is dangerous business to be seen as sympathetic to him, so the Templars that do help probably try to keep it on the down-low. They don't want to be caught in Meredith's sights as a mage-sympathizing Templar.

Maybe he finds dead drops of new clothes, non-perishable food, a little bit of coin to rent a bed in a flop house, like Arcanista said - he's a proud man, probably not into taking handouts from friends.

Maybe Samson waits until he has no other options sometimes and he shows up on Thrask's doorstep in the middle of the night, gaunt, sick, and they let him stay for a bit to get well again.

I think it's pretty clear from the game and the way he was written, it's not pity he wants, it's consideration. And there might be like minded people in the order who throw that his way as carefully as they can (without themselves getting caught and suffering the same fate as he) and when he really can't be proud anymore he takes what he can get.

I commissioned some more art that came in this morning. I wanted to see what a young Templar Samson might look like: the one that just got his sun shield from Knight-Commander Guylian and probably liked what he was doing for a living.

I wonder how a tarot card of Samson would look like...

Him in 3 acts; as a young templar, as a guttersnipe and then clad in his red lyrium armour.

I really like your idea of the three phases of his life! Which cards would you pick out for them?

I won a free art commission for a tarot card from an artist on Tumblr that I set up for him post-judgement (Five of Swords), but I've no idea when it'll be done.

Five of Swords

  • losing your moral compass
  • letting ends justify means
  • sacrificing integrity
  • losing sight of what is right
  • achieving a dubious victory
  • having an "us-against-them" mentality
  • creating ill will
  • experiencing conflict

Well, there were some cards a while ago showing DA:I characters and their weakenesses. Blackwall and gold, Dorian and men, etc.

Maybe such card could be done for Samson? His weakness is not even lyrium, in my humble opinion, but his hatred against Meredith. Later on, he came to hate the Chantry due to his recruitment by Corypheus.

So the card could show him in two moments:

The Past - Samson as a guttersnipe, looking longingly at the Gallows or the symbol of the Templars (the sunshield or another symbol), with blue lyrium in one of the margins of the card.

The Present - Samson as the knight in red, with a vengeful expression and the Templars' heraldry behind him, looking dark, with red lyrium in the other margin of the card.

The images of Meredith and Corypheus could be hinted at in each side, since they were the forces responsible for the chages Samson underwent.

Other fans may have more ideas for the card. Let's wait for them to manifest what they have in mind.  ^_^

Can this be true? Apparently, 2 Codexes went missing in DA2 after you play the DLC Legacy. Check them out:

(...) depending on whether you sided with Larius or Janeka, you were supposed to get a codex entry from Hawke’s personal journal titled A Strange Sighting:

Variant 1

Yesterday, I saw a man I could swear was Larius, just walking around Lowtown. I wasn’t sure at first, but that armor, that hair… he’s unmistakable.

He was talking to Samson, of all people. I can’t imagine what a Grey Warden commander and an ex-templar vagrant have in common, but they seemed intent in their discussion. When I came closer, Larius pulled Samson into a doorway—I don’t know if he saw me or not, but it seemed almost like they were avoiding me.

Variant 2

Yesterday, I saw a woman I swear was Janeka, skulking around Lowtown. She had told me that as soon as she reported what happened to Corypheus, she would go on her Calling and die in the Deep Roads, but I’m positive she was the woman I saw talking with Samson.

And that is also odd—what does a Grey Warden have in common with an ex-templar vagrant? When they saw me coming, they left. They were definitely avoiding me.

Hawke was unsure if it was Larius he had seen?

Don't be too hard on him. Lots of people in Kirkwall look like aging, withered, ghoulish husks of who they once were! I mean, have you seen the water that flows through Kirkwall? It's nasty.

Indeed! I was surprised to find this post on Tumblr. Tbh, I'm not even sure how someone stumbled upon those lost codexes.
