Just for fun: If your Warden was in Here Lies the Abyss, what would the Nightmare taunt them about? etc etc.

True enough. My exampe does not work for every possible Warden. It is ultimately irrelevant though. Every human being has fears. Even evil a*sface Wardens without any redeemable qualities or positive emotions whatsoever and the Nighmare knows them all. He would have something to mock the Warden with in any case.

Well true but as i said in that case fear would be death (to a certain extent) or own well-being and they as far aren't endangered in case i presented.

Synthesis is the canon ending of ME3.

I'd be crushed.

Well in my headcanon my Aeducan was there, along with Loghain (and maybe some other characters. I dunno). But I suppose it would go something like this.

Fear Demon: Xanthos Aeducan, King of Orzammar, Hero of Ferelden, Vanquisher of the Blight, and Paragon to not just the Dwarves but to all of Thedas. Do you truly believe you can save your people from extinction? Do you truly believe you can undo centuries of damage? How arrogant of you. All you have done is prolong the inevitable. How many people died because you were too afraid to kill Bhelen, because he was family? How many Dwarves died because of your weakness, their blood paving the way for your throne of lies? And you cling to that spirit of yours -- and indeed, that Spirit -- so tightly. Does death frighten you so? Is that not why you agreed to your beloved Morrigan's offer, so you wouldn't die against Urthemiel? Your mind will rot away, as it does for all Wardens. You cannot escape your fate, Your Majesty. Death will come no matter what, for you and for all those you hold most dear. Your wife in Orzammar and Morrigan and Leliana, your son Kieran, your family and friends. You will lose it all."

Xanthos: Do your worst Demon. Nothing you say can change where I stand or who I am. I have killed many of your kind and I'll not fall to false words you utter to compensate for your own weakness, nor idle threats that I've heard time and time again. I am here, I will remain, and you are but a fleeting shadow in the trail I walk. "

EDIT: Actually I kinda imagine it would continue past Xanthos' comeback, with the two of them just going at it for a bit with their own retorts.

Everyone has such great comeback dialogue for their Warden...Mine would be deeply unnerved, probably too unnerved to say much of anything.

No matter what anyone writes, though, Loghain still has the best, most BAMF response dialogue ever.

*grunts* "Is that all? It's nothing I haven't told myself."

I often thought of a nightmare for my Queen Cousland. Slamming a sword into the archdemon only to find it had tricked her and she had killed Alistair instead. Eventually it comes down to the fact that he will die (as everyone does) and she cannot stop it.

I love that because it's so Loghain. Reminds me of when the Warden could attempt to trash talk him and he's all "Is that it? Oh, that almost struck a glancing blow. Well done."

You just can't phase the guy. :S

I was actually underwhelmed by the nightmare's response to Loghain, if you wanted to poke him for reaction, threathen his daughter!

He doesn't die before dropping some mad feels on the skinned knees and pigtails line with Anora, though.

(for the record he's dead in my canon run too. :S)

BioWare games. Every enemy needs a chance to drop some purple overwrought eye-roll of a last word before he dies. They would be substantially better if people just, y'know, died.

yes loghain had a child we KNOW but what we DON'T know is why he can still TALK after getting a DAGGER THROUGH THE NECK

nah I say this about the arishok and Timmy and Corypheus and Saren and Malak and Darth Baras and basically every single major opponent you face in the course of any given BioWare game

although it's true that I am not a Loghain fan I have a very low opinion of the habit of inserting a frigging Iliad speech into every death scene because DRAMA

Ahh… Kallian Tabris, the fabled hero of Ferelden.  Still fighting to save your precious home, I see…  But it wears down on you, doesn’t it? Knowing no matter how much you do, the humans will always look down upon you and your people. Do you think it will ever be better? Do you think elves will ever stand beside human as equals?  [laugh] You stopped the blight in Ferelden, saving the world from destruction. And yet, despite all these sacrifices, what have you accomplished? Nothing! Your people still suffer from the same injustices as they always have and nothing will ever change that.

Shianni’s death was your fault, you made her Bann of the alienage during your absence, you made her a target, she died trying to fulfill your vision and she died in vain!

[small pause]

Once I am successful here, I shall tear your Alistair apart, I shall burn your Denerim to the ground… Your failure shall be complete.

[Tabris doesn’t answer back, but looks and sounds clearly distressed]

Bring Shianni up would bring any Tabris to distress.

Ooh, excellent question!

"Canon" Warden Tabris: Nightmare would taunt her over her failure to help the city elves, and feed her terror that conditions would never improve for them. That after all those nobles she killed for hurting her family (Vaughan, Howe, Loghain), she had the chance to crown someone she knew in her gut would be better for her people (Alistair), but chose Anora instead. That now Anora cracks down on the alienage when they riot for food, but ignores the race riots perpetuated against them by humans, and ignores Tabris' pleas as Bann to help them, "proving that much as things change, they remain the same." I think he'd finish by reminding her that she feels she's the one living obstacle keeping human nobles from going back to treating her people exactly as they did before the Blight, but her influence as Hero of Ferelden is fading (since people are forgetting the Wardens now that the Blight is over) and soon she'll expire completely (thanks to the Calling), with no one to pass the torch when she's gone, and the embers of change dying with her.

I always imagined that Tabris, Shianni and Sorris were inseparable during childhood, but that it was Tabris and Shianni that truly had a special bond with each other and when they were young the two of them would always be up to trouble, usually ending up dragging a reluctant Sorris into whatever mess they made.

But yes, the failure to protect Shianni was a sore point for my Warden. And I imagine that her death turned her quite bitter and jaded.

Sarcastic Hawke's line probably is my second favourite rebuttal;

"Well... that's going to grow tiresome quickly"

My Warden would probably end up agreeing with Alistair.

'I've heard better jabs from Morrigan.'

Though the Nightmare demon might taunt her about what she did at the circle tower when she did what Irving told her to do... and betrayed Jowan. She felt it was necessary.

My Cousland on the otherhand... probably wouldn't handle it very well. Probably with a very sound STFU.

The Nightmare's taunt would probably go something like,  "Morrigan's lust for power will kill her, and the boy."

I'm still hoping Shianni dying when she becomes bann is none cannon. Most of the end credits in dao were ignored any way. I see those two the same way you do.

The epilogue is only sometimes ignored. What has always been ignored, however, are the Monarch's Boons, so I doubt that the game will actually acknowledge an elven bann in the first place.
