I've never really been much into the lore aspect of this series, I trigger every book/codex I can though for XP but usually either skim it or completely ignore it. I could google search this but I think it would be educational to post what I think and have people pick apart the points and tell me where I'm wrong. Thanks in advance.

This is how I understand the backstory thus far

Forgotten Ones / Elven Gods
So the forgotten ones were one set of wise beings either the creator of or the controller of the dwarves, who used them as tools to dig/collect lyrium for their constumption/usage. They didn't teach the dwarves any valuable wisdom or treat them like loved ones they were more indifferent to them, you collect our stuff we respect your existance type relationship. So the dwarves are innately driven to dig and collect but not learn, stuck in this tradition because that was their gods way. So the forgotten ones are mainly forgotten because they really didn't provide anything to their people or affect their lives in any great way, they were just there and easily forgotten.
The elven gods I'm gettin more of a sense that they were more or less a bunch of hippies, either created or took care of the elves, more or less sheltered them but cared for them and educated them to a degree. They let them pursue knowledge in their own way but as long as it remained wise so there was some restriction.

Dunno about humans/Qunari I'm assuming they are just a by-product of after the demise of these groups.

Anyway enter Fen'Arel, the red headed step child, who acts indifferently to all because it's not the way he likes it to be. He's not a fan of the forgotten ones because they are basically enslaving their people and he's not a fan of the elven gods because they impose restrictions on their people as well.

At this point I'm assuming the forgotten ones somehow create red lyrium or come across it them begin tormenting their people or something because then the two groups apparently fight. Fen'Arel at this point thinks he knows best for the world and was waiting for a smoking gun to begin so he goes ahead and locks away both sets of gods to both protect the people and to give them the freedom he thinks they desire.

The forgotten ones get sent to the abyss to slumber in void cause of the type of beings they were and the elven gods get sent to the fade to dream in paradise.

Fen'Arel screws up for the first time because now with no restrictions a nation rises(Tevinter) up with the ability to pursue the knowledge so carelessly left around by the elven gods they find their way into the fade, which when Fen'Arel finds out expels them from it with apparent consequences that lead to the blight and everyone thinking he's Andraste because he's the only active god at this time even though he doesn't have their knowledge. He realizes he didn't pay attention to the elven gods enough and didn't share the wisdom of the forgotten ones and he screwed up in his haste so he takes a nap, when he wakes up the world is completely changed and he doesn't understand what to do, nor has the power to do it.
Fen'Arel screws up again and trusts Corypheus. Now the world is on the verge of losing the last remnants of the time of the gods.

And in the last scene when he absorbs Mythal it's because both of them realize it's too late now for any kind of reconciliation so he's just gonna roam around trying to help wrongs that can destroy civilization like the old elven gods were doing in the first place but needs the wisdom in the last god he has access to.

Now most of this if not all like I said is mere opinion based on very light skimmings of my adventures through the series so please point out where I am wrong as it would be nice to know the actual story behind it all. Thanks.
