The Chevaliers will also fight to the death for honor, so they're fearless and brave too....
Basically, the chevaliers, their order, in my opinion is cowardly, especially those who use their position to take advantage of citizens in various ways, even if every last one isn't necessarily a coward. And admitted hyperbole.

I guess they just leave that honor at the door when raping citizens wives and killing alienage elves while under the bottle. They can be bastards all they want, but they've got no honor to speak of.
If they acknowledged that they were dirty dans, I might loathe them a little less.

I understand that many players despise the Chevaliers' actions. Yet for all of the terrible things that the group do (rape, random murder, etc), I can't help but find them extremely fascinating. I really hope that the next game or DLC expands more one them ( perhaps Chevaliers as a special class or perhaps a companion is a current or former member?) Does anyone else agree, or am in the minority here? What are your feelings toward the Chevaliers and do think they can be redeemed in any way? Or why do you think differently?
I think that would be cool but after running a couple DRAGON AGE 2 playthroughs recently I want to enter Teventir to really see if Fenris, Krem and Dorian are right about the mage society. Sure the heirarchy is far more strict and mainly male and how women seem to be treated like crap (I think?) and how slaves are very common or being used as tools of noble possession, mage tools and property and a few other things. Heck even try to be the second person to try and change the rules and try to survive it since the first one who tried was assassinated. Also unlike Orlies assassination is uncommon and is rarely reported.

The same could be said for the simple farmer conscripted to fight in the empire's army. It's all for duty and honor, for king/queen and country. And unless the farmer joined the Chevaliers on their day of alienage mayhem, he's probably more honorable than the lot of them combined.

sure, if you hold them to a different standard of honor than they do themselves
If they adhere to their own code of conduct then they are honorable, it may not match up with modern sensibilities about the subject but that's mostly irrelevant

Fight the good fight! ![]()
The Chevalier order is despicable. If we ever received a chevalier party member, my dalish elf would not hesitate to use the murder knife. (and that would be the first time I'd ever murder knife a character in all the DA games)

Let us not delude ourselves here. They'd probably Jackie Chan your Dalish pc with a blanket like how Michel did in TME.

Now I'm hoping that the Chevalier companion isn't able to be killed in game.
Why do you think there would even be a chevalier companion?

Against a Bioware PC? Hardly.

I would not be so quick to assume better behavior among conscripts or soldiers in Orlais (or any medieval society) simply because the writers have not yet described a tradition of a dark rite of passage for them. The same could be said for the simple farmer conscripted to fight in the empire's army. It's all for duty and honor, for king/queen and country. And unless the farmer joined the Chevaliers on their day of alienage mayhem, he's probably more honorable than the lot of them combined.

it's because of the order's initiation ritual. After having Anders, Isabela, Velanna, Zevran, Blackwall and Loghain as companions another one with a shady past doesn't bother me.Until we have a chevalier companion or really talk to a npc who is one it seems they will always have a bad rep in the eyes of many. If we can have templars in DA2 like ser alik then see templars like ser barras why cant we have a companion or npc chevalier show that they all are not as black or white as we paint them. I am sure there is some chevalier who was like cullen who looked up to them as a kid to protect people like how cullen saw the templars. And that person probably follows the code with honor.

He still did despicable things to be initiated most likely.
My inquis is not merciful against those who've done despicable things like Hawke was. You did it when you could have said "no" and now you most pay. Regret or not.

But unlike the chevaliers, these guys aren't trying to convince anyone that they're honorable.

There's a first time for everything.
Master Li killed the PC in under ten seconds with a single pressure point strike.
I wouldn't be surprised if a Chevalier just pulled a technical skill related victory.

Of course I hold them to a different standard of honor than they do themselves, because their standard of honor is despicable.
Against a Bioware PC? Hardly.
Pft. BioWare's PCs have an unfortunate habit of becoming complete idiots in cutscenes. The chevalier wouldn't be doing anything Kai Leng or the random darkspawn in the Tower of Ishal didn't do.

I just don't see how you can call someone dishonorable when their standard of honor is different than your own, its fine to pass moral judgement on them, that's another matter
