You missed the point. There are some characters in the series who describe the Chevaliers as if they're all d-cks to anyone who isn't a Chevalier or of noble birth. Obviously that isn't the case as Blackwall's story illustrates. Stroud might be another example. No doubt there is a reason why such stereotypes exist, but just because character X says "they're all bad" does not necessarily mean the player should accept that as an absolute in-universe fact.

Dickishness doesn't matter. Mass murder matters.

Are all Chevaliers mass murderers? We don't know that to be the case.

And personally I find it doubtful. Real world people, even when aligned with factions many would deem 'evil,' are often less cartoonishly one note.

Isn't that initiation ritual pretty strongly confirmed?

The existence of a ritual is confirmed.

What isn't confirmed is if it is carried out in the same manner, by every Chevalier, in every corner of Orlais.

Very well. All the chevaliers who do that or something similar are mass murderers, then, including Michel.

On a moral level my problem is that this is apparently a well known enough informal ritual that most people know about it (like the open secret of frat hazing) so if it is limited to that particular chapter of Chevaliers, then the fact that their "brothers/sisters" don't do something to stop them is also pretty morally heinous.

I like the Chevaliers - I think they're very interesting and have a refreshingly practical approach to knighthood (so much potential) - but I can't really "justify" the alienage massacres without engaging with it in the context of a "we don't think elves are really people" mindset. I can understand why it's done, but there's no way it's not terrible.

Hopefully alienages murder ritual will be outlawed in the future. They could celebrate their graduation with just drinks, or if they really need to kill someone/something, they can go hunt Dales Bears (the codex says they are feared even by chevaliers) or darkspawns.

Honestly we do need a unrepentant female romancable Chevalier o.o

With a war braid.

Maybe a few war trophies.

I don't think it terribly likely that Bioware will give you your Ilsa in the next game, alas.

It is vaguely described in the book. Can't say if the Chevaliers just break into houses in the Alienage at random and attack and kill people (how does that not end in City Elf servants inevitably slitting the throats of nobles they serve in a mass uprising?), or if they just go around insulting elves and beating the crap out of whoever dares respond.

Bah in favor of more whiny northerners?

I'd rather have a strong character of tested and true discipline.

Also the accent
