Speaking with Eurogamer.de, The Witcher 3 dev Mateusz Tomaszkiewic (Lead Quest Designer at CD Projekt) spoke about Dragon Age: Inquisition, which has been recently praised with many Game of the Year awards after its successful release.

When prompted by the interviewer, he mentioned his appreciation for the game while also stating that it contains too many fetch quests for his taste:

For my taste, it could do with less fetch quests. But it’s still a good game. Ultimately, it increases the diversity, which can never be wrong with role-playing games.

A very diplomatic answer.

I don't think either dev team wants to get into the Witcher vs. Dragon Age internet [Edited] fight.

Well, he is right about fetch quests..90% of side quests are pointless fetch quests in DAI...

Dying Light has better side quests than DAI.. lol

Interesting, DAI is a good game but hell too many fetch quests , sometimes ii seems to play at fetchville 2014, and yes the whole thing, Gather an army and fight the evil is really played out.

DA games and Witcher series were supposed to be two VERY different beasts. I liked DAO way way better than The Witcher. Then BW seemed to lose its way and CD Projekt found its way. Now I must confess I expect TW3 to outshine DAI on all fronts apart from interesting companions.

In fact IMO the Witcher books are better than DAI books as long as you can get past the slightly middling translations and the fact that Andrzej Sapkaowski seems to be a bit of a jerk.

Edit:

One thing that I know TW3 is doing better than DAI is the Collector's Edition. I can almost see that statue on my above the screen.

Triss and Yeneffer are interesting companions much better than stupid DAI companions like Vivene and Sera....You will also play as Siri in W3 for first time...She is Geralt's daughter..

Some people don't like Witcher games coz it doesn't allow custom character and has too much sex and violence :P

I'm not sure why exactly a Witcher dev saying this was so special it deserved its own thread. Everyone else and their mother thought/said the same exact thing.

imo the fetch quests will only bother those who are completionists. You can manage without almost all of them (and a few are actually interesting). But yeah, if they are taking notes, i'd trade 50 fetch quests for 1 good side quest.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how CDPR deal with it in their game.

I've been playing W2 lately, and enjoy having choices to make in even the most basic side quest.

Kill the troll, or 'cure' the troll, having to search for the other trolls head, instead of blindly following a quest marker is one easy example.

Having option on how to deal with Melana. It's simple but effective quest design.

Please where were you whole time? This entire thread is spammed with "Witcher" threads so why this one shall be exception, don't you see that people in here are just begging for some Witcher topic to start another Witcher thread! So why so surprised!

Haha I can tell you already what will $uck in W3! Once again they will overthrow you decision with Triss and force her on you in W3 like whole thing in W2  never happened! It wouldn't be their first time afterall doing it.

He can say whatever he wants. I, for one, wouldn't touch The Witcher franchise with a ten-foot pole.

Yes, W3 apparently will have a different playable character for a portion of the story and yes, it will be Ciri. But saying she's Geralt's daughter is sort of like saying thay Bianca is Varric's girlfriend.
Anyway, thanks for posting that link. If you manage to read the original interview, the tone of the dev is very polite. Still, I think he shouldn't have given details. The bit about the games being different would have been enough and it would have been better to leave it that way. I don't think they will really manage to have an open world without fetch-quests, also giving the fact that the witcher is a fetcher by profession. And now, if the game has fetch quests, he is bound to be eaten alive.

It is getting rather tiresome, all of this Dragon Age vs. The Witcher stuff. Funny thing is I play and enjoy both franchises, so all of this "either/or" is quite ridiculous to me.

I still don't bloody understand what topics about Witcher are hell doing in here? I'm dying to see on Witcher's forums so many topics unrelated to Wticher like in here that everyone discusses everything but games BW made.

i didnt even finish the witcher 2, the whole time i was somewhat lost in the story, the whole time it felt like F*ck you, you should play the 1st game and figure it out yourself, we are just gonna keep moving forward without bringing you into the loop.... yeah, really didnt like that...  at least dragon age can be picked up and gives you at least a little explanation about the world...  not touching witcher again, until they decide to fix that point and their fanboys come off their high horses

Interesting. Well, admittedly not really. I am playing Inquisition, not Witcher.

Uh nice I guess?

The game could stand to trim the fat but I knew this long before any witcher dev opened his mouth on the matter.

Yeah, all in all, if the style of The Witcher games is something you like, then TW3 is probably going to be much more enjoyable for you than DA:I.

In any case, which company do you like more? EA that tries to squeeze as much money as they can from you through nonsensical DLC's,

or CDPR, that will charge money only for an actual expansion of their game, will actually support their games, and won't rush them out the door half-baked?

Hint: I'm not a masochist. I don't like it when I feel like I am being manipulated by a megacorp.

I know actually. I started reading the books right after I played the first game when it was released.

I still however stand by my preference of DAI companions because Triss, Yennefer, Dandelion, Zoltan...all these companions have a very fixed and defined back story and there's not much Geralt can do in the games to move them from their own respective POVs. They don't really 'follow' Geralt. Nor does their personality develop over the length of the game.

BW's companions though, despite their back stories develop along with the player character. I find that a lot more engaging. Which is also one of the reasons I prefer Cassandra as a companion compared to Solas.

Edit: Also one of the reasons I preferred DA games was because the overall fantasy setting was more appealing somehow. Thedas felt and still feels better than the 'Witcher' world. The latter is a lot grimmer, grittier and dirtier. I guess and that's not really my cup of tea.

Honestly, Inquisition has been incredibly harsh for newcomers as well. The breach itself was clear but for any in depth understanding you had to read the codex, which is something you could do in the Witcher too.

The problem is, I pay 60e for the game. I want to play through everything in the game. For my own peril as DAI has shown. Less quest more content would have worked wonders in this time.
