First off, they didn't "put" the duping glitch in. It's just that, a glitch.
It's their job to fix glitches. As I'm not a part of Bioware (and neither are you, I'm sure) there's no way to know what discussion there was when they decided to patch the glitch or when they chose not to in previous installments. It might be that the duping bug was tied to other, harmful bugs, and fixing duping was a side effect of fixing the other bugs. It could be that they're re-adding a level of difficulty. You'll need to put some forethought into crafting, for instance, saving those dragon materials for the highest level crafting, like the developers no doubt intended when they created the crafting system but only put 10 dragons in the world.
Truth is, they don't have to cater to people who exploit glitches.
Of course they don't have to cater to anyone. They don't have to cater to people asking for more hairstyles, they don't have to cater to people asking for storage chests, or a way to change your looks after the game starts, etc. And they certainly don't have to fix a crafting system that many feel is poor design at best, broken at worst. They also don't have to leave an exploit in a game. Some people feel there is no need to add hairstyles, more clothing options, etc. However, to some these are legitimate concerns and having those things would make their game a better experience.
Unless you just skimmed through the numerous threads on this subject, which honestly, most seem to--then you'd see that there are good reasons why this exploit was useful. If they want to remove it, then okay. But at least look into why the exploit was so popular and listen to what their customers are saying and go from there. As they would and should do for any concerns or suggestions. Personally, at this point, I don't expect Bioware to do anything but listen. Perhaps they are, if so wonderful. Hopefully, they will do something to remedy it.
And you're right. They don't have to cater to anyone period. But I can tell you this. The majority of the people that have bought this game and their past games... appreciated this glitch and are frustrated that it has been removed. Especially since it wasn't hurting or affecting anyone at all.
Also, this. Honestly, I wonder if people would be so "deal with it" if they figured out a way to ban cheat engines and mods because" that isn't the way Bioware intended the game to be played"? I can tell you, there would be a forum mutiny like no one's business up in here.
