Not only do I have automatic downloads turned off in my settings but I am not logged into PSN and I have Origins turned off in game.
Every time I open the game it adds the patch to downloads and I have to close out and delete the download before it's finished.
So is there a way to stop this?

Good question.

Until it can be answered, my PS4 stays unplugged.

Well you can disconnect the wifi but having to turn off the network constantly in between apps is ridiculous. The game shouldn't force you to download it. The software is basically bypassing all of your playstation settings and that is either a bug or is a blatant disregard of Sony policy

Exactly.

I have to fart-arse around with the WiFi enough as it is.

I must admit though, I am getting curious... pre-patch, my DA:I works okay, minor bugs here and there.. crashed once.

I wonder if I'll have problems post-patch, or if that's just a PC curse thing.

The Automatic downloads setting only applies when the PS4 is in Rest Mode.

You're probably right but why if I have PSN and ORIGIN off does it still try to install every time? It should be my choice. If Sony makes a firmware update and I don't want to install it then I just can't use PSN but apparently those same rules don't apply to this particular piece of software.

So I'm guessing there's no way besides turning off my wifi completely?

Uncheck the box in settings that says "Connect to internet". When I uncheck that my PS4 runs offline. I don't have to fiddle with wifi or anything.

Yeah I do that, I shouldn't have to though. I shouldn't have to go back and turn it on if I want to do anything else

You can try unchecking the box Connect to Internet in the settings. I believe it's [Settings]>[Network]>[Connect to Internet].

Anyway, patches are important and are usually a good thing. Why don't you want to download it?

There's a LOT of people who don't want it on consoles due to then removing the dupe exploit since consoles don't have the option to mod

I have screwed around with the settings and found no way to bypass it other than unplugging the internet.  Very annoying at least my 360 would ask me and just log me off if I said no.  Ps4 seems to want to shove the patch down my throat.

Can anyone confirm that PS4 does this for ALL software?

As far as I know, yes. All updates have downloaded onto my PS4 automatically.

The update won't install if you are in-game.

Changing the date to before the patch might make it stop downloading, but that might be worse than have to turn the internet on and off each time you play.

Does the update install automatically? I know it downloads automatically (can't change that i don't think), but not sure if you can turn off/on auto patch installs.

I personally just made 2 new games before the patch and got them to a point where I can get level 20 influence and then duplicated a few items. Started doing that when I found out about the patch as it was released for PC.

Ah alright. I speed ran them, getting to skyhold as soon as possible. Forgot to duplicate dragon mats, but I've already done a nightmare play-through so don't care about top tier items as I'll be playing highest hard (probably mostly normal/casual) for the rest of my playthroughs (unless I decide to do another one in a few months/years, which is unlikely).

Isn't that ridiculous? In order to challenge yourself you have to purposefully play like a casual

You're basically complaining that you can't cheat. Duplicating items to level up has nothing to do with the lack of mod support.

Well, it's less about challenging myself and more about just doing/experiencing different choices of the story. Lower difficulty = faster playthrough. Although, I might increase difficulty if it gets too easy.

You're basically complaining that you can't cheat. Duplicating items to level up has nothing to do with the lack of mod support.

Imo, it's less about cheating and more about wanting a "new game plus" type experience. The lack of one in a single player game that is meant to be played 2+ times means glitching is the only way to shorten grind type gameplay. I don't glitch a lot, didn't even know about it till half way through my second play through, but it's nice to have.

Stay over there in no-cheaters camp.

Nintendo LOST to GameGenie in the 80's and actually WON $15,000,000.00 in a counter.

Rule of law, it's perfectly LEGAL to cheat or mod or whatever you want to call it because let's face it, if you know a SINGLE modders who hasn't used it to cheat I'll give you a dollar on PayPal. Oh wait...a mod IS a cheat...called CHEAT engine!

Picking flowers and mining for materials just isn't that fun for some of us. And for me it isn't even quite that simple ... my first playthrough I actually had fun gathering materials and figuring out where new ones were located and seeing what their effects in crafting would be. However, I'm in my 4th run of the game now and I'm really not enjoying material gathering.

I did a nightmare run already though and I'm currently just playing on casual, so I don't need top tier gear and I don't even go out of my way for the best stuff now. I don't do assrariums anymore, or shard hunting anymore.

(sigh)

I understand the case you are making because of your other thread for those grumbling about the exploit being addressed by BioWare.

Patches on console are designed to download automatically to give everyone the benefits of improvements.

Finding ways to stop that is only going to prevent access to future patches, future DLC and multiplayer altogether.

This does seem to me to be fairly trivial grounds for a big protest and rather unproductive to boot...

If a gamer doesn't know how to check for updates then I feel sorry for them. Why is there even on option to check for current updates on games if it simply downloads automatically?

That is all well and good... provided the patches actually do what they're supposed to do. ;)

My point is that you are not actually modding anything by taking advantage of a glitch. The lack of mod support on consoles is a separate issue, and quite frankly, a trivial one that console gamers seldom bring up anymore because by now they are aware that consoles aren't designed for mod support. All you want is the continued existence of a glitch that lets you cheat. There is no modding involved.

If a gamer doesn't know how to check for updates then I feel sorry for them. Why is there even on option to check for current updates on games if it simply downloads automatically?

The option exists to let users manually check for updates instead of relying entirely on an automatic process. Virtually every computer program under the sun lets you do this.
