If companies would just stick to their niche, and keep makign what theyr good at, and stop trying what other companies do well, games would be great! We obviousluy enjoy trial and error (souls series, i personally hate it) but obviously people want harder games.. Thinkers.. Morrowind, Baldurs Gate, etc. these games took time.. You had to read, talk to, remember, and understand what was happening, and we STILL enjoy thse old games.. They are what is FUN! Skyrims idea of puzzle, was to put the answers right behind the friggin puzzle>?!?! In morrowind, you would have to keep notes, and remember hidden details in random notes/books.. You could fail! You could kill an essential npc, and be unable to progress in that specific chain! By entering one faction, or even speaking too, you would lose access to others! This added depth, and huge replayability.. Decade later, people are STILL PLAYING IT! This is what we want.. Unfortunately, its not "everyone" going to buy it.. But those dedicated, loving fans, are clamoring for it! Please let Witcher 3 be as good as it should be.. Divinity, wwas also a good entry, and awesome game! We want mroe like these! I personally dont like souls because its fake difficulty.. Most people just go online to read the right way anyway.. Dieing over and over to learn a mechanic is not skill.. Its infuriating!
EA feels their games are too hard

So... here we go again. Jesus, it seems I write about this subject every week now. I agree with what you say, but I have one question: You're saying that the depth of those old games is NOOT what gamers want today. How do you know this ? What makes you think that they would protest if they get something that puts their brains to work a little, just a little. If they stopped making these soulless games just for a quick buck, they would be making twice the money they are making now. Why ? Because regardless of how dumb EA thinks we are, we still want things to challenge us.. this I guarantee you, but it's probably easier for them to make these simplistic games. The money is what matters in the end, right ?
You are right about Morrowind.. and replaying it with Skyrim's engine will be godsent for those who enjoyed that game.

You do realize im saying we DO want harder games, right? Did you read the whole thing? The companies seem to think that dumbing them down, appeals to a wider audience.. Its not opinion...

Shareholders are inevitably going to hire suits to run their business. These suits tend to know more about how to sell themselves on Wall Street and less about video games.
And that's why EA is what it is today. Worst company of the year award how many times?
Suits usually end up either running their business into the ground or trying to follow the trends of those that found their corporations like Gabe Newell.

I didn't think this was possible but you created a competition of what's the greatest gif ever, and win it all at the same time.
If you play on Asylum Life at all, i'll have you 1 mil dollars.

Morrowind,
What Morrowind did best, better than any game I've encountered so far, was the outlandish atmosphere and the story. Yeah, nobody play ES games for the story, but the main plot in Morrowind with the Gods was intriguing and haunting. In Oblivion it went all back to generic medieval fantasy.

Taken way out of context and blown out of proportion, as normal on the nerds paradise known as an RPG's game forums.
Easy to learn, hard to master. An AGE old concept, that works.

Like any of these games were ever that difficult to begin with....
I was talking about the article. His point is that games should be easy to pick up and play, but hard to master.
Morrowind is some sort of high water mark for single player RPG difficulty now? Are you sure that just isn't nostalgia talking? In the first 15 minutes of that game you could become a god.....

They weren't difficult if you actually made an effort to understand the system and mechanics etc. How the gameworld works. None of that in DA:I. Just cast barrier and button mash.
The Morrowind bit you mention is an exploit the developers didn't intend. It also doesn't diminish the roleplaying factor of the game at all. Roleplaying isn't all about combat, as you may know.

This is actually exactly what happened to Origin (the Bioware of the 80s\90s) after EA forced a takeover. The Ultima games were pretty much DA:O, but after EA took over they added more and more action elements, and even jumping puzzles (sound familiar?), and removed more and more rp elements. They rushed out half-done games in order to milk every drop out of a solid franchise, just like they are doing now.
EA's next DRM will be called Bioware, not Origin.

My response was directed at your corny "easy to learn, hard to master", not games discussed in previous posts.
As for Morrowind, it is basically linear action-adventure, hack and slash with interesting mechanics, and unique atmosphere. I use the term "hack and slash" to describe everything that has no tactical, classical top-down view, turn based, combat, this term is a really big box. It is a derogatory term, but it is not correlated in any way with terms like "RPG" or "interesting mechanics".
DA:O is a linear tactical RPG with uninteresting mechanics and unique redesign of a familiar setting.
DA2 is a linear tactical RPG with uninteresting mechanics, unique, time-driven story design, and painfully short development.
DA:I is hack and slash with almost non-existant RPG elements, overused setting, cliche story design, and uninteresting mechanics.
If that is the future of games, I wish I was not a gamer.
Witcher is hack and slash, non-linear RPG with interesting mechanics and sh..tload of sexual content I find offensive and disgusting.

So do you find movies and literature with sex disgusting also? Are you offended that people in the world are having sex right now?
Seems like a lot of women don't mind .
Going back to topic , you can be mediocre and still achieve the highest difficulty in this game because your not competitng vs anyone , its not like nightmare is anywhere close to dark souls type difficulty either

I don't mind the sex but I'm a Perv. I can see it bothering some. I do agree with him on every other point though.

Funny goof; EA wanted to acquire Valve some years ago. Based Lord Gaben told them to get out.

Reminds me of that movie Bubba Ho-Tep. Where the mummy sucks the souls out of people's backsides. Thankfully Bruce Campbell (as Elvis) and Ozzie Davies saved the day.

well they have been forwarned then , you can't really omplain about sex in a game when the makers have made it known well in advance.
Don't like witcher because of the sex scenes ? Don't buy it. meanwhile i'l play it and enjoy it as an adult. Its a moot point in saying its bad because it targets men because targeting a demographic has always been part of buisness models , same as 50 shades of grey mainly targets women. Should we burn that book?

Not nostalgia.... It had that atmosphere. When you first stepped out of the boat and the game said that "you're on your own now, good luck" you literally felt like what the f**k am I going to do now. SInce we had no fast travel, you actually had to speak to people to find out where Balmora is and always follow the markings on the road so that you don't get lost. Also, you had to learn and adapt to the world in order to survive. For some people this was overwhelming. I recommended it to one of my friends and he ditched the game after 20 minutes. He said that it was too much for him cause he had no clue what to do and where to go. So, in a sense these companies might be right about gamers wanting simple button mashing things... ![]()
I doesn't matter that I finished KOTOR1, 2 a zillion of times. When I replay it, I always feel motivated to go on because those games had that kind of atmosphere. They just suck you in. This is exactly what modern games fail terribly at(not all of them).
Bioware tried to create an atmosphere for DAI, but it didn't quite work out...They were close though because the game has some good moments.
