...so no, if you are a creator of art, your best option for maintaining your integrity and self-preservation is to stay as far away from comment sections and forums as possible...

This is largely true, but what is the point of having a feedback and suggestions subforum if they are just going to leave it with no input or interactions - it just feels like its being left to rot.

When I was chatting to one of the DA Facebook team, they asked what I liked about the game and were actually shocked when I said that I didn't play the multiplayer and had no intention of doing so - strangely enough, the conversation died after that.

I think they've got their instructions to focus on the MP, and that's what they're doing - even to the detriment of the SP crowd who have made up the bulk of their fanbase for so long.

I decided to delurke 'cause of the as usual assumtion that people complaining are filling the forum with toxicity.

Good job nobody is saying that. Nobody thinks people shouldn't be allowed to complain about bugs, or what they think was wrong with the game. That's completely different to being toxic and hurling abuse and nobody has claimed otherwise.

Abyss, as my experience as mainly a reader/lurker with this forum goes, anytime time toxicity is mentioned s to indicate excessive criticism towards one of the games or infighting between the pro and cons factions with regards to aspects of the game/story.

We old gens people have been having serious problems with the game and some posters have tried to highjack the thread earlier in its life labelling us also as toxic. That's maybe why I may have mis-interpreted some of the comments in here and I apologised for that, but after reading thread after thread both here and the other sections of the forum asking for some sort of communication from the devs and seeing people justifying their absence with (paraphrasing) "gosh, why would they want to do that, is too much of a toxic environment for them", well, maybe, just maybe, I got a bit harsh and started examining their behaviour on all fronts.

As it has been said before the internet is full of rude and chilidish trolls but why should we all pay for them? I thought that it is the reason why lenghty and perma bans exhists on this forum as well as many other social platforms.

When I'm uncertain whether I want to buy a game or not, I like to go the developer's forums.  I look at the Tech support and feedback sections to see what kind of problems people are having with a game.  I like to see if the same thing gets mentioned a lot, and if it is the kind of  problem which would bother me.  Then I look at what kind of response the developer is giving to the issues.  If the developer is arrogant, condescending, dismissive of their customers, or just plain doesn't answer at all, it is a giant red flag.  I can tell you that there are a number of games which initially interested me which I decided to pass on because of what was said and not said on the developer's forums.  I doubt if I'm unique, EA can do a lot of damage to their future sales by ignoring their own forums.

Hopefully we can stay civil in our discussions once things calm down (fingers crossed)

Considering I bought a game, not a monopoly on the devs time, no, I don't think I have the right to demand their eternal attention on a game forum. That's incredably entitled. When I buy a movie, I don't demand the director and all the actors reply to my criticisms of the performance.

Guess what, for every other game I play, the game devs don't post at all. Bioware does a lot more than most. Its their job to make a game, not to subject themselves to abuse.

Furthermore, posting would probably make things worse. There are some ridiculous requests on the forum and if Bioware posted the fact that they weren't going to implement some of them people would scream and rave about how Bioware doesn't care and is ignoring their fans and its a disgrace. Even if it was something only about 10 people wanted, or it would be a years development.

I think it can become a problem if someone bought a game and it doesn't work

Yes, but being honest about your opinions isn't the same as hurling abuse at the developers or being toxic. Disliking Inquisition and posting the reasons why (like you did) isn't a problem, it's only a problem when people start throwing personal insults at those that disagree. Which I think is why the Devs don't post here more. Not because some people don't like the game, but because those people will start hurling abuse at them.

Stuff like that probably won't happen. Even if the devs downright lied about the game they were selling their customers. I dunno about you, but lying to someone's face to get them to give you money is pretty damn insulting on its own.

Not to mention that some of the devs don't really set a good example in discussions with their fans. Some of the stuff I've seen there (and it's relatively little since I don't use twitter or facebook, which seems to be the place they hang out in) made my blood boil for the haughty, dismissive style they employed.

I got called a liar, homophobe, and a bigot, by one of them in PM. that has happened several times, actually. Even though I am all for having gay romances in the game. Go figure.

I don't agree with the gay thing but its everyones right to live their lives with their moral free will and choices.

In DAI, having characters that are primarily straight, bi, gay and transgender is part of that spectrum and how you chose to interact.

DAI was primarily written for PC.......best rpg and game of the year.......NOT.

Taking away many features older games had and dumbing it down, simplifing it even more, hmmmmm and no storage chest to boot.

DAO was only 5 years ago......not an old gen gamer if you ask me.

It dosen't come as a surprise as we all have seen how they shifted the blame to a number of BSNers for what had happened in the DAMP section of the forum.

Developers are active on the multiplayer forum.

Oh yeah... this game has a multiplayer...

Does anyone seriously ever use that?

Developers do come out in threads that are civil, I've seen them.

Developers have been abused, insulted and had anger hurled at them that defies belief

including that their jobs be on the line and that physical harm come to them.

If you think some threads are bad, I've seen comments made before the mods deleted them

and I hope perma-banned their posters. You may have seen some of those too.

What I am sure of is that devs do read the threads, because they have said as much.

So for 'issues' like the Dupe exploit, text chat on PC, pyjamas, longer hair etc. etc.

The devs are well aware of those points.

Whether they address them at all will fall in line with their plans, but they do know what some people want.

That some people want those things is no guarantee that most people do, as BSN can be polarising.

Finally, BioWare have an increasingly fortress policy of 'do, not tell' and I can understand why they got there.

We still have whining posts about the Crestwood pre-alpha closed demo and DAI not delivering what was 'promised'.

We have threads about what Aaryn Flynn 'really meant' when he recently said DA and ME were different.

I expect BioWare will only talk about what is ready to be announced and what is released, and I don't think that's going to change.

You know it's sad when you spend more time on the boards than you are enjoying the games, because patches ruined some exploit for you or that there aren't enough stuff to play with in the game for people who like spending hundreds and hundreds of hours with the same characters in games like Skyrim. There's a lot of stuff to collect in DAI, but not enough mob to kill after a certain amount of hours. Everything feels so empty and I wish there would be more respawns of monsters at your character's level.

Frankly, I believe there are very strict rules about how you can address your customers and how you cannot as part of EA. I remember there was some EA Sports ex-employee two years ago who had a meltdown in twitter, criticizing EA for being "by-the-numbers" and not seeing games as art and stuff despite having friendly faces. What was relevant was that I believe he also revealed that prior to his departure he had been told to stop using his twitter as much as he used to due to negative attention and potentially hurting his or EA's reputation when talking to fans the way he did.

Explains why Bioware consistently has been denying all the mistakes that we think they've made along the way. It explains why they never properly addressed the Mass Effect 3 ending by hearing fans out and explaining what was what in detail and it explains why they are avoiding you for whatever legit criticism you have on DAI.

I think Bioware cares a lot though. Consumer perception of their products is something they have to listen to, and trust me they do. There are simply some restrictions to what they can and cannot do about the feedback they see.

Efficient way to lose a costumer

If they did this to me I would never buy another Bioware game again

Even if they think that, you shouldn't say that to someone who probably supported your ****** ass and even bought your game

The way this forum is moderated, the way BioWare employees interact with us and lack of response make me feel decidedly unwelcome in this forum.

SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS VIA DISCUSSION TREADS DOES NOT WORK:  This folder is chaotic.   "Feedback" is listing problems, wish lists for new things, discussion of other games etc, true game feedback, developer abuse etc.  It is completely unrealistic to expect effective problem resolution via this format and that IMO is the heart of the problem.  Bioware and EA need a transparent and  formal problem submission process.  Current methodology fails because:

1.  Unsolicited unrelated opinions clutter up problem description threads and are labor intensive for developers to weed through.

2.  Lack of Bioware statement of awareness makes people angry.  We know all cannot be solved but we need to see that some is being worked on.

3.  Informal means of describing issues inadvertently lead to players leaving out a lot of key facts that make problem investigation much faster.   The bug complaints currently posted often provide next to no details surrounding the problem event.  This is a big problem.  It equates to "my car is making a weird noise"  One of the first things done during software bug resolution is to see if the developers can duplicate the event.  That helps gets the to the heart of the code that might be problematic.  It is next to impossible to duplicate events if sufficient detail including not only the event itself, but also the platform being used and where in the storyline it occurs around is not left

Bioware needs to add a new tab to this forum called KNOWN Reported Problems.  The tab contain would ONLY locked threads which are only entered by Bioware/EA developers.

- Problems could be tagged.  Users can see what is a known issue, what is "Under investigation", "Closed, unable to replicate", "Solved"  etc.  This would be a simple way for players to see that the issue they have is being worked on.

People are distressed that they are having issues and are freaking out that know one seems to know about them in Bioware/EA land due to the lack of acknowledgement.  Bioware certainly does not have the resources do deal with every single voice ranting in this forum.  This little bit of effort on their part will at least give some rudimentary information to players while at the same time keeping support costs reasonable.  They also maintain control of what is posted as a known problem>  Doing that allows means to protect image win for them and means to keep it all organized-win for us.

You could go one step further to allow players to feel their personal voice is heard.    You could add a "me too" tab to these locked threads where players that have the issue can click it. This would alert the developers to how many people are having the issue.   I would also suggest a formal submit a problem for investigation form.  It would have required fields to assure that only those that actually have the game are submitting problems.

Bioware, software support is not fun, I get it.  However,  the fastest way to ****** people off is to make them think that they bought a buggy game and that the game devlopers have their hands over their ears saying la la la la la about the reported bug.

There will never be a cost effective, user friendly way for you to make people happy via the current complain via forum, format.  However you would decrease a heck of a lot of bitching by simply posting a list of some of the top reported issues that you are aware of and what you think is causing them (or whether you are still investigating). whether user workarounds exist, and whether patches are being planned or not planned at this time.  Make that issue page searchable.  Done.  Knowledge empowers and decreases angst and doing this would go a long way to satisfying the reasonable.

It can be very simple:

Example:

Problem Reported:  Loss of Cullen: Skyhold

Problem related to: Under Investigation:

Avoid this problem by:  Complete Cullen quest PRIOR to starting Sera prank quest

Resolve this problem by: Revert to save that occurs before Sera prank started?

Patch resolution planned:  Not known at this time.

No... that usually means you've played the interest life out of the game. Time to put it up and go onto something else.

*snip*

That would be a good idea, but it'd be time consuming. *shrugs* It'd depend on the cost/benefit analysis which only BioWare can really determine.

@Linkenski

So they can lie to us paying customers outright about some of what was to be in game then use the "that was an alpha or beta" line

To sell their product its alright to lie? But we cant express how we feel when BW wont so much as come on the froums to give us an update/answers?

@Sofajockey

Just because they say they read the threads doesnt mean they do

Cost is dirt cheap.  About 2 hours of support a week.

Benefits are good PR and partial diffusal of the long list of complaints here.  That is worth a heck of a lot more than their cost would be.

*puppy eyes* But I don't wanna end the game...

Seriously though, I want to do multiple playthroughs, but at this rate the farming in this game will cause me a huge problem. I hope the RNG will get better through patching and that they will add more stuff to interact with through SP dlcs because right now, like the rest of the fans who finished the game, I'm either here complaining about the lack of stuff in the game or the fact I can't play it because some patch broke a bunch of stuff for them. Don't mind me while I keep rolling my thumbs and wish there was more DA: Inquisition to play... as it's the biggest compliment I could give to BioWare right now. I love the game and I want more of it.
