Why are crafted items so worthless?

I don't understand the philosophy behind DA:I's economy. For example, I can make more gold selling raw materials than from crafting and selling items made from those materials. Why are crafted items worthless? This is a perfectly valid way to accrue gold within a game's economy, and would encourage players to take the time to leverage the crafting system.

I enjoy the game overall, but this facet of gameplay is extremely frustrating. I'm the leader of the Inquisition, yet I have to farm snouffleurs to earn enough gold to buy decent crafting schematics. I don't expect to be awash in funds, but I shouldn't have to run in circles on the ice slaughtering adorable creatures to make enough money to craft level-appropriate armor and weapons.

Crafted items are often superior to looted or purchased items, and yet they sell for low prices.

I don't get it, either.

They seriously need to rethink how the pricing is done for player crafted items - you can make armors that make you nearly invincible - pawn stars - I'll give you 86 gold... really?

I presume they didn't want to make looted gold irrelevant. I'm not sure this is the way, though.

There is no thought behind their products anymore.. Even the power of any crafted item trivializes any Historical God item.. Something youve only read about in myths, legend, and codex.. Suddenly, you obtain one, and realize, its weaker than something you crafted 5-10 levels ago!

Theres no thought/effort in any aspect of the game..

Same for the pricing of said God item...vendors for the same as any old rarity..

I crafted a set of armor that gave me a 99% fire resistance. I wouldn't say that is bad in the least bit. I would say when you have better mats that it gets better stats for sure. Especially if you can pull off a master work. That being said, i'd like to loot some damn gear that doesn't look like ass and is gray :/

I'm guessing the problem is that you could blow the games economy out of the water since you can craft such good stuff it puts legendary items to shame. So much for legends -- of course since some spare merchant has the weapins of myth and legend it has already taken the air of the sails of that one.

The odd problem here is that money buys things. Crafting already makes most things you can buy worthless -- so money to buy items is pointless. The only thing you can't craft are treaties to get more inquisition influence but since you already have access to more power than you know what to do with there is no reason to keep buying more power either. Money effectively has no real value in the game overall.

Legendary gear mostly has bonus stats you can't put onto crafted gear, thusly it costs more.

..and crafted items have things legendary doesn't have. Between masterworks and upgrades and runes I've never felt like anything in the purple category is better- or usually equal - to something I can craft. The only exception being helmets where there seems to be a dearth of high end schematics and everyone is running around in Orleasians Masks -- which is also silly.

I find the crafted armor is better than the crap I am finding. I've seen various complaints about the schematic drops being ridiculously rigged, though, I completely agree. I am a DW Rogue, and the only descent things I find are for Warriors. Its really getting stupid.

IMO, if they weren't low then it'd be an easily exploitable system due to the fact that some Rare Teir 3 materials can be easily stockpiled and obtained.

Dales Lamb Wool, Sounfluers, Wyvern hide, Dawnstone just to name afew

Aside some Dales Lamb Wool I really doubt the others are in high usage from $hit brown and green to pink? I'm sittng on 100+ for each one I've named

Build enough throwaway gear to sell from these and easy payday. Just my thoughts on this

I don't see how that's a problem.  Worrying about exploits (which aren't even a problem in single-player games) isn't worth the loss of setting coherence.

The best armor, weapons and shields are crafted, only some helmets are better looted (like Sidney said). You can find some niche use for looted weapons, but overall crafted items are superior, especially armor.

I also don't really get why my uber longbow crafted from dragon materials is sold for 2 gold. At least the same price as the individual components summed up would be nice. I don't need to make a profit from crafting (like in DAO:A by crafting runes), but this just doesn't make any sense.

I would be good with reverse engn to regain some materials, or by increasing the amts based on perks. But the current system feels wrong somehow when I sell a prized craft for a pittance simply because I am unable to store it properly.

And why does the in game economy matter two hoots in single player? So you stockpile, craft 'til the cows, halla and, dathrasi come home, have 1 mil gold. Does it matter if that makes you happy?

True but if it were that easy then it'd be added to list of mundance/nitpicky complaints trust me :)

From earning cash to RNG loot pick ups, its all by design to be tediously hard to earn but if can buy that 20,000 piece of gear with your pocket change it eliminates the value of having it I suppose was the original thought of the devs

Why have an economy in the game in the first place, am I right? We could finish the game without allocating all those pesky attribute points, next time we will get by without economy. EA would approve.

The whole game is poorly thought out...

Too explain i just had a war table quest to get news from the hero of ferelden which took almost 15 hours to complete.... 15 real world hours and he sends me a blue belt

Holy god man i so needed another blue belt after waiting that long...

Except you can.. i had a long list of Mastrewworks items, and every single one of  them were things from Legendary items..  178 hr play through, i finished 100%  except for the 2nd half of Hissing wastes, and Western Approach 2nd half.. Not once did i see an effect i couldnt make myself.  Sad right?

My likes are out  :(

If money has no real value, then what stops us from blowing the economy out of the water? It's not working properly either way, so how about changing it to be skewed towards the player?

Btw... I'm not sure we can call it an economy in the first place. The merchants ingame have unlimited gold right from the start and no one but you is doing any trading...

I wouldn't mind making a profit off crafting. It would certainly beat farming snouffleurs just to get enough gold to buy some tier 3 superior schematics.

But see that's the problem. I have no issue with scaling the difficulty of earning gold -- I don't want it to be easy -- but why is the game designed so that legitimate means for deliberately earning gold when you need it are hobbled? My only options are random gold drops and mat farming. Want that superior tier 3 armor schematic? No problem! Just go run in circles and kill several hundred snouffleurs! Hey -- it's what any self-respecting inquisitor would do; there's no shame in it!

No wonder people want so badly to edit their save files. At least then they can develop a headcanon that says they inherited that 100,000g from a long-lost branch of the Trevelyan family.

"Oh, the amazing armor? That's just a hobby -- a charity, really. Here, take it. No, really -- just take it."

Bottom line: I should, if I choose, be able to spend an hour (or two, or ten) crafting weapons and selling them to earn gold instead of running in circles killing creatures and selling their skins. I'm guessing quite a few players would pick the former over the latter. It's the difference between meaningful activity and tedious excise. This is a role-playing game after all.

Isn't it?

Bioware, and most games, have awful economies. I mean who is buying the crap we loot anyways..."hey Bob I've got this cheap suit of armor smeared with blood and gore from the guy who exploded inside it, how about 50?" Supply and demand doesn't exist because they willingly buy anything despite, as you said, there being no other real buyers for anything like this -- maybe I'm wrong and there are scads of other adventurers in Skyhold.

I remember 2 effects on weapons I couldn't find the masterwork fade-touched materials for: http://dragonage.wik..._of_the_Griffonand http://dragonage.wik...i/Sulevin_Blade . They are great weapons (among the very best), but the effect on them is not so great.

Hey, I was pushing for that in ME. Why isn't Shepard just putting everything on an Alliance expense account, or TIM's AmEx Eezo card? ME1 was OK, since it's apparently a plot point that Spectres are supposed to be financially independent -- though that sounds like they're just asking for corruption.
