Thunderdome challenge is open. You'll have trouble getting kills in my game with immolate. Pony up!

there are other variables like bonuses that could give you that boost that you need.

Don't be shy. Share and explain how to do those other bonuses for everyone.

Sorry for the ambiguity. The issue isn't with your build. It's the poster who comes into EVERY build thread with criticism, probably because no one cares about his build thread.

The discussion was regarding Fire Wall. I didn't even refer to Immolate specifically. I was pointing out that the poster I was responding to claimed that Fire Wall was useless because everything died so fast. I simply doubted that he/she plays on Perilous, and Drasca's post above explains why.

It's funny I played a Perilous match with another elementalist who had firewall. He was a higher level than I was, and I did better. Want to know why? because he wasted his time with firewall.  I'm sorry but i'm not taking a skill just to apply to a zone 5 choke point.  Immolate is a much better attack by far and it's no contest.  This is all assuming that you know how to use it.  Once you master it you will NEVER go back to firewall.  When I see an elementalist with firewall I know they are a beginner.

I should make a youtube video on how to use an elementalist, but then again I kinda don't want to give out my secrets, lol

Hey now, don't be bringing every ele into this argument. I use firewall on occassion and I'm damn efficient.

If you join a map and see Hellbiter running around walling off baddies so I can revive my teammates, know that you just got served XD

Nothing but respect to the team player that revives teamates.  I have a barrier and even use 50% boost. If you are rolling with me you will have a barrier before every battle.

I'm usually the team medic, as well. Even when I don't want to be. I'm usually well protected by standing on my own chaotic fire mine and throwing around firestorms like crazy.

I agree but I would replace fade cloak with immolate.  I am very fast at placing mines and immolate because this is my primary play style in all three dragonage games. Unfortunately a skilled elementalist is useless in a game with a skilled AW.

OMFG dude, does everything you post now, have AW hatred in it?!?!  I've read several posts of yours today and every last one has you shedding tears about AW.

On topic: I do love immolate, although I know many people talk down about it. It seems like it's always off cd and is such a fast, convenient aoe; and the auto targeting (unless you're on stairs) is great.  I don't like running all fire spells though, because there are times when you can feel pretty gimp in perilous with multiple fire demons beating on you.  Stonefist is fast and fun.  Has anyone tried lightning bolt?  I never even tried it in SP, but it would be nice to have more of an elemental mix in your quiver rather than just fire.  And while we're talking about mixing it up, why the heck don't any of the frost spells actually do real damage?!  How awesome would it be to have the ice-plasma-beam like the despair demon?!

I'm on the fence with chaotic focus. I don't want my barrier to be chewed up if it's not absolutely worth it. What do you think?

I stayed away from chaotic focus for a long time, but the damage increase that I discovered it does for fire mine is miraculous. You can get on the upshot of 6000-something damage for one mine, equipping a semi-decent staff. A fully-upgraded barrier with strength of spirits (I think) increases this damage. Combine that with the elementalist's constant cooldown refreshers, and his death siphon + firestorm ability, and you've got a serious scene on your hands.

Think of it like this... when I fight Red Templar Commander, I stay a moderate distance away, out of the range of archer's and things, and I throw a barrier on myself. Right away, I lay down a chaotic firemine underneath RTC. This detonates, doing massive damage and probably giving me a flashpoint. I use the flashpoint to spam firestorm on archers and other mobs coming through the choke point. This supplies me with a wealth of health and mana for awhile. I then begin laying down chaotic mines under RTC and ideally with flashpoint. 3-4 mines and RTC is already at or below half health. Run around a bit, rinse and repeat. This was on perilous.

I tried it once in multiplayer. Have no desire to try again and that killed the build and I had to promote asap. You are better off just auto-attacking with your staff as it would do way more damage. Like 10 times more. I think it does less damage than chain lightning on a single target except that CL hits multiple targets.

Thanks for the tip. Couldnt hurt to try it.

+1

I usually run Fade Step/Immolate (chaotic focus)/Stone Fist/Barrier.  With all the cooldowns going on these two abilities  (Im + SF) work nicely off each other.

As for that Despair Demon, I would love to frost the mf right back.  I usually wait behind cover until he's finished that cold spell (depending on character), then go get 'im.

If you only knew the glory of FW --> CFM, you wouldn't wait. They're panicked and immobilized, then finished off by the FM. DD's just die. Immo + FS are trash in comparison.

I have used FW before and it is awesome.  Not big on mines, but I do see your point about CFM.

fire mine is pretty much the one constant in every single build for my ele. Sometimes I even sacrifice firewall for it. It's just immensely powerful, has a decent cooldown esp. w/ equipment and passives, has an instant cast-time and can be used offensively, defensively and as cc (although obviously Firestorm and FW take the crown here).

You can use FM in just about any build. You can stand on it and fade step away for bonus damage if mobs get too close. It pretty much KOs revanents, arcane horrors, pride demons and especially despair demons if you place it before someone melees or before they move. It's a great addition to any choke point. AND it's the single best ability in the kit for stealing kills from AW's PotA. And as if that wasn't enough--you can empower it with chaotic focus for even moar damage. PLUS when upgraded, it deals heavy burn damage over time.

It is my favorite nuke.
