...the protagonist for DA4 was from Tevinter? Hear me out. Even if you're not a fan of the Imperium, you could RP your character as being like Dorian or even more hateful of Tevinter than Dorian is.

Bioware could also bring back origin stories if they go this way. Check it out:

Human Warriors and Rogues - Members of the Imperial Legion.

Human Mages - High-born Altus mage whose parents aspire for him/her to become the next Archon or high-ranking Magister. Bioware could also make the protag a Laetans mage, which are like the commoners of mages in the Imperium.

Elven Warriors and Rogues - Slaves to a Magister.

Elven Mages - Born in slavery but they were elevated to the status of Laetans mage. Have to deal with the prejudice and discrimination that comes from their race.

Dwarves  - Members of the Dwarven Merchant's Guild who trade lyrium to the Imperium. Could be from Kal-Sharok instead of Orzammar.

Qunari - Born under the Qun and sent to Seheron to fight Tevinter forces but eventually become Tal-Vashoth (or not, up to BioWare, would be interesting to play a Qunari that never leaves the Qun, although that wouldn't work as well for a mage Qunari).

So, what do you think?

For some reason actually I do find elven side of story most appealing simply because it would be something like elf from alienage in DAO that in my opinion had best and most sad background story.

Agreed.

I especially like the idea about the elf being a slave. I think there is a lot of untapped potential there, insofar as the narrative goes.

I'd like the next game to centre around a slave rebellion in Tevinter.

Coupled with a later Qunari invasion.

That would be cool, but don't most of the Chasind or Avvar live in Ferelden? I don't see that as being very likely unless we get another game primarily set in Ferelden. Also, sadly, the developers wanted to do a barbarian origin for DA:O, but they scrapped it.

Dwarves are more than merchants in Tevinter. Plus, playing a tainted Kal-Sharok dwarf would be interesting.

Imagine if we get to meet Sten.

As a rebellious elf, we could enlist in the Arishok's army. As a Magister, Altus or some other proud citizen, there'd be some intense antagonism between the qunari and the tevinter, leading to some cool dialog and scenes.

I really want them to bring back the race specific back stories and them being class based on top would be cool as well. So long as you had several quests for each class/race combo through out the game, that way the choice you made has some real impact and meaning.

Me too. Origins was one of my favorite parts of DA:O. I think there is a lot of potential for awesome origin stories if the game goes north to Tevinter and Seheron.

I really would like that but I'm not holding my breath.

I think not having even a small segment of pre-Temple explosion based on your race/background in Inquisition was a missed opportunity.

As we're supposed to be moving north anyway I support this idea. However, to pull this off they really need to make the PC feel like they're from Tevinter. I felt no real difference between the PCs of the last three games, they could have all been from Blandlandia for all I know, my Hawke and Trevelyan might as well have been brothers

I think the OP's suggestions are very interesting.

I don't know if it would be difficult to implement, but it would be nice if a DA game let us play initially through all the companions origins before everyone gather together, like in some Wild Arms games.

It would be cool to have human mage be the nobles with the titles and such for once while human warrior/rogue are now the odd person out. The elf story would be cool to. And dwarves seem to be held higher then elves in that area so that would be some cool dwarf stuff to. Qunari PCs I feel are doomed to only be Tal-Vashoth or eventually becoming such. Thats what I like about the north in Thedas it is a breath of fresh air in the series because the system there is different and not yet explored by us the players.

My slaves, where are my slaves?

Also, what language do they speak in Tevinter? Something akin to Latin (Amatus, Altus, Magister, etc)?

Also², lots of gay sex. Relations between men is pretty normal there.

The official language of Tevinter is "Tevene", which is basically Latin.

There's also Ancient Tevene, which is a completely dead language, save for the use of words like "Maleficar" and "Dweomer".

I know. I think it would be really awesome for the mage class to be from the noble family this time around. And dwarves are held in higher esteem in Tevinter because of the lyrium trade. Dwarves are never made slaves (at least, not usually, another reason for Tevinter to despise the Venatori as there is a war table mission I believe where Venatori agents capture dwarves to use as slaves) for that reason. Tevinter doesn't want to offend their valued suppliers. I think it would be awesome if we could play as Qunari who never left the Qun, but I think it would be really difficult to implement, hence the always resorting to Tal-Vashoth.

I think this could be fun. My understanding is that the origin stories were used to introduce us to Thedas, but the North is significantly different from the South, and after DAI, the South is quite different, too. Having an origin story is so much better than just being given a background in text. It affects your perception in a positive way, I think.

Nope. I can't stand being from Tevinter... but since I won't play the next game... well **** it, whatever you want. Sad Inquisition didn't let me play as an Orlesian Noble.

I love this idea. I hope DA4 will be in Tevinter, but this idea of different origins in Tevinter is even better. As some of you said before, i also think it would be interesting to play as elf slave, it could have great roleplay options. And i wish Dorian has some interesting role too.

Interesting though I would say you have to go Vashoth for the Kossith/Qunari player since else you have to remove mage options, plus only really benhassreth seem to be allowed enough independence.  Also with born Vashoth like in DAI it opens ability for your character to chose whether they believe in the Qun or creating the independent vashoth culture.

Also I'd say take the elf mundane into, instead of being a current slave you are a recently freed slave who earned their freedom by surviving long enough as a vetran despite being used as fodder in the imperial army.

Totally agree with the elf origin.

We got Dalish covered. Bring back the city elf and have them enjoy their day in the sun. B)

To expand upon this for people who don't want to be Tevinter the game could still be set in Tevinter but with a PC who has recently found themselves on the wrong side of the slave trade
