The first time we see her, she's just a growing green figure. Looking at her, my first thought wasn't "That's obviously the Divine". She could just as easily have been a Desire Demon of some kind.

That was actually my first though. But it was more that since the Divine supposedly died, and obviously Bioware isn't about to confirm Andrastate is a divine figure, the law of conservation of characters tells us it's the divine.

Sorry, but you don't get to directly control what others think about you.    Herald of Andraste is what everyone thinks you are, not about what you claim yourself to be.

Depending on your choice in the game, you could quite accurately claim later on that you are the Herald of Mythal.   However, you would still be a drop of elven belief in a sea of Andrastianism.   People are going to have their own beliefs about you no matter what you say or do.

That is fine, just give me the option to walk away if the inner circle keep calling me by that title, they insist on worshpping a false tyrant god? Cory is welcome to them, and thedas burns. Show my faith the respect yours gains by genocide, then I will help.

Yes you can tell everyone you are NOT the Herald but, it makes no difference, people won't stop calling you the Herald so, it doesn't matter what you say.

is this actually true in game ? i notice in skyhold, they call me inquisitor while in haven they used to call me herald, and i always denied being such.

I started my Dalish playthrough last night, and thought it would have been neat to be able to express that it was Mythal, not Andraste, who saved me. I was able to state faith in the Creators in my conversation with Cassandra, so that was good.

My Lavellan is devout so I hope to be able to play her as a faithful person, as I did my Andrastian. Of course that won't change how others perceive her, but that isn't what this thread is about.

Since the Breach threatens everyone, your Dalish elf would be a moron. Think of it as the writers not letting you play a complete tool, and be grateful.

*cough*

On a more serious note, I think part of the point laced through the entire game is that no matter what you believe, the people and histories will have their own view. Through the game you can refute your holy status, but eventually it does come down to accepting that people will see what they want to. Playing as an elf, I was given opportunity to tell people what I believed - or didn't - and did not feel entirely slighted by that. It's certainly a lot better than we've gotten in the other games, but it does leave us questioning just what makes a god and how divinity is handled. I found it interesting, even if my elf rolled her eyes a few times.

Oh man, I was totally prepped with a LoB youtube, but that one is 100x better. AWESOME! Best laugh I've had in ages!!!

I was thinking about LoB the whole time, and I played an Agnostic Qunari merc....

I agree. My first play through was as a Dalish elf and I certainly felt like the game gave me ample opportunities to assert her not being Adrastrian. As Mother Giselle says, it's not about your character's faith, but the faith of those who follow them.
