I would like my warden to return as far as I'm concerned his story is not finished, he and his Morrigan still have a role to play in Thedas . The wardens have divided the Anderfel wardens have gone quiet maybe the next game could feature his search for a cure for the calling and redeeming honour to the order, plus Ogren and Nathaniel are with him, they were also not at Adamant.

They'd mess it up anyway so it's best to avoid using him/her. Bioware should have just ended the Wardens story in DAO but they just had to start the whole "S/He disappeared" thing in DA2.

Sorry.. I'm doing this from my phone and I clearly don't know what I'm doing. Didn't mean to quote someone so many times...

Which they then took back in DA:I by saying the Hero didn't REALLY disappear, the Hero is just way out west. LOL!

I disagree. I never played DA2 and I can assure you that, from my perspective, Hawke came off as just about the dullest character in DAI. He was designed to be a protagonist, not an interesting supporting character in his own right.

And when it came down to my having to sacrifice either Hawke or Stroud, I sat there wondering why I was meant to care about either of them.

From my perspective, that was a huge misstep in the narrative. A big, weighty, dramatic moment that (unfortunately for new players) relied on the player to have played DA2 previously in order to possibly care, which I never did.

I think it's better to leave old protagonists behind and not alienate newcomers to the franchise.

... But... if that had been the Hero... then the choice would have been more impactful. Right?

Also, I have not played DA2 yet, but I plan on a female rogue Hawke. I made one in DA:I and yet I still had some degree of respect for the character.

I personally just think that Hawke is supposed to be a female so that players better sympathize with her. A male Hawke? Like you said, who cares?

Just so everyone is clear, the Warden in DAO was voiced... Just not in conversation. In fact, when you create your Warden in the beginning of the game, you even have to choose their voice. If I'm not mistaken, I believe there was 5 different voice choices. Obviously with a fully voiced game like DA2 and DAI you could never have that many, but Inquisition did give us 2 options. A new game featuring the Hero of Fereldan could do the same...

Wrong.

If you've played DAO but not DA2 (which is my case) then it's the choice between the Hero and someone you don't care about. That's not a particularly weighty choice.

And I'm curious as to what genuine newcomers must have made of it. "Oh no. I must sacrifice one of two characters who I've known for all of 15 minutes, who aren't even one of my regular companions, and who have given me little reason to care if I never see them again."

How about taking a side quest to the old faithful hero and follow leliana's leads to help him find a cure some parts are you as the hero and others as the inquisitor.  Likely Avernus has concocted a cure if he still lives and that might take a lot of travel for materials.  There is also the leader of the mages that could lead.

It added more options. In no way did that remove your ability to be just as good with your weapon of choice.

Do you believe we will get to play a warden rogue with a bard\ranger spec that uses two axes as weapons if some DA:I expanion lets us play as the Warden?

Now we've moved the goalposts. And yes it did remove your free choice. I can't remember the exact name but in BG1 weapons like longswords and two-handed swords or lots of blunt weapons all fell under the same skill. Come BG2 this was separated out. You couldn't have the same proficiency as in BG1 even if you could equip the same weapon.

The whole point of this is that your standard is ridiculous. Slapping on dual-wield axes isn't somehow central to the Warden. You might as well complain that they broke your character just by removing the comically oversized pauldrons.

It'd be really cool to see our Wardens again, no doubt about it. But I think there are possibly too many issues tied in with the Warden's arc to be able to easily return to that character. For one thing, since they opted to use the Keep to stream line importing world states, that's a lot of little nuances that won't be seen/referenced (unless they were to add a significant amount to the Keep). Additionally, voices actors. I personally wouldn't have any major issues with my Warden suddenly having a voice, but I'm willing to bet there's a fair portion of the fan base that would be most displeased to hear their characters speaking.

Personally, I felt like the Warden's story was really self contained in Origins and Awakening. I'd love to hear from them again, but I'm not sure they really need another story of that caliber (and if the choice was between continuing the Warden's story and continuing the Inquisitor's.....hmm. The Warden is awesome, yet I really want to get a better sense of closure for my Quizzie.)

Oh well! Guess I'd be fairly pleased either way XD

(I definitely hope we don't see a new protagonist though. I'm tired of reintroducing myself to all the characters and whatnot :P)

I've said it before and I'll said it again: Do fanfiction.  That way you don't have to worry about BW screwing up your headcanoned portrayal of your Warden and you can continue their story.

As I anticipated the release of Inquisition, I was really hoping that BioWare would surprise everyone and allow them to play as their Warden character form Origins...

Obviously that was not the case and we are forced to play as yet another new character, which is fine, but what I really want is to play a game as epic as Inquisition with the Hero of Fereldan (and continue my romance with Leliana)... Is that too much to ask?

Both DA2 and DAI are full of references to Origin's hero, yet no appearance since the Awakening DLC. I can't be the only one out there the LOVED their Warden character and is desperate to continue their adventures. If I knew I would have to play as new protagonist in every subsequent game afterwards, I would have sacrificed my Warden to save Fereldan rather than making a baby with Morrigan.

BioWare, hear me... I want to play as my Warden again!

I can't be the only one that feels this way...

Our Warden's are off exploring in DAO......heh heh, and got lost.

Many would of liked to see a DAO2 instead of DA2 and DAI.....but Bioware thought it was still better to get rid of our main character for each game and start with a new one.

Easier and simpler to do I guess.

Instead of the more tactical way with PC, Bioware went the simplifed action way with the consoles.

my warden and hawke died when I deleted all my stuff from my ps3 and sold it on ebay.  In all seriousness though I do not think we will ever see our grey wardens or even hawke in another game again.

I guess I must be a real nerd, but I've always cared more about the storyline and characters in the DA games than the tactical combat...

The Warden had such a great storyline and with some improvements to the Keep, they could easily be integrated into a new game.

Also... is it just me or have the Wardens changed over the course of 3 games? In DAO the Wardens were so regal, admired and selfless... Since then it seem like they're just a band of jackasses that get possessed and mess things up.

I think my Warden needs to be brought back into a game to return the Grey Wardens back to respectability.

That goes along with what has always been mentioned in Dragon Age right the way through - that the Warden's sacrifices are all but forgotten in between Blights. It shows how inherently selfish the entire Dragon Age world and its people truly are and i think Bioware has actually captured this well in the games. What happened with the Wardens in DA:I being corrupted I am sure didn't help at all have people hold a very high opinion of them but I totally agree! The warden could help to turn that around and the Grey Wardens could be an instrimental part of the Inquisition as Ally's I do believe they have their own troubles right now though with the Calling, I wonder do they still hear it now that Cory is dead?

You're not, but Bioware has been quite adamant that each DA game has a new protagonist, which I much prefer. The alternative is the horrid character-breaking, character-assassination module that was DA:A.

What are you talking about? DAO:A was good, nothing character breaking about it.

Been awhile since I played it, but didn't Awakening simply hand-wave away the Warden's death (assuming he/she died) if you imported your game?

Wasn't that a bug or something?  (idk, haven't imported a US Warden into Awakening)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you had to create a new "Warden Commander" for Awakening if you sacrificed your Warden in Origins...

You also had the option of creating a new Warden if you didn't want to continue in the DLC as the Hero of Fereldan.

Did anyone actually sacrifice their Warden in Origins and still get to upload them to Awakening?
