indie games make much more revenue on average because of the lack of breakage.

Look, I love indie games, but we *clearly* have not played the same indie games if you think they are generally any less buggy than AAA titles.

I love indie games as much as the next person, but something like Divinity: Original Sin(well above the average for indie titles) didn't pull in anywhere near as much revenue as a game like Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I love indie games, but I just wanted to make a post that looked similar to those above.

the point is that maybe when you look at total sales dai made more, but in terms of losses how much did they really make.  That is what breakage is, its unintentional unstoppable **** that is going to happen and cost you money, no matter how much you try to avoid it.  Plus since you mention original sin, it has over 8000 reviews on steam and are mostly are very good reviews, as with inquisition, well you look at the numbers, they don't lie.  Im not the only one pissed here.  thousands of people are up hauled with inquisition which I don't understand because although its not a solid game, it has really great aspects that make the game worth the price.  Its just that when you put the game together in 1 package its just not holding its weight.  Certain things were done very well, but than on the other side of the spectrum its a complete 180.  I researched this to make sure it was not just me.  Almost all the reviews from players that were negative had the same issues as I am having, except they say the game totally sucks.  Im just saying it sucks after you get to around level 18.

so in inquisitions first week it sold 1.15 million copies, original sin sold 500,000 the first 2 weeks.  now original sin is 20 dollars cheaper and has way more positive gamer reviews than inquisition whats more.  The gross profit for original sin was probably close to if not exceeding inquisition due to the amount of expense put into inquisition.  Once again with all that money and all that time 4 years inquisition was rushed out and its sales numbers show for it.  It was overhyped and I don't know where they get game of the year, it was like when gta4 had 10 out of 10 on every site "like they paid for the reviews". oh yea that doesn't happen.  anyway I actually just bought original sin 2 days ago, and so far I like it.  Its entertaining and reminds me of my Icewind dale Baldur's gate days.

look Inquisition is good but its far from great, maybe they will improve on it, or maybe they will just toss it aside.  GOD its such a shame if they had just reorganized the game, and why multiplayer.  Witcher 3 has been pushed back a few times now why because quality develpoers understand the difference between quality, and lets just push it out the door to generate revenue.

just to clear the air. Metacritic has user reviews for DAI as 5.8 from 2873 reviews. and original sin has an 8.7 from 1872 reviews.

Numbers don't lie just because a company sells more or throws more money into a game doesn't mean anything.

All that proves is that OS is likely a good game, and definitely NOT a polarizing game (or an excessively popular one, if we're being honest).

I'd confidently lay a dollar on that DAI metascore being due to the dozens (maybe hundreds) of kneejerk 1s posted within hours of release (with a liberal peppering of kneejerk 10s).

Metacritic is trash a lot of the time, especially where popular, highly anticipated games are concerned.

There are some issues with your stats:

1. Original Sin's 500k was announced in September while the game launched in June. That's a tad more than 2 weeks =P

2. Larian released their numbers, which means this includes digital sales. EA never released Inquisition's numbers so 1.15 million is retail only. Digital is a huge deal on PC.

3. Massive "Citation Needed" for your claims about how much Inquisition cost to make. Saying probably doesn't make it true or even likely.

4. Metacritic is a joke and shouldn't be used to judge public reception of a game. 200+ GOTY awards including a lot of consumer's choice votes says that it was a fairly well received game.

5. The MP mode you seem to hate so much has micro-transactions. This means pure bonus profit for EA.

The idea with any sequel is that they'll improve on the original idea, so I hope that they do that in the next Dragon Age as well. It's just that everybody has a different idea as to what improvement is.

You want more end game content that I couldn't care less about, while I want more dialogue and choice in the various zone side quests.

snip

Are we seriously back to bickering over copies sold and reviews posted on metacritic? Has it come full circle already?

DAI was a huge success because EA says they consider it a huge success. If you're expecting anyone at Bioware or EA to make decisions on the premise that it's not a success, you're dreaming.

I think its a little strange how I not only complain about things I don't like about the game, but also complement what I think they did well as where you cyonan only defend the game.  And micro transactions, this seems to be a popular idea for the last 7 or 8 years.  I see the need for it in free games, but for games that are purchased it sucks.  Its one of the most disrespecting things A game company can do to its player base.  At least with guild wars 2 the only thing you spend money on are non essential items and they come out with new content on average twice a month.  Come on you cannot really be defending that as a way they make their money.  You either work for them or are a fanboy.  If you like the game that's great I think its good for about 30 hours after that it starts to decline, the content was well meant but doesn't live up to a game of the year title.  Apparently an overwhelming majority feel the same way I do, so guess what that game and company you so love wont listen to one word about what you want, because the majority is saying the game sucks. So all that extra questing and dialogue its going bye bye, why because everyone is saying it drowns the game out.  I personally think they reached as far as they should go with side quests and dialogue.  I thought it hit the sweet spot, but it doesn't matter cause da4 or the next dlc wait actually the dlc that they are going to sell that might actually make inquisition a complete game is not going to be for you, its going to be damage control.  anyway Im done posting on this topic I wont let those scum bags get any more of my money.
