Meanwhile, that same guy you quoted (me), has already stated he doesn't even own a console but a 3DS.

So your plan is for Bio to plan to lose a lot of money? You've made at least 50% of the revenue go away by cutting out the console versions. You could always hope that the game is a super-gigantic blockbuster and earns out anyway, but as the saying goes, hope is not a plan.
50%? More like 80%. Most of the revenue is from consoles. Though PC revenue would be higher if people didn't pirate so much.

Or, more likely, it would be roughly the same and there would just be fewer pirates.
A pirated copy is not a lost sale.
My point is that ports to pc get the short end of the stick, and Im sick of games that are rushed or incomplete, I asked a question to see what responses I would get, I never said I wanted it to happen that way. There are very few companies putting together these great games that end up being great on release, in fact indie games have far surpassed many mainstream developer games. a lot of indie games are simple and yet they are so much fun look at kerbal space program, 7 days to die, even child of light although made by ubisoft was an indie game from a separate division and I had a blast playing that. I don't think anyone should stop making console games but please put more effort into the pc game world.
hell I could put 60 to 70 hours of Icewind Dale and be completely satisfied with the ending. Last year was the first time I beat Bladurs Gate, and I bought it when it first came out, but didn't play it a lot at the time. when the enhanced edition was released it was great. Now that's a game 15 years old and it still attracts many people to it because it was made to be good not just to make money. That is why many third party companies are buying the rights to games from the late 90's 2000's and remakeing them, because they were great games, not just a game good for the year it was made, but a game good for life.

Console revenue is not anywhere near 5 times higher than PC, especially considering the majority of PC sales of Inquisition would be on Origin where EA gets 100% of the money, as opposed to having a retail store taking their cut.
As a pure PC user I have to say NO. This type of AAA game needs unit sales to generate income and PC unit sales alone means that if this was a PC only game they budget for the game would have been significantly smaller and we would have got an inferior game. This idea that the PC gaming market is larger then the console market is misleading to the point of leading people to false conclusions. It includes MMO revenue and of that WoW is king. WoW is a statistical outlier. It is one data point that is an anomaly. And small monthly subscription income is significantly different from large point of sale revenue.
In terms of unit sales Console consistently beat out PC unit sales. Given that DA:I is a product that requires unit sales to generate income you want to cast a WIDE net and gather as many people are possible to get the most unit sales.
I think a better question is "Could DA:I have been a better game if is stuck with CURRENT gen technology?" Making the game work on Xbox 360 and PS3 was a mistake in my opinion.
Or, more likely, it would be roughly the same and there would just be fewer pirates.
A pirated copy is not a lost sale.
The last sentence above is true but very misleading, while there is no 1 to 1 correlation with pirated copy equalling a sale. Its utterly false to suggest if it was impossible to pirate sales wouldn't increase. The music industry saw a sharp and dramatic loss of revenue when peer2peer file swapping became available, definitively demonstrating the fact that piracy does impact sales. Yet the amount of piracy was greater than the loss of revenue, which shows that if something is free you are more likely to get it then if you have to pay for it. So not every pirated song equalled a loss sale but piracy still have a dramatic decrease in sale for the industry.
The interesting thing is that as consoles get more powerful and have larger hard drives piracy has been on the rise for console games, so its a bit of a misnomer to blame all piracy on PC games that some console users do. A simple google search of torrents for Playstation or xbox games shows that they are more common then they use to be.

Many of the games that were multi-console and came out last year (and some this year so far) were cross-generation, and it really does make sense from a business standpoint. The Xbone and PS4 both cost an arm and a leg to a lot of people, and as yet can't afford them. Just in my circle of friends, I don't know a single one who owns one of the newer gen consoles... but plenty of them have PS3s and 360's. I just finished building my gaming PC, and while I love it, I love my gaming consoles too.
Another example: when Alien Isolation came out, my then-computer wasn't even at minimal specs (at least for graphics), so the PC version was out. I couldn't afford a PS4 or Xbone, so those were out. But I DID have a PS3, so... And I know a lot of people who were in the same position as me. These consoles are quite expensive, especially to the average joe in this country. Makes sense to have the older consoles included, at least for a little while before the new gen starts to take off more.
I think if they focused just on pc and not on all platforms much more could have been done. What do I know Im just a PC gamer that gets stuck with crappy ports on average 5 times a year.
Nice of you to cut out an awful lot of loyal Dragon Age fans just because you have the money for a high end PC what about the rest of us who have purchased all of the previous games on console, should we suddenly be no longer able to play because of you PC elitists? I saw you tell others to buy a PC well here's a thought you buy a console, see works both ways.
By the way I have very specific reasons for not being able to play on a PC anymore and I doubt I am the only one. So erm yeah thank you for being selfish and suggesting the rest of us shouldn't be able to play.
once again it was a question not a suggestion. I like to hear what people have to say. the lack of end game content in a game equipped with such a crafting system and combat system doesn't make sense to me. so I stir the pot to see how people feel, don't take it personal.
Or, more likely, it would be roughly the same and there would just be fewer pirates.

True, but it doesn't guarantee a buy either. Why pay 60 bucks for a title when it can be pirated right?

Yeah we already got the shaft on TOR, my laptop was able to play it only until they did and update on the settings and then it was out the window. Also I don't have a desk or anything to set up a PC, just a tv so it's pretty easy to decide. Plus for awhile you couldn't get console games on the PC, but since they are getting so close now it doesn't matter and there are more PC versions. Honestly though I hate the argument of "Just buy a PC. Or just buy X&Y console". Everyone has their own preference. I enjoy playing games on my tv in my living room. Also I know that the PC versions will always look better, but generally the console versions look just fine to me when they come out. Since they are generally locked at 30 fps and certain settings I don't get weird fame drops or other strange issues.

End game content? It's an RPG, the point is to make a new character&class and make different decisions. This isn't an MMO.

If that was true why start telling people and I quote:
But you could buy a pc and the game would be even better like the old days. and umm yea it would be better if you bought a PC.
Why should I and many other people by a new PC just so we can continue to play a game franchise that we enjoy.
If you truly want to know what people think don't start telling them what they can do if their opinion doesn't agree with yours.

Pretty much. It's not as if buggy/incomplete software is a new thing. This is not a PC thing, or PV vs Consoles thing though. It's a global sin of the video game industry since the internet has become widely available.
Many games are rushed out the door before their time on all platforms and very often one platform or the other inherit a garbage UI because of badly budgeted time constraints. Too many games distributors think that they can get away with it and have us download patches later on at our expense.
I can't believe the op hasn't edited the thread title yet. ![]()

You mean the game that actually came out on the same date for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, was designed as a spiritual successor to a classic PC only RPG, and was heavily criticized for being a bad console port?
That's the game you're calling a "console game"?
I think you might be thinking of Mass Effect =P
No but I'm not surprised you didn't know that. I was referring to the DA SERIES.

I must have gotten confused by you being wrong about how DA:O came out on the Xbox 360 before PC.
Hate to say it (since I play on PC and don't own a console), but if they were going to cut a platform, it would be PC and not consoles. They sell more games for consoles than they sell for PC, so it makes sense to follow the money.
Of course, I wish that the game was developed for the PC and ported to consoles and not the other way around... but I'm cynical/practical enough to realize that isn't ever going to happen again.

Oh god, ow, I think I strained my skull rolling my eyes so hard
Complaining because a multi-million dollar product wasn't made 100% for you is the kind of arrogant, antisocial attitude that turns people off on PC gaming and gamers. Being self-absorbed and rude isn't "stirring the pot."
The answer when combined with reality is unfortunately No.
Is the PC a much more powerful and flexible platform which game developers could do MUCH more with if solely focused on the PC? Yes.
However, the final product would be marketed to a much smaller audience, and would tally a much smaller return. Thus, the budget for the games design would also be much smaller.
Its a balancing act in the end. You have to learn to accept the "features" that we typically associate with console porting when it comes to big budget games. I quite imagine Witcher 3 will end up receiving a LOT of hate from the PC community as well. Witcher 2 was a PC only game when developed and then ported to consoles later on. Witcher 3 is going to developed as a cross-platform game, and we are likely going to see a lot of the same short-cutting, simplifying, "dumbing down", that comes with any cross-platform release.
the differences between console games and PC games are UI and controls
In Inquisition the font is designed for PC gamers sitting right in front of their monitors -console gamers sitting across the rooms on their sofas have difficulty reading the text.
on consoles the button for jump is the same one as for interaction (talk/open door/loot corpse/etc) which causes many problems
the war table seems designed for mouse usage rather than console gamers.
My conclusion is the console version could have been better if Bioware had not been so focussed on developing the game for PCs
though of course the other man's grass is always greener
pc's need constant upgrading to keep up with new games that's why I moved to consoles. I looked at a top line gaming pc a few months ago it was $1800 so I got me an xbox one and a ps4 instead and still had cash left over. pcs are the more expensive and can be a pain getting the right hardware. Play what you want I prefer consoles for games and viewing my movies. Its much easier and cheaper.
My PC handles DA:I on Medium-High, and it's close to 4 years old now. I bought a new GPU a year ago, but it's a mid-range, 150$ one. Claiming that you need to upgrade your PC every two years is lunacy, unless one really wants to constantly be on the cutting edge which is a small minority.
And no way a good PC costs you 1800$ unless you get it pre-built which is a terrible idea.
