Just finished NWN with all its expansions and i want to try out cleric in NWN2. I want to play a cleric that is good in close combat, but also a buffer for the party.

i found this http://nwn2db.com/build/?5083#commentsbuild wihich seems very cool. Thoughts? Comments? On how to play it, what to do and what not to do. PS - the link starts in the comments section of the build, scroll up :)

That build is OK, but I personally wouldn't bother with so much fighter, and probably no more than a level or two (if at all) before maxing my spell slots (at cleric 10/SL 10).

The Spell Penetration line is not needed (if you really need to cast an offensive spell on an enemy with spell resistance, you can cast Assay Resistance first), although the build takes all the main feats, so I guess there's room to spare. I'd take Practice Spellcaster much earlier, though, and maybe change War domain for Water or something else, but then you'll have to take Weapon Focus manually.

Playstyle mainly involves buffing up and then proceed to hack stuff, and healing as necessary. Once you're a stormlord, remember to re-apply the spear buff every 2 minutes. You can cast some offensive spells, but they're all pretty meh. Some domains (fire, air, water...) add some more, if you're interested in mixing spells with melee. Well... You don't gain much from not taking a 3rd (or 4th) class in the long run, so a few little extras are nice to have from a level 30 perspective, even though not necessary at all. I wouldn't spend more than a level or two on a 3rd/4th class before epic, anyway.

You don't need to be a fighter in order to take improved critical, if that's what you mean. Fighter's extra feats give you more room to take it, though. It's not a particularly strong feat for a stormlord, but it's nice to have if you have all the basics covered and nothing better to take.

Will i get a debuff on xp with 3 active classes?

Depends on the race, the classes, and how many levels you take on each. Stormlord is a prestige class, and those are ignored as far as XP penalties go. If your other classes are only fighter and cleric, you won't have to worry about XP penalties if you're a human, half-elf, dwarf, genasi or grey orc.

Thank you for your insight :) I usually play something easy, like fighter or rogue and just build on it without going that deep into it. Wanted to try something else for a change.

I had a great time playing this build:

C11/SL10/RDD8/B1

Powerful build and you can persist great stuff.

Remember, this build is evil (Stormlord). As my kid watched me play, the kid kept saying, "DAD, don't have him do that!"

Stormlord has no alignment restrictions. Or deity, for that matter, even though it should be Talos.

I wouldn't recommend that sort of build; too much of a late bloomer for my taste, and overkill. Even with those classes, there are better ways to do it. If you want something simple and play like a cleric for the entire game, stay away from RDD.

Agreed, but you're thinking like a builder. :) RP wise Stormlords are a great way to play evil. As many times as I've completed the OC I've only jumped on full evil once, and this was a great way to go. I just suggest if SL is wanted, go all of the way. Don't grab it to be cheesy and still finish with the good ending.

It really begins to hit its stride when entering MotB, when the great story begins.

I'm just clarifying. Your original post could be interpreted as "you're restricted to evil alignments in order to play this class". You could even be chaotic neutral and still true to the lore.

I guess I should mention that the same thing goes for domains. None of the domains those builds take are canon for Talos. Technically, a "true" stormlord should take different ones.

I played my version of that (which was posted earlier, so not really sure how Zhumtor got so many votes, they seem to have come later - I'm sure that they weren't there when I posted my comments) through the OC/MotB. It works well - too well almost...

Played around with a build today and found something that works so far. But is there no way to extend the shock attack you get from Stormlord? Have to rebuff alot.

Not normally at least, which I agree makes stormlords a bit of a pain in the ass to play. There's probably a file somewhere that you can edit to change how long it lasts.

Yeah, but atleast other buffs lasts longer after awhile. Gotten some of the buffs up to a few minutes + haste lasts longer etc. So mostly just rebuffing the shock weapon at this point. Its fun, i just wish i knew where to get some powerful spears. Have never used it as a weapon, like ever.

i decimated Lorne in the duel after the trial. The crits with shocking/sonic weapons are just ridiclous.
