I imported a Mass Effect 1 character into the new game and started at level 5. Seven and a half hours into the game while playing Insanity difficulty, I realized that I was level 7. I thought that maybe my experience gain was curved since the level cap is 30. Then, while in the slums of the Omega station, after fighting waves of enemies, I discovered that I was not gaining any experience at all from killing enemies. This is unacceptable. I've put up with glitches for year now in Bioware (and notable Bethesda) games but this was something I simply cannot abide. No Experience. If this is not a glitch, it's the dumbest game design mechanic for an RPG I have ever seen. Is this common...and how can it be fixed if at all? If there is no way to salvage this character that I spent 80 hours in Mass Effect 1 on, I refuse to continue this game. Please help!

As far as i know, killing enemies dont give any xp at all, its designed that way.

You gain a set amount of experience after each mission/side mission.

Sure. There have been RPGs that didn't give experience for combat. Bioware event did one once before.
