I have been a fan of bioware's since mass effect 2, and got into mass effect 1 after hearing praise for the second iteration and played the whole thing to get the full experience. I got into Dragon Age in a similar way by hearing about a promotional dlc deal for the blood dragon armor for mass effect 2. But on these forums, there is a metric ton of feedback all saying the same thing.
New games suck, old ones or games that emulate the old games are better. Go play KOTOR or Witcher or any other game that emulates "old school rpg elements".
I did. My assesses of the experience was simple. These old games have gameplay that really, really, really, does not want to be played. Or rather, doesn't want to be played in any way that it doesn't approve of. Everything is heavy and clunky in movement, the cameras aim at you rather than enemies as just the right times to get you crited into an early grave, actual combat doesn't seem to respond to your input but works on its own timer that you must accommodate. It's infuriating.
So how do you deal with it, besides the overplayed meme of "Get Gud", cause there's getting good. And there's getting good while appeasing something that actively wants to punish you for the attempt to get good.
