He gives you a defender something schematic, which is tier 1, when you ask him what else he can do.

No free tier 2 schematics from him, though. Those come from Inquisition perks, and the value of that perk is depends on how rotten your RNG luck is.

Make sure you're talking to the right guy.  There is a merchant inside the main gates who won't give you anything, no matter how much you sweet-talk him, cause he's the wrong guy.  And Defender Mail is Tier 1 as Gileadan said.  Only a warrior would see that though, a mage or rogue would get something else.  If you explore all the conversation options with the right person you can't go wrong.  Since this is a non-spoiler forum, can't help any more than that.

He gives you class-dependant T1 armour when you ask about crafting.

You start with T1 weapon as dependant on what you chose at startup (greatsword/bow/etc).

You can get T1 arms/legs (depending) from the crate he stands next to, intended to introduce you to the upgrade system.

At no point does Harritt directly provide you with T2 or T3 schematics of other materials of any kind.

I find most of my schematics exploring.

Most schematics are dropped randomly..... which sucks but there you go

Asking for specific game-play help here is like asking a cardiologist for advice about your migraines at a cocktail party.

They may know, but it's not why they're here and they certainly aren't going to dispense professional advice outside their area of expertise in such a haphazard manner.  Try one of the forums dedicated to such issues, like: New Player Guide & Quest Help.
