I think people are just missing the days of their Warden murder-knifing just about anyone they so pleased.
Replacing 'anyone' by 'any man' would be more correct ![]()

I'm neither religious nor conservative, not that it matters. And it's not about naked bodies in general, I have no problem with the sex scenes and whatnot. It's the literal objectification of the female form that I dislike. When I started this thread I knew there would be plenty of people who think that's fantastic and possibly gamergate style responses. Thanks to all those people for proving my point about why the casual objectification of women is a problem.
Casual objectification is just the negative spin of admiring the female form, men and women like to admire the female form and they can do it without treating the women in there lives any less than they do the men, deal with it.

I was replying to someone above me, just didn't bother to add the quote thingy
Figured that... eventually. ![]()
I totally deserve a Cersei eye-roll.

Nah, I wouldn't use it against the person who showed it to me, that would be rude and ungrateful
I have the Cersei gif reserved for people who can't see reason or are just completely out of touch, I bet you know a few I am talking about ![]()

I imagine it's the same deal as the semi-naked guy on real-life top-tier crafted items.
This made me laugh way harder than it should have. Thank you for making my day!
Bingo.
Yin and Yang.
It's something I've always said. I really do think that there is a correlation between people with black and white mindsets like that. Today's radical left are tomorrow's extreme right.
Thanks to everyone who posted their anti-women and anti-feminist mindfarts in this thread. We do indeed need feminism more than ever. How sad that so many of the participants might actually be young men. We have raised yet another generation of men with attitudes like this: just horrible.
Sincere condolences to the OP on this avalanche of illogical, nasty, repetitive and hackneyed responses. The one who said that feminism is a minority cause was funny, at least.
On the topic of naked women being used as decorations for tier three items, it is a surprise that Bioware should have slipped up on that, but this sort of sexism is really ingrained. As this thread demonstrates, there are many men who are actively resistant to changing their shitty behaviour.
lol
Way to take a revered icon and turn into a matter of "sexism." ![]()
Look, I've been vocal in the past about a few things that I have felt were unintentionally sexist and I felt could use improvement. I'm not getting into it now, but I have expressed my viewpoint. That being said, I find it a tad...disturbing (for lack of a better word) that folks are taking what is more or less a non-sexual nude depiction of Jesus/Joan of Arc for Thedas and turning it into a matter of sexism and the "male gaze." It isn't supposed to be and this is one of those cases where I feel like it's being made a much bigger deal than it is.
If you don't like it, don't use it. However, please try to stop jumping to the conclusion of "sexism" when it comes to this. If it was forced; if it was depicted in any sort of lewd or tantalizing manner, then I'd understand. As it is, I think folks really need to let this one go. The older I get, the more I realize one of the biggest ways to keep yourself sane. You pick your battles. This one isn't worth fighting.
Edit: There is also a statue of what appears to be a topless woman holding up a sword in Crossroads. The nude/topless woman religious icon for the Chantry isn't exclusive to weapons. It's more sacred than sexual and I think it represents her sacrifice while she was burned alive for her beliefs and for causing an uprising. The lore is worth reading. ![]()

Edit #2: I checked out the codex entry from the Black Emporium for the nude statue of Andraste that's in there. It wasn't that she was nude so much as the artist put a lot of...intricate details into it. That was the scandal, or at least my takeaway. It was that she was depicted so realistically, rather than more of the spiritual image shown above. ![]()
I don't think it was because she was depicted sans clothing.

Must resist the urge to post Cersei gif...
Seriously, why does it have to be so hard sometimes to tell the difference between a troll, a stupid person and a closed-minded zealot. I honestly can't tell the difference here, all 3 options are equally sad.
Oh the HORROR of the female form... whatever ever shall we do?

You know, if there was naked dude on a staff, I wouldn't use it, but I would't start a topic condemning it's use either.
I am in fact naked under my clothes. I am naked every time I get in the shower. It's nudity, who really cares?

I think its in poor taste but to claim its sexism is...irksome to say the least. Men like women's bodies, women like men's bodies. Some people really like admiring them in different forms and in pieces of art or literature.

I know this a little off-topic, but I went through a month of serious eye strain when looking at a white screen with black text. I also had these tiny little spasms in my right eyelid that wouldn't quit. It would only get worse if I was looking at a computer monitor to the point where I'd have an ache around that eye. It didn't really hurt so much as become very bothersome. I'm getting more sleep again, and I replaced my video card. The latter is connected because I was getting weird screen fracturing while watching even youtube videos, and that seemed to make things worse. Now I'm in the process of fighting with my game to get some mods to work.
All I want is a recolor for the Skyhold jammies that works, damn it. I still push and hope for color options to be put into the game, so I don't have to mod my game just to get something that isn't sodding beige. I also want console gamers to have the same options. Why BioWare went with just that one color I don't understand.
Sorry, personal grumble of mine. I've hated that outfit since I laid eyes on it back last September. It was terrible in Alpha, it was terrible in Beta and it's terrible in the gold version of the game.
Preach. My clothes shouldn't clash with my skin.

Yeah, even in previous concepts (and maybe codexes) of Val Royeaux, she is often portrayed in a sort of stylized nudity (often with a sword sticking out of her bosom to represent Hessarian's regret). Free Marches she's heavily armoured, and in Fereldan she's draped with cloth but with sword and shield as the warrior.
That statue in the original Black Emporium (as apparently there's one somewhere in Fereldan/Orlais) had everything to do with distracting bits and erm... other features. Now you have to touch it to get a sense of it... which is so much worse if you ask me.
And again, not one depiction of Jesus on the cross is clothed. Max clothing is a loincloth, minimum is a stylized... roundness. Man I had to use a lot of ellipses for this.
I think its in poor taste but to claim its sexism is...irksome to say the least. Men like women's bodies, women like men's bodies. Some people really like admiring them in different forms and in pieces of art or literature.
Forget some. 80% of all art in history is field with naked people. Hell, my grandma has a little naked statue in her foyer. This is my grandma, she's a hardcore roman catholic.
If it was hardcore porn depicted on the staff, fine, but nudity is normal, it's natural, it's not an affront to the eyes.
The nude form is not sexism. Sexism is descrimination based on gender. This is a statue, and it's not perverse or insulting women.
Some of your minds would be blown going to a country that didn't stigmatize sex, spend a week in spain sometime. The women aren't shocked or horrified by nudity, it's just nudity. Nudity is actually pretty nice.
And guess what, we are ALL naked folks, more than once a day. I don't want to live in a world that's so repressed that the naked form (of either gender) is considered evil.
All the more ironic that you use a woman to roll eyes at that. ![]()

like Cersei has problems using people as objects

On a side note why didn't Sera say anything on this...sure it would have been awkward but if anyone would make jokes about Andraste's herald 'touching' Andraste's tender bits, it would be her. ![]()
