Btw don't you remember the Gauntlet in DAO? You had to walk naked through the fire as a final test before approaching the Urn, to be cleansed as Andraste was (or how the Guardian said it).

Yeah I remember this has been mentioned and neither the OP nor OP's supporters picked up on it. I don't think they will not either.

Well, I'll oblige then, won't I? I also had to fight hostile twins of my character and companions, all respecced to suit the Gauntlet's needs. Did Andraste have an evil twin? The Gauntlet is a series of tests for pilgrims to prove their worth. It was built in secret by the people closest to Andraste and the Chantry, nor random staff carvers, had knowledge of it. For the Chantry the symbol of the cleansing fire is the flame they keep burning permanently.

The altar description reads "Cast off the trappings of worldly life and cloak yourself in the goodness of spirit. King and slave, lord and beggar, be born anew in the Maker's sight." So walking naked through the flames in the Gauntlet illustrates rebirth. We're naked at birth. Doesn't mean Andraste walked around naked.

I'm also pretty sure Andraste was considered to be without sin, so even if every follower has to get naked, she doesn't.

Well I don't see many almost naked bishops and monks running around, yet the son of God is depicted almost naked  :)

He is only depicted almost naked in his final hours. Other images of him, say during the Last Supper, have him clothed. Christ did not run around naked during most of his life (presumably :P).

Andraste was apparently not burned naked. The Chantry priestess serving as archivist and who determines the authenticity of holy relics mentions how people want to believe they are holding Andraste's actual sandal, which slipped from her foot right before she was consumed by the  fire.

And even if she was burned naked or nearly naked, the figurine on the staff is not depicting being burned alive. Nearly nude Christ is obviously hanging from a cross in pain. The decoration on the staff is just a nude woman. That's it.

I've been trying to be nice about statements like these but I can't help but feel like this isn't a productive OP discussion. Plenty of thoughtful posts have been made only for the OP learie  to boil it down to .. this..

I don't think trying to reason or display logic will yield any further revelation other than a slim possibility that the OP  people like the OP might accept logical discussion, instead of above head posts. People will see what they want to see I suppose, half glass scenario.

learie isn't the OP, but yeah, you can't really have a rational conversation with someone that doesn't want to be rational. I'm not going to take my time writing a well thought out reply when s/he is only going to see what s/he wants to see in it. Especially when i'm going to be talked to in such a condescending manner, outright insulted, or both.

In looking at both of the weapon upgrades carefully, I would describe them as art.......

..... Anyone disagree?

- it's art (NO FURTHER DISCUSSION ALLOWED

Yes, learie. That's precisely what I meant by "Anyone disagree?" I wasn't actually inviting a dissenting opinion.

Continue to read what you want to read.

IN FACT LET'S GET A DOUBLE BATTERING RAM AND CALL THEM ANDRASTE'S SACRED KNOCKERS

Or a single battering ram and call it Maker's indiscriminate c**k.

I hope this thread will get locked soon, not that I was trying to summon the mods or anything. Don't get me wrong, it is a funny thread, but probably too much :D

Well they may as well lock it up and call it a thread. The OP is be long gone and learie is singularly unwilling or unable to engage in meaningful discussion with anyone. Not like anything is being achieved here. Even the train-wreck appeal is losing it's luster.

And the funny part is, literally nobody in this thread would have a problem with it. Nobody would care that they can't use a staff with brass boobies on it, that isn't the reason everyone disagrees with olly. People aren't dismissing the OP's concerns, they just don't think that it's some huge problem that needs addressing, and have given many valid examples and solid reasoning in their counterarguments.

The only reason some would be annoyed at it being removed in a patch is because it would be yet another example of oversensitive types pressuring devs until they get content they don't like removed from videogames.

I will giggle like a maniac if this happens.

But no... I'd say in general, most of us couldn't give two tosses.

Wait.

People would be pretty pissed off if that was changed around and certain other *MORE IMPORTANT* issues were neglected in favour.

Yeah.. nevermind all the people who can't actually play the game. Just change that horrid abomination of a naked woman staff to appease Olly and Learie.

Who wants to make a bet it's the same person, diff usernames?

The game is rated M, you know MATURE so, grow up and make what you will of the staff topper but, recognize that it does not offend everyone and, does not need to be changed. I think an adult should have enough sense to simply not use that staff if it bothers them.

I also fail to see why people get so fired up over trying to make a game politically correct for this world. It is a fantasy RPG/action game in a FANTASY world. What is politically correct here is not the same there, let Thedas be Thedas and Earth be Earth.

You sure do like your strawmen, don't you? Perhaps you could actually read what people wrote, because their arguments are much more nuanced than you are pretending.

Bingo.

Especially when, a majority of the games out involve politically incorrect themes. The most common denominator in this is killing people.. which could be considered one of the most "wrong" and "politically incorrect" concepts out there.

Also, speaking for myself, I play such games to get away from the political crap. If I wanted political crap, I'd watch the news FFS. Gaming is an escape for me -- fantasy worlds, and particularly ones in BW games, give me the option of being an arsehole, doing what I want, not being tied down to "morals" "political correctness" and what somebody else considers "right or wrong", without having to deal with any consequences in the matter.

But no, people have to zero in on trivial non-issues and pick it apart like vultures to a corpse, all because they can't handle something no matter how miniscule the issue actually is. I think a lot of the issue here is, it actually pays to play a victim these days. If you play a victim, all the attention is on you. People feel like they have to pander to your needs and suppress themselves for your benefit.

Now I'm not saying that people shouldn't stand up for themselves. As I've said in earlier posts, pick your battles wisely. Pick ones that are actually worth fighting... for instance, if a big flashing message on your screen says "You're a worthless object that is used only to control and **** and you are not equal to me - Love BioWare" then YES, by all means, fight away.

You sure do like your strawmen, don't you? Perhaps you could actually read what people wrote, because their arguments are much more nuanced than you are pretending.

I think you hit the nail on the head about turning things into an issue.

Instead of just being honest and saying "I don't like this, so I want it removed from my videogames thanks." People try to make it seem like it's a societal problem that needs to be fixed, so it seems like the argument holds more water.

So instead, they will say something like "This shouldn't be in the game because it encourages certain attitudes that can be harmful to this group of people." It also subtly hides that it is a selfish request by making it seem as though they're doing it for the benefit of others.

In this case the OP went with the "casual objectification of women" route.

The misconception these people make is that they think they speak for a large group of people.. it makes them feel all heroic and noble inside.

As my baby girl Sera once said...

"Who's we? I'm fine."
