We need more female opponents then. :)

Can't do that. Ironically it would be the same people fighting for greater representation that would oppose this.

"OMG this game promotes violence against women! Ban it! Ban it NOWWW!!!!!"

I imagine it's the same deal as the semi-naked guy on real-life top-tier crafted items.

Papa Francesco is my neighbour. I always bring him with me in most of the quests and he never disapproves. NEVER!

Well... I just have to...

But I'll give you points for fresh material.

P.S wouldn't advice romancing Cassandra.

By now, man, I recognize you from the Cersei eyeroll GIF...

Not related :)

It is. If it isn't, someone here is hypocritical.

Let's just say that problem behind two is same and equal representation of sexes would help alot in both.

I don't think killing nameless people can be taken away from video games. I mean you can make backstories for every person that comes against your character but I doubt people want that and it would make video games cluttered with unneeded information.

Well... killing people in games is the point a majority of the time, innit?

Unless you're playing Candy Crush.. which I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft staff with a depiction of a naked woman.

Cluttered with unneeded information, indeed. The problem lies with the fact that people think and read too much into things and then get offended. Not saying people have the right to not be offended, but it's more of a case of... how depressed and sad would you be, if something like this bothers you so easily? You'd be a raging loon on suicide watch with the amount of "wrong" or "immoral" sh*t out there that humans love doing so much and yet complain when it happens and act all shocked about it.

All I'm saying is... it's for the own individual's good to choose their "battles" wisely. And sorry, but this ain't it.

Hear, hear! Iron Bull needs to throw on a shirt!

Oh, wait! He's a man. Never mind. Objectifying men is perfectly ok.

Don't worry olly, I got this one covered. Male power trip, not the same thing. So there!

I dunno about anyone else, but I noticed quite a lot of female NPC's among the mooks we have to take out in the entire series, and that's putting aside some of the prominent, named NPC's that sometimes lead them, like Ser Cauthrien, Ser Rylock in Awakening, Jarvia, etc.. And we can't forget the Silent Sisters in DA2. "SAVE ME YOU BASTARDS!"

I think the opponent here is important. Most male opponents we kill aren't defenseless and attack us first. Typical male opponent is bandit or slaver etc. Usually when people have problem with violence against women in video game it's when woman isn't opponent but rather defensiless victim who can't fight back. So adding female opponents shouldn't really be problem at all since that would be just sexist, saying that women can't be evil, bandits or slavers etc.

Agreed. I honestly think BW have done a good job with representing "gender equality" and including female enemies to destroy the stereotype that only men can be the baddies or whatever it is that is argued.

Matriarch Benezia is a classic example.. wait, maybe I shouldn't list her? Because people still debate that Asari don't have a gender or are mono-gendered or something.. but anyway, she's female for me.

Yeah, Bioware actually do a better job of this than pretty much everybody else out there. I was talking about games in general, where it's practically non existent.

I like to block Benezia out of my mind at times, because her final words saturate my mind with enough corn to sweeten every bottle of Coke on earth.

It's clear to me that the OP posted this for her own personal gratification. What's baffling is that there is indeed a plethora of other games out there that are far more gratuitous in their rendering of women. The fact that she has to single out weapon ornamentation to make her case...well.

I mean look at the female cast. Of all of them, only Vivienne is wearing anything remotely revealing. Cassandra is in full body armor, as a warrior should be. Josephine, given her role, at least has an excuse to wear something a little bit more alluring, but she's not. I'm not sure I know how to describe her outfit other than "repurposed hot air balloon." In any case, it's decidedly conservative.

But no, let's not pay attention to any of that because it's detrimental to her case. Clearly, it's equipment decoration that most players aren't even going to notice that's the real offender here.

Edit: Oh, and let's not give Bioware any credit for deviating from the all too common "supermodel" template for their female characters. They look refreshingly average-looking. If I saw Cassandra on the street, I wouldn't give her a second glance (unless she was carrying a sword, I suppose, because why the hell does this woman have a sword?!?)

And while I'm at it, the OP's rather hidebound idea of what ought to be acceptable in fantasy and what shouldn't be is unintentionally hilarious.

"EXCUSE ME, BUT THE NUDITY ON MY SWORD HILT IS MAKING ME FEEL REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE! AND I SHOULDN'T BE MADE TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WHILE I'M CHOPPING PEOPLE'S HEADS OFF!!"

Well said.

While I believe fighting for equality and all of that jazz is admirable, these days its just ridiculous.

Um... hello? How far and beyond do BW have to go to appease the easily offended by SJW-type content?
While they've had a lot of faults lately, that's one thing you can't complain about.

Also, this OP is forgetting something... in this day and age, women are much more accepted in terms of self-responsibility, individual freedom and not being expected to fit any stereotype that has been forced down their necks in the past. Like being possessed and controller by their husbands and used simply as a machine to drop a load in and make a family because hey... that's what is accepted. Woe to anybody who dare defy this.

I, as a female, am thankful that I can drink rum, play games, not have to get married or pop out babies, love another woman and slouch on my chair female Inquisitor style... so this is my issue when it comes to certain SJW topics; stop whinging, it could be a lot worse!!

Anyway, SJW is the modern aged catholic church. If you observe closely, the two are very similar.. they will rip you apart (with fancy words, mind you) if you dare question the goody goody morals that they preach. You're a bigot, you're inflammatory, you have a low IQ, blah blah.. if you present an opinion that differs from their skewered views.

Well... bigots have rights too!! Time to start a movement... I want my rights. I want my equality. SJW are discriminating against me because I'm a bigot.

So what I've learned from this thread:

Dismembering people is A-OK.

A naked woman on the weapon hilt OMG IT'S SEXIST.

I have to admit, for the past few weeks the words sexist and mysogny has lost all meaning for me because I keep hearing it over and over again.

That pretty much sums it up. ;)

It stopped meaning something to me a long time ago.... now all it does is make me:

Carefull, next the round spheres will all become Ben-Wa balls and will thus make some people uncomfortable, not to mention some staves have animals tied to the top of them. Maker forbid any of the male armor actually have codpieces.

I get being considerate of others, going with the majority on things and all but really, this politically correct thing has gone way too far.

It's most likely Andraste because the inquisitor really likes being the herald of Andraste no matter what the player thinks.

The OP is not wrong to say that there's a reason why of the two genders, it happens to be a naked woman and not a naked dude on the shaft of the weapon. Ahem. It's a reflection of more general attitudes in society and I do think the OP is right that there's no need for it in theory.

Pretty sure OP is trolling but in the civilized world of man, the naked female form is the epitome of beauty. For a craftsman to make a design into a tool that is quite literally the most important thing you own is saying " this is a work of art"
