The OP is not wrong to say that there's a reason why of the two genders, it happens to be a naked woman and not a naked dude on the shaft of the weapon. Ahem. It's a reflection of more general attitudes in society and I do think the OP is right that there's no need for it in theory.

Her response to the replies on this thread (which, by her own admission, she expected) has me convinced that this had less to do with her wishing to lodge a serious complaint and more to do with wanting to reaffirm her own gender inequity views. Ergo, I believe she got exactly what she wanted.

I don't know when or how we'll achieve absolute gender equality, but I know it'll never be realized through partisan bickering and/or deliberately casting bait just so you can turn around and say "Aha! I knew you'd say that!"

There will never be an absolute gender equality, nor should it be, it is not possible for many reasons (biology being one of them). Also women only want the good stuff about being a guy, they don't want it all, doesn't really seem fair to me. I don't know about you, but I don't know many women who would advocate for more women working in all those nice well-payed high level corporate jobs and at the same time for more women working in the uranium mines for example :D

On a related note, funny video about gender equality and women in general:

OP seems more like a conservative religious type , or maybe its the horseshoe theory coming into affect

Social justice warriors are conservative religious types.

Having both these items are the best of their type forces you to choose between having the best gear and constantly feeling uncomfortable. Really Bioware, given the inclusiveness and respect I've come to expect from you this was a big disappointment.

How do you include people that want to see that and people who don't want to see the women like that? You can't. Your inclusiveness is just a restriction to someone else.

And here I thought SJWs were ultra-liberal and usually super pro-feminist, pro-socialist, pro-equality etc.

All I mean to say was that it's worth at least pointing it out, issues with the potential packaging and message aside.

Well if it'll make the op feel better, some of the swords look like phallic symbols.

Alright, for the sake of the argument, let's say I agree that naked female sculpting on a sword handle is disrespectful to women who are just trying to enjoy their violent power fantasy...

Oh, never mind. It's just too ridiculous. I can't even hypothetically champion that cause.

However, should a future patch swap out Cassandra's body armor with an iron bikini, I promise I'll be shaking my fist at Bioware in tandem with the OP.

I dunno about anyone else, but I noticed quite a lot of female NPC's among the mooks we have to take out in the entire series, and that's putting aside some of the prominent, named NPC's that sometimes lead them, like Ser Cauthrien, Ser Rylock in Awakening, Jarvia, etc.. And we can't forget the Silent Sisters in DA2. "SAVE ME YOU BASTARDS!"

red templars or venatori cultists sure are lacking females..

*reads stuff about mail bikinis*

*tries very very hard to not say anything*

*thinks about Cass in a mail bikini and shuts up*

On a more serious note, I'd like to pick up on what 1 or 2 insightful poster(s) said previously. The reason why, especially nowadays, we see a far greater representation of women in art and publicity than of men is that women are (still) considered the beautiful sex, which leaves men as... what? the ugly sex? Anyway, we could discuss for hours on end who gets the short stick in that statement. TBH I have some difficulty seeing being considered beautiful as discrimination.

(Now we are discussing craftsmanship and art, not the slew of possible negative consequences in daily life. Even if recent videos that produced outrages were almost all doctored, I have no doubt that a lot of beautiful women are victims of unsolicited male... dunno... "pretend affection" (= don't care about her, just want to bang, be pushy even after being told "no"). It's a sad phenomenon but not one that can be blamed on the concept of beauty, but rather on the concept of being an insensitive, egoistic, pushy ass.)

Most feminists strike me as very conservative.

I don't even really care about this example one way or another, but it's definitely inconsistent.

Parrot time. LOL. Like they say... beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

There are actually people out there who find women repulsive and think men are the attractive sex..

Yeah, you're right. One doesn't necessarily equate to the other...

I'm a lesbian who is perverted and "objectifies" women. Hello, read most of my posts LOL most of it is just BS, sex this, sex that... throw in something controversial that makes people just shake their heads... but on the other hand, if I like or love a woman, I treat her with the utmost respect. I don't act pervy and creepy because there's respect and honour there. I won't lie... I'm always tempted to

I have to disagree with this one. The problem with women getting payed less although their education is higher in general is mostly about because women usually work in social and humanist field when men are more often involved with economy and money. This is in general of cource. Money > Humans, hasn't it been like that quite while in capitalist world.

I doubt many men would be happy in "womens work" meaning work as practical nurses etc. It's both mentally and psychically exchausting and they pay is ridiculous ^^; More men working in "womens field" would be needed though because biological reasons as well, in general it's harder for women to lift sick elderly that can weight over 100kg than to men.

I don't think it is a general attitude in society. I would say that the general rule is that if you produce something, certainly with art, the product will reflect certain aspects of you. Games are mostly made and produced by men so it is to be expected that naked women appear more often than naked men.

If we switch to the book industry, which is dominated by women at all layers, we see that most women are sophisticated beings with complex motivations whereas men are cheating bastards, brainless dicks or walking cocks.

Bet you saw the guys nipples though right? In all seriousness though I'm not sure 300 is the best of films to use in this case. The men are almost naked, totally shredded and oiled up for the majority of the things.

I wouldn't worry about that. This is the BSN, everything you say will offend somebody on here. You could wish people good morning and someone will accuse you of not being sensitive towards people in other time zones haha.

When I started this thread I knew there would be plenty of people who think that's fantastic and possibly gamergate style responses.

Whilst I have no sympathy for gamer gate (hint: if you threaten to kill and rape people, you need to be locked up and nothing you could possibly have to say could possibly redeem yourself), I find it a bit odd that you think that a bunch of loons from the 21st century are somehow responsible for the objectification of women as far back as 25000 BCE.

The problem is not that Bioware objectifies women but tha you are completely and utterly ignorant of art and history. There is lots of nudity in art and religious art so that's why Bioware's designs for fantasy religious art feature similar elements. Imagining that it's a grand conspiracy to tempt males by putting a tiny nude female bust on one of the tiny models you'll be looking at with the 50ft-above-the-ground-camera is a bit silly.
