Plus, it's always one sided. You don't see male forms portrayed in this manner. If it were truly art, the distribution would celebrate both genders.

DAI, imo, is pretty good at distributing these things.

I dunno about prude, but i would find it utterly boring if all of the male cast for instance would show the same level of bare chest Varric does, or  looked more or less similar in build (something i often come across in depiction of females in games), uniformity is a very flat and dull thing.

Haha, there's so much truthiness in this. Luckily male characters aren't expected to represent guys everywhere like people expect female characters to do. We recognise them for what they are, individuals. If people could do the same for women characters it would help to stop a lot of this stuff. Unfortunately there's the "male power trip"  excuse though.

Is depressing that male characters can look & act anyway they want while females usually have to be sexy, act feminine & have no physical imperfections or they'll get accused of looking hideous or manly, i still  at the people who dismissed josephine as being ugly over her having a beauty mark while most people seem to have little problem with IB missing an whole eye

Edit: Blabla removed, don't want to get into a major discussion here.

Also, I just want to point out, as a counter-example, that I absolutely love Jack who is anything but feminine except for one tender, story-wise well prepared, moment (1). And I'm pretty certain I'm not alone in that. I still dislike Cassandra's and Josephine's look. One got butchered from DA2, and I can't forgive BW for that (aging, scarring etc. would have been okay, but the jaw change... unnecessary and jarring) (2), and Josephine is just bland. Sue me.

---

(1) And even there it's debatable if that's 'feminine', or simply well understandable emotional release. I'd go for the second.

(2) The same actually applies to Varric, both his looks (I think it's his forehead, not sure, but it's off compared to DA2) and character/writing have become decidedly worse from DA:KW to DA:I. So, not just a female problem.

Are you talking about stuff in game or in the real world? Also, where do you get the moral imperative ("have to be sexy", "act feminie") from? or what happens?

Ive seen plenty of people just on these forums alone that seemingly believe the "Miranda Lawson look" is the only acceptable appearance for a female character, Id say Josephine was pretty much an conventionally attractive female but it wasn't good enough for some & she got hate for her appearance, i actually remember a literal list being created saying what was & wasn't acceptable when it came to a females looks :?

As for the RL thing, ive found it more difficult as a woman when wearing something with getting pressured to look pretty at all times, going so far as being criticised for not wearing make-up just going to the shop, guys i know can generally wear anything with no remarks whatsoever

I think he was "handsome-fied" actually.

While we are at it, Cullen and Iron Bull, at least, need some serious toning down. They are far better built than the average male and promote unrealistic ideas about masculinity. Get on it!

Don't take us down with you!

People are always going to gripe. People are always going to have standards of beauty that they compare all others to. For every person that I have seen complain about the appearance of the females in DAI, I have seen more defend their looks and express how beautiful they are. Which is a lovely thing. All of the women in DA:I have imperfections, yet I find them attractive. Perhaps that is why. Some people don't find them attractive. What is the issue here? Obviously Bioware didn't follow that supposed rule of thumb where all the women are the standard classical beauty, so what are we upset about? That some people have specific taste when it comes to beauty? Well, welcome to life.

As for the real life thing. As someone who wears make-up on a daily basis, trust me when I tell you that I hear just as much close minded nonsense from women who want to "enlighten" me on how I don't need make-up and how I am pretty enough without it. Or the snide comments about how I must be insecure and wear it for attention. Or how it's important that a man values me for my "true" beauty and not a facade. I mean, wtf. Basically, what I am trying to say is assholes are assholes and you find them everywhere.

Sometimes an apple is an apple and not everything has to be a debate about sexism, standards of beauty and representation.

For Cass, I'm glad they changed, as her face was a boring, non descript oval in DA2, completely forgettable. Leliana only looks older and Varric has had that ridiculous chin pared down. The changes have been good overall.

Blame it on Michelangelo and the other artists of history, and try to move along. Personally disliked the 'Mickey Mouse' adornment, so I skipped using it until others became available.

Personally, I liked the elegance of that staff. The staves are all lackluster,IMO. I hate all the skulls and that wooden nug thing. What a horror show. I could have sworn Vivienne gave me a "******, please" look when I gave her one of those hideous sticks of death. Stop representing death, Bioware! People find it perfectly normal to carry around a decapitated head, but lose **** at the shape of a woman? Good grief.

I also prefer Macomb's staff elegance to that of others. But the MM adornment, and the ones with tied Nugs are the only ones that send me to inventory looking for something else.

And now I'm picturing apples wearing makeup. Why does my brain always seem to fly over the point of people's posts and stick to something odd instead.

As far as the staff goes, it doesn't bother me.  When I saw it, it just reminded me of the Earth mother figures seen in early history.  Kind of like a shaplier Venus of Willendorf. I think it fits with primal magics.

Isn't the naked woman supposed to be Andrastate? I mean thats what I always assumed though I've only seen the naked figure on the staff but prompted out of using it due to the character I was rolling, but I never paid much attention to see if it was on anything else.

Believe it was so for Macomb's staff; have really not paid too much attention on this aspect currently.

What is the name of the staff with the Mickey Mouse look? I am not sure I have seen that one yet. I quite liked the staff you get early on, the one that has that spearhead on the top if it. I have yet to see a strong version of it, sadly.

That's kinda my take on it. I love the shape of the human body regardless of gender and consider it a miracle of form and function. I have no particular objection to nudity in any form... but most of the time, I dislike the way it's perceived. Since the dawn of time, perhaps, it has become an object of titillation, not respect, and that's kinda sad since it is so beautiful.

I don't need nudity in the game. If I want to see the human form in its full perfection, the fine arts provide ample opportunity and life drawing classes satisfy my need for variety. When I see naked bodies in the game, I know it's just to satisfy a demand for MOAR BOOBS and that's kinda frustrating. No, I don't have any objection to boobs. I have a magnificent set myself. It's just that their presence in the game seems more like appeasement than appreciation, and that's frustrating. Plus, it's always one sided. You don't see male forms portrayed in this manner. If it were truly art, the distribution would celebrate both genders.

Is Gaming art or not? Just because one artist drew a naked woman doesn't mean s/he has to draw a naked man to counter. Instead you go look for an Artist who appreciates the male form more. In thedas history/culture and religion its a female prophet , there for a female form is used in statues etc.

Now if there was no reason to put a naked woman's profile on a staff you would have a point in saying we need options for both .lets say Bioware had implemented it , what would have been the reason besides real life dictating equality?

As someone from a celtic background and living in Wales and after going to plenty of exhibitions of celtic art , the celts appreciated and respected the female sex , one of the most rememberable celtic leaders of war was a woman.

If it offends you turn off the game/don't use that item , the point of the staff piece was obviously not for you. And don't bring male gratification , i have better resources at my disposal if i really wanted gratification , its just an easy way to stiffle creativity in my books when people bring it up as a point. Create more games with naked men i really don't mind , a pixel penis...bring me all of it , Gay relationships , non binary gender characters etc , just leave the moral bullshit at the door .

The one with the two snake heads fighting over a gumball? I always found it odd that Solas had the witches staff equipped, yet in the singing cutscene of In your heart shall burn he had Orsino's staff and when seeing Skyhold for the first time, he has the gumball staff. Jesus, where is he storing all these varieties of staves when I have to search all of Thedas for one decent one. That bogart.
