One of the absolute worst endings I've played. Worse than ME 3.

\The thing about taking risks is:  you risk failing.  Badly.  After the last few years, Bioware can't afford to take those kinds of risks anymore.  They've used up their goodwill.  Later, perhaps, once they've proven themselves again.

So has Inquisition done anything to reestablish that goodwill for you?

Obviously, you have not seen the ending of Fable 2... THAT was the worst video game ending... Damn it, Reaver!

DAI could've been worse. But I agree with all of your points. I, too, was wandering around Skyhold waiting for the "true" villain to show up. Sadly, they did not.

Meh, I thought the same things after ME3.  Why bother with the conflict if it's all going to be stood on its head by a ghost child and be rendered meaningless?

No they should take risks. Do you know what formulaic and safe also is? It's boring. Refusing to innovate and advance presents a risk of its own as well, stagnation. You're going to watch the competition roar past you while you trot out the same old tired stories to the core fanbase and the rest of your market moves on.

If execution is a problem maybe its time to think about spending some of that EA cash and hire new talent and shake up your team.

Yeah, you're right, that was definitely one terrible ending. But Fable's nothing but a joke now, and BioWare still has a shot at making masterpieces.

I like the fable games but agreed the ending of 2 was awful with or without Reaver course that game had a lot of stabs in the heart for me (goodbye hero's guild TT.TT)

As for on topic I don't think DAI has a horrible ending just a kind of underwhelming one

I actually wouldn't mind having my Inquisitor die at the end..., you know with the anchor, and how Corypheus gives his last  "If I'm going to die I'm taking you with me" speech before perishing.

Spoiler

I understand Baby Puncher's point and partially agree with it. The fact is that the structure of Inquisition is not that of the classic epic tale.

Dragon Age Inquisition is all about the building of a new world after the old one has abruptly fallen. There's no more Divine, the Chantry is at a loss, the Templars have gone rogue, the Circles of Magi are no more and all mages have become apostates. Sure the Breech in the Sky is the most pressing issue but it's not like the Blight in DAO.

The game is about building a new form of power in a world that has lost its former shape, I see it as a prologue to future events that we will hopefully see in the next DA games :)

Question. Did you watch the post-credits scene?

The OP said that the ending was supposed to be big and that it wasn't. That ending is pretty big. But apparently Call of Duty is more his/her thing.

I really enjoyed the ending.  It fit the plot of the story and themes of series very well.  I'm not sure what some people were expecting, but I was very pleased.  Actually the ending was very similar to Dragon Age Origins, and people actually liked that game.  Haters are gonna hate though.  Enjoy!

The ending was underwhelming.  I had left the Doom of the World quest alone for about a week as I finished up my side quests and I was starting another new save, so when I finally got around to finishing it, after setting aside a few hours thinking it would be another epic quest.  Very disappointed that it was just that one fight.  In Hushed Whispers + Champions of the Just were amongst the best quests in the game, and the final one did not match it.

As for the ending itself...  it was mixed feelings for me.  The post credits scene was alright.  It was slightly better and more fleshed out than the original ME3 ending, the one where Joker steps out of the crashed shuttle with your LI and leaving their fates to your imagination.  I enjoyed the banquet, and I liked talking to all my companions and knowing that all my decisions mattered towards their final approval of you.

It's not the worst ending around but it could have been better.  I had no problems with Corypheus being the main villain as there had already been one major twist (after In Your Heart Shall Burn), to reveal another villain after 100 or so game hours would be comical.

A cliffhanger does not make an ending good.

Every story that is part of the series have cliffhanger ending. They are not bad. You not liking them just means you are impatient not that it's bad. And the center story of dai is finished anyway.

So the issue that I'm seeing is that Bioware failed to live up to the imagination of gamers that have been playing rpgs for (X)amount of years. It's absolutely ridiculous to assume that any game company no matter how strong the development unit is (Bioware,Bethesda,Ubisoft, ect.) can somehow be better than the collective imagination of a generation that grew up playing games with rich narratives. I'm not always happy with the way things end. Do I think that the ending could have been better? Yes possibly, but Im not expecting a game company to make a 45 minute long ending sequence that ties in every tiny detail.

I didn't mind the ending but I hope it is not a trend for the future. Bland send-offs that avoid rocking the boat within the fanbase.

I thought the ending was rather mediocre. Certainly not comparable with the utter trainwreck that was ME3.

It was competently delivered but last battle lack oomph.

I thought the epilogue slides were ok, reflecting choices made throughout the game for who became Divine and consequences was well done.
