One of the absolute worst endings I've played. Worse than ME 3.

I thought ME was worst really- the endings were definitely not ideal and completely strange as well. It certainly didn't feel like they were trying since they had to patch in your team escaping [when really, what ship is going to come down to save them when its WAR against gigantic big ass machines killing things].

DA: I's ending just felt unfinished, like the story isn't over - to me at least.

When they first started releasing trailers, it showed features that DID NOT appear in this game. Such as customizing keeps and fighting to keep them. I imagine this is going to continue onto the next part of DA: I. The trailer also showed the after-math of that after-credit scene. That freaky eyed magic character in the trailer turned out to be uuh...that person. Who I imagine is going to the the antagonist. Or perhaps he's just on the side doing his thing and you have to decide joining or fighting against him while fighting another threat [please be that pfft]

They took the trailer down a long time ago. But I still remember it. It showed much more than what this part of the story told. So I don't think this ending was supposed to bring you closure, just a part of the chapter that has ended.

I really need to try to find that trailer, it was pretty cool. I do recall that some people were thinking the freaky eyed mage guy was Feynriel.

Ridicule David all you like (with my blessing, I will add) but he hit the nail on the head in the OP.

I concede he has his moments. But I felt that 'lack of challenge' in inquisitions ending far less insulting/annoying to me as a player than the way ME3 ended.

ME3's ending was a disgrace to the story that preceded it.  The ending took the central themes of unity and friendship and threw them out the window in a clear attempt at forcing an edgy and "bittersweet" ending on the audience.  On top of that, it compounds the issue by stripping Shepard of agency, glaring plot holes, the mind bogglingly stupid Catalyst speech (and the inability to retort its findings which to be fair is a common criticism leveled at BioWare from everything from Vivienne to the Genophage)

DA:I's ending was just meh, it was underwhelming because Corypheus was poorly balanced and the story line overall was fairly meh.

Yeah I agree with that sentiment, inquisitions ending was meh, there were parts of the game that shined, but it in the end felt merely disjointed as opposed to so overwhelmingly crushingly disappointing followed by a huge slap in the face that ME3's ending was.

If it means anything, it actually isn't.

To be fair to Corypheus I've never really liked any of the villains that Bioware has delivered.

Saren was literally a tool.

Harbinger was boring and kept using the same lines whenever he possessed a Collector.

The Illusive Man was also a total tool.

The Star Child was so stupid that people on these very forums have written Masters worthy essays about it.

Loghain was stupid, Howe was cartoonish and the Archdemon was just a monster.

And finally in DA 2, Meredith was crazy, Orsino was crazy and Anders was crazy.

So, yeah, Corypheus being pathetic was typical in opinion, but at least his extraordinarily ability to fail and whine was so impressive that it made me mildly amused. Honestly through if I do have a regret about the Inquisition ending is that there wasn't a option for Inquisitor and Sera to throw a pie at his face before finally destroying him.

That would have been grand.

I liked Saren, toolishness and all.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who liked Harbinger. His fixation with Shepard spooked me out exactly the way I think it was designed to.

I think that personal fixation against Shepard was one of my major problems with Harbringer and the Reapers.

They were supposed to Cyber-Cthulhu, and when Cyber-Cthulhu starts having human attitudes like having a personal vendetta or feeling that they need to justify their actions they lose that sense of dread that comes from being mysterious and entirely inhuman.

Sun Li is arguably Bioware's best villain, and funny enough he technically wanted the same thing Corypheus wanted; to become a god

I'm just a simple man that believes in the benefits of people being strong and smart instead of weak and stupid.

I would say that's true, except you seem to also reverse views on what is strong and smart and what is weak and stupid.

I like Saren too, until the end where it just went downhill

I think Sovereign filled that archetype well. I imagine it was difficult for them to pull it off a second time without just creating Sovereign 2.0.

Yeah, I guess, but even so, after we learn what the Reapers motives are from the Star-Brat, everything about Sovereign and Harbinger just falls apart.

At least Corypheus being terrible doesn't destroy the narrative of the entire franchise.

I dunno. Some douchy speech about being better than me isn't particularly intimating, especially when it's gameplan is "run and hide, then go get help". Sovereign was just something comically underwhelming for me. I know Sovereign is beloved around here - and especially that speech - but I found it probably one of the worst villain portrayals Bioware's ever done.

People are suckers for a deep, menacing-sounding voice that talks a big game.

I didn't mind Harbinger but he basically doesn't do anything in ME3. He's built up as the face of the Reapers and then, nothing.

Though I'd prefer it if the Reapers didn't talk, and let lesser mortals do their boasting.

I don't love him, personally. I'm a bigger Harbinger fan, because more personal dialogue/monologue is always my preference.

On the other hand, I don't think writing dialogue for a Cthulu level villain can be easy. I think they did a decent job.

IMO it's near impossible to do cthulu status it basically means they are invincible and need a dues ex machina. To beat them

Well, if the whole point of Cthulu is that it's not beatable. You can't really have a Lovecraftian abomination if you have any hope of survival.

ME3's ending was pretty deus ex machina, it only really lacked the winch.

ME3's ending is a huge Gainax Ending.
