I think there's four separate settings. 'Easy". "Normal" and "Hard" and "Nightmare"

 

What setting do you play it on. I play on easy most of the time to get the story going.

I prefer Nightmare, the rest are entirely a cake walk for me, nightmare is what I'd call easy or normal for most games I play but then I'm an older, long time PC gamer.

To answer your question though, yes.

I played Normal, then Normal again, then Nightmare, now playing on casual. Next go I will try Hard just to give each difficulty a try but that will be in a while when I regain soe enthusiasm for playing more completionist. I have 2 completionist playthroughs and I currently can't be asked to focus on getting good gear and such so I'm playing on casual and sticking to --> critical path, companion missions, and some of the bigger side quests only. No assrariums, no shards, no worrying about finding good mats. Just playing primarily for story right now.

I've been playing on normal so far, but I'll eventually bump up the difficulty on a subsequent playthrough.

I only play on higher difficulty levels in games where I actually like the combat. Games where I can take it or leave it, I play on the default, games where I hate the combat I play on casual. So as an example Mass Effect I played on Insanity, DA on casual.

I'd have preferred harder combat, yes.

When a level 12 party can smack around level 16 enemies on Nightmare, something is perhaps a little off.

Makes coming up with builds and the time taken to craft top gear seem pointless.

Seriously, I play a game an easy first to get used to it then normal and then maybe more difficult.
