I never quite got the humans-are-boring thing. In and of themselves, any race should be able to have an interesting story to tell.

Simple. We normally in our every day live are human. Culture concept human have are the same. The only time it differs is if your playing a mage.

If anything, I thought the Dalish origin in DA:O was the most boring of them all, which is ironic since it's the only one that has an element that becomes a much bigger deal later in the series.

I respect your opinion, but the Dalish and City elf origins were the only ones where becoming a Gray Warden actually saved your life. Especially the Dalish, since you were blighted. The best however in my opinion was the dwarf noble origin.

Well... it's certainly better than one race.

Doesn't matter if it doesn't "change the course of the narrative forever and ever" or whatever nonsense people come up with.

Sometimes a dude just wants to play a dwarf.

Simplez.

Which is why in DAO mages had the same origin no matter the race. Which I appreciated, since elves got three separate origins.

I didn't really like the Dalish Origin either, lol.

As for humans in DAI, I don't understand how they are more boring than other Inquisitors since they're all the same character.

Can we please stop with the humans are boring stereotype? Its complete bull. If a person does not have the imagination to roleplay a human than thats their own issue.  I've had no issues playing ANY of the races and and have had fun equally with them.

If it wasn't so trendy and popular to hate on anything human right now, the majority of the people would NOT be doing it.

I find it very boring to play the dominant and privileged race in southern Thedas, and especially Free Marchers who are kind of just there. Maybe I'd feel differently if we could play a Chasind or Avvar. As it is, Trevelyan is dullsville- IMO.

True is pretty much a reskin in regards to most decisions. I wish they would have given us some origins prior to the Haven explosion. I hate that is was simply explained away in via text...all four lines of it.

I wouldn't say it's "trendy". Personally when i'm introduced to a world with various races I like to try them instead of humans. It's not that I hate them, I just feel like it's just not my cup of tea. Playing as a human feeling boring to me, but I respect people who like playing as humans. However, to have the choice of only being a human in a DA game I don't agree with.

I think of it this way...Humans are not mages or rogues or warriors in real life.

I think people better prepare themselves for the realization that they're likely getting alot of feedback for Inquisition.

They likely will NOT devote resources to the races that are not popular.

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect how nice you were about it but there are a great many people in this fandom who bash on anything human because its popular to do so at the moment.

Agreed. Something other than standard privileged human who somehow is the hero. I vote for the human in the next DA game to be from Tavinter.

Actually, this is false. In the Human Noble origin, if the PC doesn't leave with Duncan, s/he is going to die, because Howe's men have overwhelmed Highever Castle and are wiping everyone out indiscriminately.

I wonder if qunari, dwarves and elves would be human, but retained all other aspects of their respective cultures, would it make them boring?

Some of us have the imagination to play humans and we get tired of being bashed for it.

Personally I play my Dalish like a City Elf in Inquisition.    I'm happy they were taken down a few notches and I liked that friendly elf in the exalted plains that said his people NEED TO MOVE ON.

Eh most people think they can be rude since they are faceless entities on the internet. Oddly enough I actually am showing myself in my profile pic using an x-ray shot. I think if anything the Quinari might be dropped. I haven't played a dwarf, but the emphasis seems to be on Humans and Elves currently.

In da:o they made every origin come back and relate to the story, with Jarvia, Bhelen, Howe, the alienage and the circle. Except for the Dalish origin there is a coming home and tying up loose ends each time. This wasn't  the case in Da:i, Dwarves and qunts just felt tacked on, and the elves weren't much better til the end.

The Dalish origin ties in well with Da2 and which hunt I suppose.

The qunari are an interesting case, since you can technically be from any race and be a viddathari.

It is actually more interesting because Duncan in this situation is not a knight in shiny armour running to help the poor you.

Privileged is an overused Tumblr term.

True, but the only times right of conscription was invoked I believe was for the city elf and outcast dwarf. The human could have just left and not become a warden. I do wish we got a low class human though.

Nice profile pic :)

I definitely think qunari and dwarves will be dropped.  Have a feeling it will be Human Commoner, human noble, or City Elf or Dalish elf the next time.  I suspect we will get companions of all races though.

I fundamentally agree with you, but I also believe the notion that humans are 'boring' to play as does have some weight to it, considering how few games give you the option to play as something else these days. It's considered a fresh perspective by many, often to the point of making a decision as to whether to purchase a game.

I believe the "canon" Warden was supposed to Dalish I think. So that makes sense. My DAI Dalish seems a bit lacking in some elven knowledge which is sad, but not every clan might share such information with each other, which other might have been killed off.

This is also untrue. My Cousland flat out refused Duncan, and he pulled out the conscription card. You have no choice. You either go willingly or he is going to drag you to Ostagar. The only other potential recruit that was there was probably dead before you even left.

Who's bashing you? All I see you doing in this thread is dismissing people who have different taste from yours as if they're hipsters. You actually said it was "whining." So, you know. Maybe you ought to take a step back from tumblr (I stay far away from DA tumblrdom myself.)

I've always thought the human origins were overrated. Some people treated Cousland like the default origin. At least Cousland had a tragic origin story, and for mine, I was able to subvert her by making her a thief and express bitterness towards the Wardens. The Inquisitor doesn't have the same range of roleplaying possibilities, and with the Trevelyan background, it's like they picked the blandest, most obvious foundation to give you. I've had 2 human characters now and both of them I ended up hating. Well, hate's a strong word because it implies engagement- I found them impossible to like. So I'm talking about my experience of the game, not yours.
